Amen to that. I can understand the schools concern though. It may be tough to convince them. Especially depending on how serious they take or look at the sport. Some will probably feel that there may be a chance of liability and if they feel they need to question an attorney. Then they will probably question the fact whether or not it is worth it. I'm sure some will take the easy way out and say no, but others might not mind. AS long as they don't think about it too hard...lol But hwith your relationship, it may not be so hard. Just tell him like the others said that you will place a note on the cache page in addition to the disclaimer already there. Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump

This might be good for a micro cache container...
woodsters replied to jollybgood's topic in General geocaching topics
Made me think of those miniature tupperware bowls that you can attach to your keycahin that you could maybe put a couple quarters in or pills. Those who have wives or other significants that have done the tupperware thing know what I'm referring to. I can see the cache description. It's a greenish color tupperware container. Most people will be looking for the larger ones and not one half the size of a film cannister... Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump -
quote:Originally posted by Team Donutdog:Most people consider it fine to do that, just be sure to log your visit to the cache as a note, not another find. Ditto, as that is what I've seen here. One of the cache owners locally goes and changes out trave lbugs that they find in other caches to keep them moving. If by all means you can help with the bugs mission, I say go for it. And just log it as a took the travel bug and not another find. Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump

If it's a trackable TB it should have a tag with the tracking number on it. Did it have a tag with it? What is the URL to the travel bug in question or the URL to the cache you are talking about? Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump

Jeremy hit the nail on the head. Hold an event and have the people gather in one place, then give them the coordinates, clues or whatever. At least it sounds more fair. Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump

Y'all bringing up the point of searching square miles makes me envision the line of searchers looking for evidence or bodies. I can see it now, someone will gather up a hundred folks spread them out finger tip to finger tip, to start the hunt. Military and former military will know what i'm speaking of. Remember the trash pickup details? LOL NJAdmin brought up some very great points as well as the others. Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump

Sounds neat. Sounds like a lot of no finds though. Wouldn't the approver have to know the actual coordinates of it, to approve it? And then they wouldn't be posted on the cache page? I'll be looking on here to see what the approvers say. It does sound interesting. Edit: Also wanted to add, I don't think it's a dumb idea. It may not work here, but it isn't dumb. Holy Moly...800 for one weekend? Is that a norm? How many cahces already approved get archived compared to that I wonder. Also I know that not all 800 do not get approved, but that's still a lot...I noticed one day I saw over 58,000 caches on the main page...now there's over 59,000 and it was not a very long time in between. Proper way to deal with a cache owner?
woodsters replied to woodsters's topic in General geocaching topics
Cool Walden! My concern were the messages that stated they had to park at the complex and cross it to get to the woods. My luck, I would run into the manager or security. Or even worse I would be seen cutting through, go into the woods with a bag and return a short time later. Someone would call the cops on me, I know it. lol I emailed the person on the cache page that is listed as the owner. It was a female that repsonded and as I mentioned up above she stated it was her boyfriends father and she has only checked it 2 times at the most in over a year. I emailed her in concern that since it hadn't been visited in 8 months and with the remarks made, I wanted to be sure it was there or if htey knew if it was. She stated she didn't know. I asked her she could check on it and let us know that it was still there or not and to let us know about hte private property issue. Haven't heard back yet on that last bit. Also as you know Waldenrun, that the caches around here are visited pretty good. There aren't very many that go a month or two that hasn't been visited. I will make plans for going to check it out this week or weekend sometime. Brian As long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump -
i'm going to place my first cache and i ordered a travel bug
woodsters replied to quills's topic in General geocaching topics
I would make sure that the bug is a size that will fit in the average cache containers. From what I've seen so far. I would say something that will fit in a tupperware type of container but not take up all the room as other things will need to go in it. Of course I can imagine that it can be of a size that is a little larger that can fit comfortably in one of the larger ammo cans. Just be prepared that the larger it is, the slower it may move because someone may not be able to place it in a cache because of the size thing. There's also times when it would fit in a cache container, but the container is already filled. That happened here. We took a bug from a cache and moved it to another cache. We were watching the cache we took it from and the bug. We noticed the person who took the bug that we moved, were trying to place it in the cache we picked it up from and on their comments said they couldn't because there was no room in the container. It was squeezed in it when we found it. We emailed them and let him know that we took it from there and he asked it fit in there when we took it. Anyway, he moved it along somewhere else. Your bug can have whatever mission you want it to have. You can put your bug in your own first cache if you want or place it in any cache you would like to get it into circulation. We've dropped 2 travel bugs so far and just recently. Here they are: Rollerblading Grandpa Bernie the Baseball Player Good luck. Pehaps you may want to contact carleenP and ask her, or maybe she will read and answer here herself. Brian s long as you're going to think anyway, think big. -Donald Trump

Yep they are a lot of fun..We used to have one, but sold because my inlaws bought 2 brand new ones better than the one we had. They live on the lake and is easier to just go to thier house and use theirs. It's always better without the payments, upkeep, gas, towing, and etc...no worries, just use theirs... If we had the chance and depending on where we lived, we would probably get another one. My son will be staying with them this summer for a couple weeks. His grandmother is interested in caching. He wants to try and get her to place one on this island right in front of thier house... Brian Wood Woodsters Outdoors http://www.woodsters.com

Exactly Verboten....There is some great information in that web address I posted. I think a lot of spam gets through some cracks there. I've read that of course they have to have the "opt out"...have you tried that? They don't always go to a legite opt out program. Another thing that caught my attention was the ones that have a deceiving subject but is something else in the body. Besides my woodsters address I have another website that has a domain name that is more common. We get tons of SPAM because of the previous owners of that domain name. The bad thing is that any email goes to the main email address of the website. Except for the email addresses we made up and specified....These folks received some crazy stuff.... or you could contact cache owners in that area and see if they will place something in their cache that has the information on it....you may have to provide the "somehting" to put in it...or you could ask the cache owners who are willing to participate in it to put something on the cache page about it as well... Would I get a hug Criminal? You are correct about people see things differently...now on that environmental damage thing.... Used smilies instead of laughing...didn't want to break the concentration....it's a joke... Brian Wood Woodsters Outdoors http://www.woodsters.com

Went to www.spamlaws.com , read some things briefly on it in the Federal section, but the summaries I read, they are referring to SPAM as unsolicitated bulk COMMERCIAL email. Of course there are different Acts that state different things....some interesting reading there.... Brian Wood Woodsters Outdoors http://www.woodsters.com

Geogryffindor, I got a lot of snipes left over that I received. How many truckloads you want? See, I love Mopar too. But, i'm about to take back all the nice things I've said about him in an email to another who got sniped. Of course that email was a few minutes before he got me. It's all good.... quote:Originally posted by BrianSnat:It is possible that it's on private property with permission I thought about that initially. But thought otherwise when people said they had to go through an apartment complex as well as park there at it or across from it. One cacher even made mention in their online log that they saw a tenant and the tenant said it was ok for them to do that. lol quote:As far as making an entry for a maint visit, it's a good idea. I always do it. It lets others know that the cache is there and in good order. This is especially helpful info if the cache hasn't been found for some time, as some peope are loath to look for a cache that doesn't have a recent find. That's what I was thinking as well. I mean if you went to your cache every week or so, then no you want to fill up the cache log with that. But as you stated and on the cache I was speaking of, I was thinking that if a period of time has gone by and people aren't logging it, then an occasional log of that you performed maintenance would be good, and would let others know that it is there and in good order. Thanks for your input. Brian Wood Woodsters Outdoors http://www.woodsters.com -
LOL Brian, the caches we've found that were 1's or 1.5's on the terrain part were no where near where a wheelchair could go. I do agree that a 1 should at least signify as wheelchair accessable and as you stated the same as the 1.5. hmmm I like brdad's idea. Even though we wouldn't normally take something like a computer disc with us, if it were perhaps saved in the format that will work in a DVD player. My brother in law made one up of a bunch of photos from my family for my dads retirement. I like photography so this kind of interests me now. What a great signature item. Other than the possibility of a GPS system interfering with system electronics, I would think that they are looking at GPSr's in airplanes a little differently than before 9-11. If I remember correctly it was on the news about how the hijackers got the coordinates off a vidoe game for the towers. Guess they can get the coordinates anywhere, but would the airlines look at it as a security risk? Brian Wood Woodsters Outdoors http://www.woodsters.com

I noticed the last time we flew which was in December, on Delta Airlines I believe, that others were allowed to use their laptops. Of course they weren't connected to the internet. I agree, it's gonna be a costly feature. I can see it now, there are going to be people hitting the "nudie sites" without care that others will be able to see the screen to include children. I noticed that a guy was watching a DVD on his laptop on our flight, and although it was a "bad" movie, I wondered how many people would put in a Rated R movie in.
