  1. Say does anybody know whatever happened to Radical Geezer? I forgot the website to track his status on his hike across the country.....

    Here ya go!

Funny you should mention Bill. I'm just putting the finishing touches on his website. I'm just giving it a new look, making it a little easier to read. I'm by no means a "webmaster", but I think it came out okay:

    http://wtetw.com/indexnew.htm

It will be up and running in a couple of days.

He says to say "hi". Hi.

I can only imagine all the caches he's passed by...

  2. Hey, that's a problem I actually solved when designing cell-phone software at NeoPoiint and at HydroForce. Easy, intersection of polar hyperbolas with axis rotation and translation. Critical parameters are the signal propagation time from each of three cell nodes. Analytical geometery during second-year calculus.
Oh sure Harmon, but what happens when you have a particle of preanimate matter caught in the matrix? :D:D
... PUD cake is the one true way to enter the realm of enlightenment.

Sure...but heaven help you if you get a particle of preanimate PUD cake caught in the matrix! :D

Someone's been watching too much Star Trek II?

I love it when Chekov says "Wessels"!

    Cache long and prosper!

  3. I think Domelands is an 8 mile hike...Right Jahoadi?

:) Yes...about 8 miles from my memory. I think I still have the trip sheet from the hiking club. You don't need 4x4 to get to the trail head. It's about 2 miles on a dirt road off S-?? just north of Ocotillo.

It is off the S2. Here is the area from Google Earth:

It looks like you approach the hiking trail from that dirt road that goes NE from the S2.

:D Yes..that's it. Not alot of caches, but the area is georgeous....fossils, mud pots, slot canyon, oyster bed, cool washes, etc etc. Look at Gecko Dad's pics.

Well, I was hoping to go out with you guys to my caches, but we're having my youngest's b-day party on that Saturday, she'll be four. I was hoping to replace my caches with ammo boxes. Anyone care to lug them out there for me?? Have fun (without me) :) ,

  4. Watching local news reminds of something Kent Brockman once said:

"I'm Kent Brockman, on the eleven o'clock news tonight...a certain type of soft drink has been found to be lethal, we won't tell you which one until after sports and the weather with Sonny Storm."

  5. Hi all, lowracer's baby boy here... Dad (lowracer) is moving us to San Diego from my birthplace of Wichita and wanted to know where y'all hung out online, looks like this is the place. Dad's account (lowracer) is not able to post to the forums due to a clerical or technical error that has defied all attempts to fix it, so he sent me in here, even though I'm only 6months old today and just learnt how to type.

Anyway, he'd appreciate a warm southern California welcome. It's not easy moving to a new city and a new job, but he knows he'll have something to do on the weekends besides feedings and diaper changes. I've already found one cache myself, though I was too young to log it at the time. Now that I can type, I'll probably go log that one now.

BTW he's planning to be at the Geocoin event, if he can make it.

    -sky boo

    aka "lowracers_baby"

Welcome! You've quite a few caches to find out here. I hope you like puzzles. Hey, sky boo, if ya wanna make some money, you can type in my log entries, it's mostly cut and paste anyway! :(

Team Exclamtion has been talking about an event at the Brew House in La Jolla...

    Again, welcome!

  6. The BRA's hired me :D to be their guide for a night hunt trough the west side of McGinty on Thursday evening. I was just about to post an invite to all last night when it started raining. Not that we're afraid of a little mud but we decided to put it off a week or two.

So, just keep this in mind if anyone is up for a night hunt; probably 7p to midnight.

It was going to be Th 'cause Barbara is going to Big Bear this weekend, but we can probably move it to Friday or Sat.

Sounds good for a night hike.. Can I plant puzzles?

Hmmmm...planting puzzles on a night hike sounds like an excellent idea...

'Cuz then you could plant 'em where the sun don't shine!

An M&M tube works best for that... well, that's what I heard!:):D

  7. I was out hiking and we found a large glass pickle jar with notes in it. It had a pencil, pencil sharpner, chap stick, and several hand written notes. I believe the oldest note was from 2004 and the newest was a few weeks ago.

    The coords are N32 20.769'

    W111 09.938'

This is in the Tucson mountains at what we call panther peak. I will also post this in the southwest chat area.

Any way of knowing if this is an official cache?

Maybe a peak register? Closest traditional cache is over 2 miles from those coordinates.

  8. Plus I'm also waiting for the new cache wars to end around McGinty.... :P

I suspect that this is all my fault...for the past year, I had been putting off doing McGinty. As I told Miragee, I wasn't going to do it until the entire grid was filled up. So, after a year of stability on the mountain, I figured that I might as well go ahead and do McGinty. So...

...in the three days before I went, a handful of new caches appeared on McGinty. A handful of new caches appeared the day I went. And I've lost count of the all the caches that have appeared since then.

So, if you want to maximize your caching time and not go back repeatedly, the word the wise is to wait until LLOT does an area and then wait 6-8 weeks for the dust to settle. ;)

You afraid of a little hike :drama: .

I went up that dang peak five times in a two-week period. Guess what? I'm not done!

I don't believe there's any accounting for insanity!

  9. Hey all!

I have a friend that travels across the big pond a bunch, and is interested in purchasing the best GPSr for Europe. They travel all over the country, visiting B&B's. He's very proficient in maps, but I thought a GPSr with mapping capabilities would be awesome! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Robyn of Team Reid

I believe GoBolts! was very happy with Mapsource's City Navigator: Europe

when he went to Norway. I think it was Norway, or Sweden, one of those places. He has a garmin gpsmap 76csx, but it would work just as well on my 60cx

I don't know what the other option is, if any.

  10. Thanks Duncan! I've been looking at some of your puzzle caches today as some are near where we are staying  .

I've not heard of Sweetwater Reservior - do you have a GC code of a nearby cache so I can take a look please?

MTRP is definitely on the list for the trip too - looks my kind of thing but am a little cautious about a lot of steep terrain as our 8 year old is not a fan of too much uphill. It's hard to get a good feel for the terrain without actually being there so maybe I'm worrying unduly?

One of the originals at Sweetwater: GC7203

There's lots of potential for steep hikes at both MTRP and Sweetwater.

If you can, install google earth, it will give you at least an idea of the ups and downs.

    Cya,

  11. We're going to be there in a few weeks time so I'm starting to think of some serious planning for our caching.

We'll be staying in the Mission Beach area for most of the vacation and our aim is to get as many finds as possible in the minimum of time (Mrs BH is not a cacher so we can't go caching all the time).

I'd love some suggestions on what to look at to get as many finds as possible in a day. I'd envisage 3-4 days out doing nothing but caching and then grabbing caches as we pass by doing vacation type things on the other days.

    Thanks in advance  .

If you're not hiking at MTRP or Sweetwater Reservoir, I'd suggest starting at Mt Soledad (GCM4X2), then hit UCSD (GCXZDK), then head north up the coast to Oceanside (GCVK78). You could hit quite a few caches and it's a great drive with lots of ocean views. Have fun!

  12. It was a great hike no matter how off track we got.....how many people can say they were rescued buy a golf cart?
It was a great hike! :) Jerry, Miragee and I came up with a few ideas for future hikes this year including:

    Secuan/Wind Caves

    Gaskill/Lawson

    Indiana Ed's

    Eagle Peak

    Mt. Miguel

    Fortunas

 I really really really want to go to Duncan!'s caches at the Domelands. It is my all time favorite Desert hike ( about 8 miles RT) Could you add that to your list? I promise you won't be disappointed. jodi

Actually, I seem to remember Domelands being about 5 miles RT. Of course, it could always get up to eight if Paul leads the way! :anicute:

He could also hide a few more along the trail!

If we go to the desert, Paul is NOT leading the way! ;)

Where in the desert is Domelands?

    Just north of Ocotillo. GCHEGV

No finders in nearly a year!

  14. CONGRATS TO DUNCAN FOR REACHING 4800 TODAY...AND IT WAS HIS BIRTHDAY!!

Thats some big numbers :D:D Congrats and Happy Birthday.

:D:DHappy Birthday Duncan! and Yahoo on 4800...are you ahead of $kimmer yet?

Nah, that vine-ripened lady always seems to stay about 200 caches ahead of me. Someday(?).

  15. Just doing an informal poll as to how people calibrate the compass on their GPS. How many of you stand in the middle of a public place and turn slowly for two complete circles or the other option being to turn the GPS slowly for 2 complete turns while it is resting in your hand? I personally am one of the fools who read the GPS telling me to turn 2 full circles and did just that. It worked but it looks rather silly. Tell me I'm not the only one. Please.

I bought a 60Cx just for that reason... I got tired of calibrating the compass. Also, I found no use for it. However, when I did have my vista, yes, I turned slowly for 2 complete turns. I just do what the GPSr tells me to. All hail the GPSr. End transmission.
