  1. Anyone know about roadworks? Which is the best route?
  2. I am walking the Otter Trail on Sunday. Any caches that are must do on the way through the garden route? Would love your ideas. Anyone who wants to get a TB moving, and can get it to me,...most welcome!
  3. How about this cache as being in the spirit of geocaching? No FTF's for months, then... And the response.... ?
  4. CUM often stock quite a nice, cheap micro container on the "Gidget" displays. They tend to come and go, sometimes you find them, sometimes you don't. Otherwise..... http://www.sageoshop.co.za/ http://www.geocacheshop.co.za/
  5. If that is truly your aim, then a regular is the way to go. On the listing you mention taking lunch and making a day of it. That puts you into the mindset of committing an entire morning to just one cache. That automatically will make it for locals only, tourists will want more freedom (and don't want to pack a lunch!) . Even for those locals, it doesn't look very kid friendly, so now dads and moms need to make plans to get away from the kids for an entire morning (that's a big chunk of any week end to be away from your kids). Regular is the way to go. (I will be sad, I was thinking of collecting the clues bit by bit, maybe over months or years, but would have got there in the end.)
  6. I have a similar problem: A beautiful, big, fat Puff Adder has just taken up residence at GZ of one of my caches. At the moment the grass is very long and I feel it is unsafe for anyone to visit. It will take a few months for the grass to die back in summer. Is it OK to diable it for 3-4 months? (Any other ideas how to manage the problem?)
  7. Have been using Lazarus: Form Recovery 2.0.4 for a while now and it works really well. The frustration has gone!
  8. I have a theory why I think this is definitely true: We all recognise swag items of greater value and naturally desire them. So, we look at our trade items and think to ourselves, " Hey, I have 4 items worth about a third of that item, so if I place my four items in, I have traded in more value than I have traded out." This is true, you have traded up. The cache gets more full, but the value of the items drops. The cycle continues until it is all just junk left in the cache. The junkier the swag, the easier it is to take things without trading up. The cache is finally left with a few tiny, muddy, used, frayed and worn out items. No one really has done that much wrong. I would like the guidelines to say, where possible, take out two items and leave one of greater value. The number of swag items would (HOPEFULLY!!!!) decrease but we would be left with items of greater value. Too much to ask of our fellow geocachers, I know. Just for fun I set up a cache to test out the trading issue, called The Picnic Pool Trade Experiment. Even with strict rules, the value of the items is probably only about the same, certainly not more than the original items. (PS. See my signature.......right from the start....it's what I do....)
  9. The easiest way is to use Firefox as you browser and get the add on called Write Area. R click the text box and a new box opens. You put in all the info (images, fonts, colours and when you click save, it converts the whole lot to HTML for you). No brainer
  10. I think that if you can make your grumpy log gentle, it hopefully will be construed as constructive criticism, and will do more for the game than a simple TFTC. Maybe their next cache wont be a "Lamp pole" cache if a bit of criticism is given. Do you also suffer from "Giving it back" TFTC's? You hide a cache that takes effort, cunning, research, capital input and lots of time. Most cachers take the time in their logs to acknowledge your efforts. There is always a cacher who only manages a "TFTC". Just like they have on all of your caches. They then hide a good cache. Do you give the "TFTC" log back to them?
  11. So you do the cache and you have absolutely no idea why you are being taken to the utterly boring location. There is nothing of interest, the cache listing says nothing. (OK so the hide might be a bit cheeky...but still!) Which camp do you fall into?: The camp that gives the slap in the face log......"TFTC." (Or perhaps.... "Found it"). The logic here is: well if you place a dull cache, your punishment will be dull logs, OR The grumpy log camp. Here you make a comment "that the cache is terrible" and "what were they thinking?" Hopefully this comes out as constructive criticism, but not all of us have the literary gift of the gab to keep it gentle. Which camp are you in? (I find myself doing a little of both. The more grumpy I am on the day, the more likely I am to be in camp grumpy log.) A GRUMPY LOG
  12. The plan is a 7am start... My mouth is also watering for your King's Block House cache. I'm going to try and squeeze it in on Saturday so that if I can't finish it in one day (ambitious!), I have Tuesday and Wednesday morning to attempt a completion. If you want to try King's Block House, you might want to have a little chat with one of those that have found it....and have a 3G enabled laptop with you. One of the puzzles is VERY tough without internet assistance.
  13. If you have a Windows Mobile device, there is only one app to go for! It does EVERYTHING you could want from a paperless app, including maps, logging finds, nearby searches and also functions brilliantly off-line after a GPX import. PM me.
  14. And there was I, looking for a quick solution! Trev, when do you want to come round for a cup of tea and explain all that?
  15. Would love to do this with you! I have done a few and they were great. I think the task is a big one! Some of the caches are quite significant hikes, but if you start early, you may do it. Sounds like a blast! Family commitments......
  16. I was playing around with trying to get notifications SMSed to my phone. Somewhere on the forums I was directed to this site, but I have had no joy when entering the info into the notifications set up page. I did a test and emailed the number (from my personal email account) and low and behold I did get an SMS of the test email. I just can't get GC.com emails to be turned into SMS's. I do get emailed notifications on my phone, but would like to share the SMS method with others (who don't get email on their phones) if I can get it right. Anyone else had any joy? Please share how if you have.
  17. Oh, those who don't have kids! Going to see movies! Luxury!
  18. What kind of caches do you like? Have a look at my favourites list for my opinions on which are great Cape caches.
  19. I remember it being derived from the missiles. One standing, others falling over. Something like that.
  20. It came out of protest marches against nuclear weapons in the USA. It is associated with a particular person, but I can't remember who.
  21. Like this? Amazing!!!! Love it! You read what I wanted perfecly! Will use it! I am away the moment, using my phone to post this. Thanks all involved! Great team effort. Mission accomplished.
  22. Hmmmm. I did the Pinelands Scout Amazing Race day with my family the other day. Although I had great fun, it did teach me that my 18month old gets a little tetchy sitting in the car all day. She is giving me second thoughts....but still may attend.
  23. WOW that's spot on!!!!!! I'll use that! Is one last tweak possible? Can I be so bold to ask? If the left over bit of flower could be cloned out (front left) and the geocaching colors could be put onto the sea, radiating out (following vague lines out from the mouth and beard). (Is that allowed?) Something like this: only with the colors filling the sea and blurring together, maybe a little transparant and the lines more aimed at the mouth. (See why I need the help?) If this is becoming a hassle please say so, I am really happy with result so far!
  24. All I could get my brain to come up with was this I'm not sure I am happy with it..... Just a suggestion.. but this picture of the doctor looks like clouds and wind.. so this could become the clouds over the mountain picture he provided, and blended in above it. I really like that idea! Would love to see the original of the wind doc a bit bigger. I love the effect that Puppy Dawg applied to the mountain. If we could have that mountain, foreground removed, with the doctor wind blowing over it, we would be there. Thanks so much for all the effort!!!
