CONGRATS IPAJERO Wow that was quick! If you were in the UK I would be impressed, but it was done here!!! Amazing
  2. Nearly lost a TB, but went back and found it. Had a TB hotel which was muggled. Felt awful and archived it immediately!
  3. There is a freeware windows mobile app (which is awesome) that has been discussed in other threads. These threads have been deleted. Anyone know why? I have purposely not mentioned its name, for fear of this thread being deleted. It is truly an amazing app, and it would be nice to share the info about it with others. Anyone know what's up?
  4. I set up a night cache in an urban area that you can do from tour car (for safety). I give coords of the clue, you shine the light and have to count the number or reflective fire tacks. You use the number to find the final. All you need are trees with about 20 yards of the road, and safe places to stop. To make it a little trickier, you can split up the fire tacks, putting them on different trees at the same clue location. Make sure you use the camo fire tacks so that they cant be seen during the day.
  5. Hi Andy I kind of know the answer to this... Sometimes one gets an idea for a cache and finds a a brilliant location, but because the cache is complex / needs a lot of research / need you to buy something specialized / find additional hiding places for stages of a multi (or whatever), it takes you time to prepare the cache. The next minute, as your months of prep are nearly finished, someone comes and plonks down a simple traditional in "your" cache location, and all your hard work is for naught! ....and potentially the caching world has lost out on something special. I would love to be able to "reserve" a cache location (for a defined time) with the reviewer, giving an intent of the cache. This would help, I think to spur me on to getting around to place the cache, before me "reserved" time expires. Now as I said, I know the answer....sorry, no can do! Well that kind of forces the cacher to think of other ways to "reserve" the location. The only alternative is to plonk down the simple traditional yourself, finish your work for the planned cache, then archive the simple and publish the more complex cache.....which just feels a little unsatisfactory. Whats your feeling?
  6. Red Headed weavers seem to be multi talented! LOL! .......... But seriously..... How are you so quick? How do you get time to cache with all the admin going on? Also, do you enjoy it?.....do you see burn out on the horizon.....?
  7. Hi Andy. I want to set up a multicache, with "questions to answer" type waypoints. Do these clash , in terms of proximity, with other caches? There is a cache, I want you to collect clues near it. How do I go about it?
  8. Don't beat yourselves up too much guys! I only added the reference point today in response to Trev"s recent comments (he did give me a bit of a lambasting after his Nuvi led him around on a goose chase and he missed FTF, LOL!)
  9. (Just for you Trev! (link))
  10. Hi Besem Finally managed to get an idea for a night cache! It is now up and running. Fish Eagle tells me that it is the first in SA that he is aware of. It is a true night cache in that it would be almost impossible to do during the day. Seems that those that have found it have had fun.
  11. How's the trip so far?
  12. I must have been looking for the same cache a Trev this week end! Was also auto routed to the middle of nowhere in the winelands (looking for "Fine Wine 4 - Four Fine Wines"). Luckily the goose chase led me close to two other caches. I didn't feel it was a train smash and had a quick look at Google maps on my phone and saw my error. I think the question is: If the waypoint was provided, would you use it? You would have the option not to use it. Unless getting there is part of the challenge, it is nice to have a routable waypoint.
  13. LOL! That covers it, thanks!

Hi Amasoeksoek and Fish Eagle. Cats and Dogs in Cape Town today. No caching for me...
  15. Andy, what are your views on proximity issues? When may you allow a cache to be too close to another?

Congrats TTG! 500 caches old! Any suggestions for my 200th?
  17. Thanks Pilotsnipes! Will give it a try! I really respect you for the amount of time you give to others.....
  18. Hi CH I just published SA's first night cache (ie a cache you HAVE to do at night) also using tacks. SA is challenging from the safety perspective, so I did and urban night cache (The forestry dept denied a permit for night caches and Cape Forests close at 18h00). As much as I wanted to get cachers to walk through a forest at night, I couldn't find a spot that was suitable and safe. To find my cache you can stay in the car and collect clues by shining your torch out the window. The tacks are in groups and represent the numbers of the cache coordinates. You could incorporate the idea by having some trees with more than 1 tack along the trail. Collect the numbers for the final as you go along. Do tell cachers to hold the torch at eye level, do put the tacks on the side of the tree it can be seen on both in and out journeys, do hide the tacks well so that they can only be seen at night (otherwise people may attempt it during the day). Don't put them too far apart.
  19. I just have to ask..... Why on earth would anyone want to find so many caches in one day? Mind numbing.
  20. I try not to give a hint till FTF has found it. If I do a lot of research and write a long listing, to try to prevent it from being ignored, I will use the hint to get you to read the listing. You can even make a mini puzzle out of it. If I have put the cachers through a substantial walk or a lot of work, I give a very detailed hint. If the hide is a "needle in a haystack" (like a micro in a rock wall) I will also give a detailed hint. I work on the principle that if I leave a long hint people will decrypt it at home rather than in the field. I often read hints before I leave home, I quite often make a conscious decision not to look at the hint. I HATE the "what, you want a hint?" type of hints. Rather leave it blank. Hints that are too clever just make me fell stupid and reduce the enjoyment. A hint can mean the difference between a difficulty 1 and difficulty 5 on some caches. The ultimate hint is a spoiler, which I have only used once as it was a hectic hide, a micro in a massive rock wall with millions of hidey holes. Not one DNF to date...

Hi Redglobe Forums a little dull today...
  22. Apologies in advance if the question has been asked before, but this is an intimidating thread to read from start to finish! Is there any way for this Macro (which is brilliant and has absolutely made my geocaching much easier and enjoyable) to display child waypoints differently? I find it quite difficult finding a child waypoint for a particular cache. If doing a multi where there are waypoints all over the place, some near, some far, it would be nice to be able to have the caches name rather than the childs GP number as the way of being sorted. Then one could see which waypoints belonged to which cache. Can this macro do that? Does the "Advanced Macro" do it? Any suggestions? I have a Nuvi 300. Thanks so much for a great macro! (That must be a least the third or fourth time I am thanking you...LOL!)
