  1. Don't get me started on event only pocket caches, or iceplant for that matter... ;)

    What's wrong with iceplant?

I'm glad you asked. It's a non-native, invasive weed. I suppose it's okay for your front/back yard or the side of the interstate, but it gets into our canyons and starts killing off native plants. I guess the only good thing about it is that it can't survive heavy frosts, so you usually only find it in the costal areas. Iceplant really should be eradicated in all of SD's natural areas (Tecolote canyon is especially infested), so don't feel bad if you trample some on your way to a cache. Didn't I warn you not to get me started??

  2. Just visiting from Vancouver checking out some of the caches GCHJHW I visited I noticed this caches strange log.Heres there log what do you all think seems that they didn't log a cache but they want a smiley and I came here to go P but I dropped the package before we could sign the log. I went down to look where it may have landed but had no luck. Bill and Laurie came down and helped me search but that is when we all got wet....literally! The sprinklers went off!!! Thanks to me the cache is now missing but I'll replace it soon. Sorry about that!

If you lost a cache how do you get a smiley not sure how that works???

It was hard to follow what you wrote, but I agree that people should sign the logbook. I would have logged it after I replaced it and signed the log. Chalk it up to newbie enthusiasm. :P

    GCHJHW

    Read the log

Cacher had over 2000 finds {or did they}I mean write a note go home replace cache then log your smiley but come on you lost a cache and you want credit even though you never did sign the log !!!!!

We will have the violators flogged and stoned. :) They said they would replace it. :D Maybe you should plan a trip to Wisconsin and attend one of their events.... :D:)

Yes, Thunder-4 and company have earned all 2000 + of their caches, make no mistake there.

Although (personally) I wouldn't have posted a "found it" until the cache had been replaced, the San Diego Geocaching Police has determined that no major crime has been committed.

Thank you for your concern and happy caching,

Only 506.3 miles form home coords, do you think if I left right now I could still get the FTF. 0002014F.gif

Looks like someone got it.. and I was just about ready to go out.

    Dang, there's a place y' wanna be!

  5. Back to whining.

I hate it when people put golf balls in caches.

Guilty. I put them in if I find 'em on the way to the cache, and there's room for it, and the ball is in decent condition.

    I hate it when people whine :) - and I'm a big whiner! :) .

Chuy, how many times have I told you...

Well, that's a thread-kill if I ever saw one!

By all means, please don't let me stop your incessant whining. :(

  7. I've noticed a few cachers sometimes replace their muggled caches with a brand new cache with a new number, rather than just replacing their old cache. What do you guys think of that? Here I am, opinionated Ron, stating my opinion for one such cache:

    http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...0b-1b02c15f88cb

From the previous logs, no one made a negative comment at all, so I presume this is considered perfectly fine and normal.

Despite my post and log I'm really not that bothered by it, just a little. But I suppose there's nothing I can do about it, just like a recent rash of nuisance urban caches!

When I did this very thing several years ago I got an approver's panties in a major bunch. He/She more or less tore me a new one for doing such a silly thing. So, based on my experience, it is not the thing to do. However comma that was several years ago. What am I saying then? I dunno. I just go out and find the darned things. What were we talking about?

  8. I stopped by the Miramar Station to pick up my Take Cover container. They were surprised, as was I, that I was the only cacher that contacted them regarding the containers. Some had TBs and geocoins; so, it surprised me that the owners did not feel an obligation to retrieve their containers, if anything, just to save these items.

I met the officer that was involved in retrieving the containers; he went ahead and released all 11 containers to me. As he handed them to me, he recalled from memory the names of most of the caches. When he got to one of Harmon's pill bottles, he started swearing that it took them an hour to find. All the logs and swag are intact; contact me to retrieve your cache, or I'll donate it to the October Campout event.

    Good job, Chuy!!

  10. Well, thanks to MissJenn, there's a few less caches I need in MTRP. Looks like the Marines are cracking down.
I missed the story in this. I know the outcome but what happened with MissJenn?

As far as I know, nothing happened to MissJenn. MissJenn is a Groundspeak Lackey who is possession of a letter from the MCAS Miramar Consolidated Public Affairs Office stating that these caches are on government property and are in the impact zone of their rifle range. For safety reasons, they (the Marines) are removing these caches.

It's not really "thanks to MissJenn" that the caches are gone. She's just the messenger.

Sorry, I assume everyone gets archive notices.

I didn't mean anything negative by the "thanks to MissJenn"... it's just she's the one who did the archiving.

Maybe I should have said "thanks to the Marines"... not that I meant anything negative!!!

Congratulations to the one, the only FATTBOY for achieving 1,500 finds. Add to that his eighty-four hides.

You are a credit to our local Geocaching community Bobby, good work all around.

I was there for 1000 and then 1500, so I will be there for 2000, so get busy finding more cache's.:D:angry:

    BZ, FB! Sweet lid!

  14. How does everyone feel about logs containing just "TNLNSL" or "TFTC" and that's it?

They drive me crazy. I think it's a little bit rude, maybe that's just me.

I know if I was Ed56 I would be insane by now :huh::angry:

    One Word Logs?

Just updating my itsnotaboutthenumbers numbers, redundant isn't it?, and came across some interesting info  !

Yeah, one out of 5877 logs. Lock me up and throw away the key!

Yes, I was being rude. So there.

  15. How does everyone feel about logs containing just "TNLNSL" or "TFTC" and that's it?

They drive me crazy. I think it's a little bit rude, maybe that's just me.

First, I tend to treat my logs like the caches I find. If it is an LPC, or something else that is totally uninspired, then my log will be uninspired also. However, if you put effort into the cache, I will put effort into my log as well.

On a second note, I have to admit that I found your post really funny. :o

When he is in town...you cache with the cut and paste king! <_<

I'm not sure who brought up the cut and paste thing. I'd rather get 100 cut and paste logs than one TNLNSL log. At least in the C&P logs they had something nice to say.

For every cache I find I will have at least one unique sentence (no matter how uninspiring the cache is). The hider went to enough trouble to shove an altoids tin under a lamp post, I think they deserve that much.

    Hey Now!

There is a difference between both of your posts though.

When you and Dave come through town and break... I mean find a bunch of my caches, I always take the time to read your logs...since like you pointed out, you always take the time to say something unique. If you take the time to write it, I take the time to read it.

However, when I get 2 identical posts from Dave, I just tag and delete the rest since I know what they all say already. Basically, it's not that much different than an uninspired TNLNSL.

Now, I have only had a few days where I cached enough to have 30 or 40 logs to type...and unless the cache was unique, I am hard pressed to remember anything about it...and that bothers me. On a long day, I try to take notes so I can make a nice comment on each find.

I see your point. It's just that C&Ps don't drive me crazy as TNLNSLs or TFTCs do. Call me silly.

Okay, to set the record straight... The thing was already pulled out of the ground when we got there. I do admit to tipping it to get the cache out...not 'cause I was impatient, but only because I didn't understand it was that type of cache... and I paid for it by getting some sticky, soda-type liquid all over me. So, I will admit to being stupid, but not intentionally destructive or inconsiderate.

    Howzabout that local sports team?

Thanks for letting me vent, I think that was the most important thing. I'm not gonna sweat the small stuff, I'll let people write what they wanna write. Happy caching,
