  1. It looks to me that this is the most found cache on the planet. Over 8000 finds. (It is probably the most found with the least...visits) Are you going to find it?
  2. Ha Ha! 8219 finds!!! I had a look at the most found cache in my home country, South Africa. It has had a whopping 228 finds! (We probably have less than a thousand active cachers out of a total population of 45 million people)

Hi Carbon Hunter, found any today? (Hard carbon, that is).
  4. I also will not log a find if I didn't sign the log, that's not the point though. The point is would you let others log a find? In my case the cache is in Mauritius. The listing has a mega spoiler photo on it as it is a small micro, and everyone is only going to get one shot at it. Some Germans went on holiday. They didn't print the listing or spoiler. they took loads of photo's at the cache spot (they got to experience what i hoped they would), they asked to log a find. (Would I have done the same? No.) I let them log a find. Was I wrong?
  5. I had a similar request for one of my caches. I look at this way: I know rules are rules and all that but this is just a "game" after all. No one "Wins" or "Loses". So you are faced with a choice - make a stranger happy or make a stranger sad. When I look at it like that, I wonder what the point of not allowing them to log is.

Congrats Trevorh7000 on reaching 50! (and celebrating with a skinny dip while doing the cache!)

Top of the morning to you iNokia
  9. Thanks for all the work!! What a fantastic set of guidelines, just sad that it was not around when I started placing caches and have had to learn a lot of it for myself. I started this thread a while ago, hoping to discourage "lame caches" and was so happy to see your tactful discouragement of such caches. Thank you! One thing I am trying to sort out in my caches are additional waypoints. I have a Nuvi and have Cachemate on my cellphone. Additional waypoints can be annoying for me in that these paperless programmes list these points almost as a cache listing. If they are not named with reference to the parent cache, it can be difficult using them. Sometimes I am following a winding path with additional waypoints, and need to read each one just to figure out which comes next. If the are labelled with the name of the cache first, then a description of the point (all in the waypoint Name) it would be much easier to use them. A description in the description area is also helpful, especially if it is a question to answer at the way point. As an example. Name of cache and clue in the name, name of cache and question to answer in the description. Its a small thing, but as we try to offer the best, most professional cache descriptions we can. I wish I known about it earlier. Obviously I do this from my own experience with my own equipment, would it help on other GPSr? Ditto on the "non-acceptable" items. Thanks again for all the work! certainly some reminders there for me.
  10. Choose the amount you want to leave, and get gift vouchers for a popular store. Why not be impulsive and leave something valuable? Random acts of kindness can only be a good thing! Pity most don't adhere to trading up/even. i have just started an experimental cache that strictly controls the trading and the value of the cache has increased quite nicely! (One of the items i put in there was a new Maglight). The cache seems quite well received too. I like useful items. Cut up a chamois leather into smallish squares to be used as glasses cleaners, packet of cable ties, a roll of string....
  11. Also interested in night caches. Wrote off to try and get a permit for a night cache in one of the cape forests (which all close at 6pm) but was declined. TMNR has decided against night caching. I do have a plan for a driving night cache, but its not hidden yet. (And perhaps one in a graveyard). I have found only one ammo cache container in Cape Town.

  13. Hi - if I search for "ZA", or "Durban" under the "Search for existing routes" tab, I get nothing. If I search for "Johannesburg" I get pages of routes going through the American Johannesburg. - if I search for "Durban" under the "Keywords" tab I do find this route. We must enter KEYWORDS.
  14. Hi I also am having problems with this. Searching is the problem. It appears that the search engine will either search for routes by LOCATION or by KEYWORD, not by the route's NAME. In other words calling your route "ZA - whatever whatever " doesn't help. All you need do is put za as one of the keywords in the save provided. If I put in za to the keyword search, the only result I get is one of my routes. If I put in "South Africa", I get quite a few results, as it has been used as a KEYWORD. Am I correct?
  15. Hey, that's good news! How about a TM climb event cache?
  16. Sorry, I am dull. My Nuvi is just "my Nuvi".

Hey, I missed this one! Happy New Year to you too! May your 2009 have: Dry logbooks Good weather on week ends Long logs for your hidden caches Useful Swag Spider web off, rather than on, the path. (or at least without the spider at mouth height!) Brilliant new caches less than 10kn from home Gps accuracy of 4m or less at all times May 9 be great for all! (Hi boris)
  18. Dont know the name of the coach company, but it was pulled by Zebras.
  19. The Americans have got a commemorative cache near the sight of the first ever cache. How about replacing/adopting Jors? (As you were the only one to find it!) Now that you have been caching for....a while...(lol)...do you think it is a viable hiding place? Micro?
  20. I am keen to do this. Not available this coming week end (17/18) but may be able to do it on the following 2.
