  1. After seeing the movie "The Bucket List" I was thinking about what to place on my "Bucket List" (For those of you who haven't seen the movie, it is a list of things to do before you kick the bucket!). The idea came to me that it may be a good idea to start with "The Seven Wonders Of The World"...I mean they are "Wonders", revered by all. So, I looked them up on Wikipedia only to find it is not that simple! There are Ancient, Modern, Engineering, Underwater, Natural...etc. etc. wonders of the world. Being that type of guy, I would probably want to start with the Natural Wonders. Ok, so the rest is obvious...how about a series of caches that take you see the 7 Natural Wonders of the world? I did (like many of you) take part in The Magnificent Journey (TMJ) and now think we could create a more magnificent journey, perhaps using a similar format. What I would like is a dedicated cache at each of the Seven Wonders of the World, each that could be found independently of each other, logged as a cache with a clue in each as to the location of a Final Cache. As with TMJ I think it would be nice to enlist the help of other cachers. I would love ideas and help. I thought I would start at home looking for help. I do realise that we are a tiny community and not many of us read the forums. Ideas? Help? Keen?
  2. Ha ha! Just do the cache to understand!
  3. Don't rest Blackjack, you have only answered the first half of the question. Now we all wait with bated breath to find out which cache is found the most frequently....(that sounds like an....easy.....thing to work out..........)
  4. 7 out of 10 for Cape Town.....
  5. One cache I know of has an ALR (additional logging requirement) of telling a story to claim the find. It can be fact or fiction, but to claim the find a story (of minimum length) MUST be told. I really like that idea! He then selects the best story each year, and sends that cacher a prize by post. One way to get interesting logs!
  6. Kind offer of the beer! If you come to Cape Town I'll buy you a umqombothi! Maybe then we will be more able to spot the tokoloshe!
  7. Thanks for all the replies! This topic was all just a little tongue in cheek and was more to share an interesting geocaching experience. I would never log this as a find, have posted a "needs maintenance" note, have contacted the owner offering to return the cache to him, or to its location. He has requested me to return the cache to its hiding place, which I shall do to the best of my abilities (as I don't really know where it was hidden - the owner has given me all the info he can) after fixing it up and adding new swag. It will be replaced in about 2 weeks and then I MAY log a really .... strange.... feeling find. I am STILL in the process of convincing my friend to register and log his find.

I'll be honest, flash mob events make me feel a little uneasy. Yes, there is an element of fun, those quizzical stares one must get, meeting fellow cachers, camaraderie, sharing a meal afterwards.....but something about them make me feel that they are a little OTT. Have not yet attended one. Maybe when I am a little more obsessed with geocaching.... Anyone else feel a little ambivalent?
  9. Can I log a find of a 3 and a half star terrain rated cache, from the top of a mountain, without leaving home? Logbook signed, swag traded? Ok, I'll explain. I have a non caching friend (who knows about caching) who went for a walk to the top of a mountain. He found a bemugggled (baboon muggled) cache that I haven't found yet. Being concerned, he gathered up the strewn contents and brought the cache to me, log book and all. Can I sign the log, do a trade and log a find? I have after all had the cache in my hands now. (He volunteered to return it to its rightful place) Armchair caching taken to a new level.....
  10. Can someone put my TB in one of these please.... Also curious to know the answer.
  11. INokia and others having trouble getting new caches should travel here... Must be quite difficult to "cache out" an area like that!

    Birthday

Happy Birthday Andy. You hard work is really appreciated! I am sure all of us wouldn't mind our new caches sitting in the "waiting for review" queue for a few days if you took a little time off to celebrate! Have a great day and I hope you find at least one really good cache today!
  13. I am most proud of a cache that takes you through a museum which shows destruction of housing by the apartheid system. Through the collection of clues, it gives all the information needed to assist an under privileged person in obtaining a housing subsidy. The housing subsidy is enough to purchase a small house. A cache to help right past wrongs.
  14. Hi I am lucky enough to be heading to Mauritius for a Holiday. There are only 16 caches in Mauritius, pretty much all of them look to have been placed by holiday makers. I don't get the feeling there are local Mauritian cachers. There are a couple of great spots that could do with a cache. I would love to place a cache, but know that no matter how good the hide a cache will probably need maintenance now and then. This then is the appeal: Would it be possible for any South African reading this to help with maintenance? Is there anyone who goes fairly regularly that is willing to help? If not, are there enough cachers going once only that could help maintain a "SOUTH AFRICAN" cache in Mauritius. I know Andy is tough when reviewing caches that can't be maintained (rightly so!) Let me know (....and Andy, I know you'll read this, what do you think?)
  15. Disagree. Forums affect change. Since reading the forums I place caches differently, been prompted to maintain caches and have got a TB that was stuck in a cachers possession, moving again. Real world stuff!
  16. Not hearing more about the event cache, batsgonemad and his squirrel. Any lives endangered, any relationships mended?
  17. Hi Mouse I speak for myself, but I enjoy most of the caches I find. Some get me walking up mountains, some show quirky things, some teach me history, some are just plain fun. So, I find it difficult to answer directly. I have so many more to find that I am happy by just going out and finding the mix! You could try looking at the more experienced cachers profiles in you area and seeing if they have a favourites list in their bookmarks. Here is one for Western Cape
  18. "One day we happened to stop on a rural country bridge and while there we accidently discovered a magnetized cache" Hey, so those little information sheets we all dutifully put in our caches do sometimes work! I was on the toilet when I found out about geocaching. Wildlife magazine. Checked out the site only to find I was surrounded by caches. Went out the next day and found one across the road from where I work. Glad for the experiences I wouldn't have had , mountains I wouldn't have climbed, history lessons I wouldn't have learnt, and people I wouldn't have met since then!
