  1. How does everyone feel about logs containing just "TNLNSL" or "TFTC" and that's it?

They drive me crazy. I think it's a little bit rude, maybe that's just me. So, I've started putting this on some of my listings:

This just in: I now require one full sentence when you log the cache. Cache logs not containing a coherent sentence will be deleted. Thank you. (posted on 6/20/2007).

So it happened that I deleted my first two TNLNSL logs by the same cacher. After deleting the logs I sent them a nice note as to why. They reposted their find with the same "TNLNSL".

Is this really an unreasonable requirement?

I haven't yet deleted the reposted logs, I don't want to turn it into a pissing match.

A friend at work suggested I change it to a request instead of a requirement.

    Other suggestions?

    Thanks.

  2. Snake and I have concluded that SDCET has gotten soft and lazy. It's been a couple weeks and there's still no find on La Grenouille, and only one team (Toby's Gang) has found the whole series (sans The Frog) we placed in the Santa Ysabel Open Space Preserve over Memorial Day weekend. Wassup with that?!? There's about a dozen caches out here to be bagged, and the atmosphere is quite bucolic. Plenty of room for more random containers to fall off your backpacks, as well. In fact, there's an entire loop trail yet to be explored...

You had me sold up until you said "bucolic". My girls had that real bad when they were babies.

Remember when 1000 caches was a big number?

Remember when I went by the name Duscwe! (most pronounced it "douche-way")?

Just realized I passed my 4th year of caching...

What, exactly, was Parsa doing with this list...

I was just looking at numbers for something I'm doing, and this is the rough breakdown. I hope I didn't forget someone from the county. If I did, I'm sure I'll hear from you!

  4. So how many SD county cachers are planning on going to geowoodstock next year in Sacramento

I already told work and the Geowife that I will be out of town this time next year. They all think I'm mad...MAD I TELL YOU!!! WELL, I'LL SHOW THEM WHO'S MAD!!! :D

  5. Any interest in having a paperless caching clinic? ;)

It's been some time since the last one. B)

Lots of new cachers lately. :)

Who's gonna fly RocketMan in from CO??? :P

    D!

Is this something to figure out how to use GSAK and cachemate and what-not effectively for us new people?

If so, I would have an interest in it, I've left behind or lost so many pens at caches B) !

Yep, also to include GPX Sonar, Custom Points of Interest (POI), and whatever else I can't think of right now.

  6. I have another little tidbit. On one of the other threads someone was asking where people fell in the history of their state. As we know California was one of the early adopter states. When I joined about 4.5 years ago there were only 2000 caches in the entire state. Now there are 2000 caches within 20 miles of my house! It's pretty amazing how fast it's grown. It has been an exponential growth curve. :P

It worries me that the growth curve can't just keep going like that without loss of quality. I guess it has already happened, but it doesn't seem terrible, yet. But eventually, if the growth keeps up, won't there be a cache in a lampskirt or transformer every 0.1 miles in urban areas, and caches every 0.1 miles along every possible path in every park or open space, and caches that require bushwacking in every open space that doesn't ban it? I'd guess that there's a cache in every major scenic viewpoint in San Diego county already, for example, and I'm not bothered that there are a few more to grab on the way to those spots. But where does it stop? There's really no need for caches every 0.1 miles of every trail to every scenic spot. I have been hoping that I'd see a slowdown of the growth curve after geocaching found most of the hikers and geeks, but it hasn't happened yet.

What is already happening for me is that caches are popping up where I have already found caches before. In one case, I had found a cache where I used to have one hidden. I think the cache quality is the same as it was four years ago, it's just there's a lot more of them out there. I agree, no need for caches every .10 of a mile, every .20 is just fine! ;)

  7. There is...or was...or will be. Due to recent upheval in life I no longer possess the graphics files that I used. But I'm working on retrieval as we speak.

Taking sizing requests. Duncan? XL? Tom? XXXL? :anitongue:

And as I recall, only FM and Duncan! can claim to have found all my SD puzzles, maybe John&Jess as well.

I've found all but "Geocaching Geometry (Euclid's Revenge)" and "Serious Black" They were both archived before I started caching...

According to the logs, Duncan! has not found "Serious Black" either...which leaves FlagMan as the only one to find them all...

Guilty as charged, never got to look for that one...

  8. Hmmm, this thread is slow. How about a new topic or two? Maybe one of these will perk things up a bit!

    <big snip>

:D Yeah....you sure l know how to perk up a thread! :) I'm gonna be good and just say: I love everyone's caches and I appreciate the effort and the contributions to the addiction of geocaching. The reason we have lame urban micros and Go Bolts! caches is so that everyone can participate...the young, the old, the fit, the fat, the puzzle-smart and the not-so-smart. Just Have fun!!! r/ JnJ

I'm with Jodi. I love everybody's caches. Except GoBolts!', his suck. :D:P:P:):D

  9. Here we go again

I Stopped by my Cache, I Hate Rocks ,today to replace it, S2 and 78. A Ranger pulls up and says are you Geocaching, he had seen others looking in this spot. I go up to the road and explain that I was replacing a Cache. He says did you know Caches are illegal in ABDSP but this one should be OK because of the right-away of the highway. I explain to him we have guidelines we follow for Caches in ABDSP. He wants to know the guidelines and who approved them. Tried to explain them the best I could and didn't know who approved them. Told him about the Blair Valley Campout and the visit by the Ranger. He wanted a name (jerk). He said a couple of weeks ago in Blair Valley some hikers found an unpainted ammo can and called the Rangers. It was near where that nude guy lived. It was a Cache and they removed it. I told him go to the web site and E-mail Marco Ramis for the guidelines and more info. As far as he is concerned Caches are litter and he will remove any he finds. (JERK) I asked him if the web site for ABDSP said anything about Caches and he didn't know.

    RANGER BOB is a JERK

Edited for removal of unconstructive comments!

Re-edit: The rangers might want to work on their people skills. I've seen quite a few chips on quite a few shoulders.

I HAVE TO RIDE WITH HIM EVERY FRIDAY......NO NO NO...

    PLEASE...NO ICE PLANT

    :D:):D

NO MORE ICEPLANT, IF YOU ANSWER THE SURVEY! Jared missed your nuts at the campout, he saw the TB listed and got excited.:)

Has anybody ever hit this button?? :)

  12. Wrong account, that was my original account-- Idiot! :):D

Need comments -- After all of the comments about questionable caches recently, here is your chance.

After the CITO on Sunday, a small group (Jodi, Duckit, fisnjack, Thunder-4, jaredloser and me), went out to Whale Poop Isle.

    Whale Poop Isle

During our search a group came over from the Youth Aquatic Center and told us the rangers don't want anyone on the Island, it's a nesting area for some bird. We found two clutches with eggs and since we only saw ducks, assumed they were duck eggs. We did what all cachers do and continued the search.

While returning the equipment from the CITO, I talked with the ranger staff at the center. This is what I was told. The island is a nesting site for the California Least Tern, a U.S. federally listed endangered subspecies. Anyone seen on the island is asked to leave by the park rangers, lifeguards, and harbor police. They tell the kids at the camp if they are seen on the island, "they'll shoot them out of their shoes".

While I didn't specifically mention geocaching, it was evident that they don't want anyone on the Island. They are currently removing the ice plant, which is not native to the area (Tks-Duncan!) to provide a more suitable habitat.

Since the Least Tern is a small bird, the eggs are small and easily crushed by walking on them. I believe the eggs we saw were ducks eggs, but we could have easily crushed any other clutches in the ice plant. They are also in the process of placing signs, but to the number of agencies involved, it's a slow process, so they are doing what they can by asking people to get off.

While it would be easy to just archive the cache, it's been around since 9/9/2001 and does have history. Before the owner (Iron Chef, lives out of the area and has been inactive since 10/06) and a reviewer are notified, does anyone have comments/ideas.

Here are some possible options --

    1) - Just archive it, it's its moved, it will never be the same.

    2) - Move it to Fiesta Island

    3) - Move it to the main land

    4) - Do nothing, cachers should use their own judgement.

    5) - Why not try .............

It may be the unpopular choice, but I say just archive it... no cache is an island... I mean, no cache is meant to last forever. It was a good run, time to say goodbye.

Oh, don't get me started on ICEPLANT!! Makes me crazy!!

  13. Heh...here's a log that should bring back some memories for all you old skool SD cachers.

This is from a new cache called "El Ahorcado" in Tucson.

    El Ahorcado

As I recall, Duncan! once placed a cache and then camped out for my arrival to grill me for puzzle hints.

They've not reached that point yet out here.

Hey Jeff, at least you don't get cursed after an FTF!!

Pure coincidence. I happened to be placing a phamplet about the presidio in the cache when the FTF frenzy started. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

  15. Say does anybody know whatever happened to Radical Geezer? I forgot the website to track his status on his hike across the country.....

    Here ya go!

Funny you should mention Bill. I'm just putting the finishing touches on his website. I'm just giving it a new look, making it a little easier to read. I'm by no means a "webmaster", but I think it came out okay:

    http://wtetw.com/indexnew.htm

It will be up and running in a couple of days.

He says to say "hi". Hi.

I can only imagine all the caches he's passed by... ;)

Very impressive what he's doing - and you for helping - btw, Google Video is spelled wrong!

Yeah, I know, just testing you guys!;)

  16. There is a little controversy brewing in North County about suburban caches. No, not the Chevrolet kind, but the kind that are in peoples' front yards. Here are a few examples:

    Whats your opinion?

You only scratched the surface...you left out some of north county's worst!...

My opinion is: I don't like them...and I think the ones that do not state, in the description, that it is there house or that they have permission, should be archived.

I loved the one that is 40' down a driveway (big red ammo can visible from the street) and the listing says you don't need to enter the driveway.

Another good one is the one next to some one else's driveway (they don't know about it I guess) because they followed us for half of a mile and wrote down duncan's! license plate number when we stopped.

Good thing I had a rental car that day!!
