  1. Reading through this thread and associated links. Wait a minute... Maybe I'm just sleepy. Are there caches premium members cannot access unless they spend the extra ten dollars on the backcountry app? Even though I'm a premium member, I still don't have access to all the caches with just the intro app?

    Really?

    Chris

No, you don't have access to all the types of caches and events with the intro app.

This is for the iPhone, but I assume the Android is the same:

    B.

Thank you! That's exactly what I was looking for, but what does it mean favorite points can be seen only? On the paid app, but basic membership?

  2.

lol I promise it was a real trackable geocoin! How can I "discover it" if it doesn't exist in the system?

I think Pup Patrol was referencing the other trackable you left behind, not the one you can't identify.

oh gotcha, yeah I didn't write down the tracking number on that one, so I can't discover it, but i did email the owner, and just let them know that it's still in there.

You don't need to mail the owner. You can just write a note at the trackable's page. For a note you don't need the code.

About the coin: does it say trackable or not?

Sometimes there are sample coins in caches that say "trackable" on them, but the code is bogus, either XXXXXX or something like 003873 (that seems to be kind of a identification number at the mint used for samples). Some say SHARKZ for landsharkz and so on. But then it's not a real code.

Another otion is that the code has a spelling mistake...

If you upload a picture, maybe someone can identify the coin.

Yeah, it said trackable at geocaching.com and had a mix of number and letter for the tracking number. I didn't take a picture of it, and I left it in the cache, since I didn't know what to do with it.

Also, thanks for the tip on leaving a note. Didn't know how to do that. I'll look harder next time. :)

  3. So, I've been caching for about a week now, so I still have the basic, free app. (I will upgrade at some point, but wanted to find all the easy ones first) And I seem to have disappearing green dots. Even two that I found last night, are no longer on my map. Not even smilies, just...nothing. And there's a few that I noticed last week that I wanted to find, and they're not there anymore either! Anyone have any idea what's going on? They're still on the map when I look online, just not on my app.

  5. I went caching tonight, and found a cache with a GC in it, and when I look up the code on the back, it says does not exist in system? I'm assuming that means the owner didn't claim it online? So what does one do in that situation?

    this cache?

    http://coord.info/GC52TX8 A Garden Treasure

the inventory shows this trackable: http://coord.info/TB727WC

If that's the trackable that you retrieved, then you should double-check the tracking number, as it is obviously in the system.

Common mistakes are mistaking an O for a 0, a B for an 8, etc.

    B.

Nope, tried every possible combination, and it's not in the system. I left it in there, as I wasn't sure what to do with it.

    Okay, well that's fine.

One other thing I forgot to mention is that it *should* say "trackable at geocaching.com" if it actually is a geocoin.

Perhaps what you saw was some sort of sig item or a pathtag.

Neither one of those things would be trackable on Groundspeak's website.

Also forgot to mention that you could post a "discover" log for the trackable that was in the inventory and that you saw. Not a major thing, but it does let the trackable owner that their trackable is okay (at that time).

  9. sorry for all the confusion guys. I guess my first question is, if I buy the app, and don't get the premium membership yet, do I even get the favorite points? Then, if I do get my favorite points with the app, will I get favorite points for each of my 10 finds that i found before I bought the app?

  10.

Just be careful that it isn't labeled "trackable at geocaching.com" (or anything similar). Those are geocoins, and should be moved from cache to cache, and their movements should be logged online (at geocaching.com of course).

But otherwise, they're just trade items.

Yeah, it was definitely a signature coin. It had a number on it, but it wasn't a trackable number, just a #002 or whatever. Can't wait to find a trackable though! :)

  11. What's the etiquette when finding someones signature coin in a cache? Do we move it to another cache like a trackable, or leave it where it is? Or trade it for some swag, and collect signature coins? I'm guessing probably not the latter, but thought I'd ask.

  12. Hi, I just started geocaching a couple days ago, and have already found 3. yay! Sorry this is all still very fun and exciting. Ok, so here's my question. If I wait to upgrade until I've found all 30-something easy green caches in my town, will I still get my 3 favorite points? Or should I upgrade after I've found 9? I'd like to try and find all of the easy ones first, but I don't want to lose my heart points.

    Thanks
