  1. Try the the Frequently Asked Questions page.
  2. Funny you should mention that, as a local cacher went out to check on his cache and couldn't find it. He reworked the cache entirely, with the hide near where the old one was, and archived the original. My son and I went looking for the new one and found the old one (not realizing what he'd done). Later, I got an email from the owner asking if I could please tell him where his cache was?
  3. Thank you, Mssr Iryshe, for your response in this matter. I must agree with SnoWake and Yar?Yar! in that the design changes are wonderful. Now when are we going to be able to recommend pics for the home page? With the question answered and a fix on the way, I am closing this thread.
  4. Sounds kind of like something that might require the services of the FCC's "Find Terminal Coordinates Given a Bearing and a Distance" page...
  5. Double check to see if the connections for your batteries are snug. The little coils sometimes get compressed and don't make good contact. Using a pair of small screwdrivers, hold the base of the coil with one and stretch out the coil with the other, should this be the case. I had similar problems with my MeriGreen once, and it showed me at over 78,000 feet, and moving...
  6. Thanks for the reply. I understand why those mentioned above need to reload (to remove the date option), but why does it also reload on "Found" and "Write note"? Since the top three are the most commonly used though, wouldn't it save time and bandwidth (ie:money) all around to have them not reload the page? With 82192 logs in the last week, that translates into 165824 page views for those logs, not including any edits...
  7. I haven't noticed it mentioned anywhere else, so forgive me and send a Markwell my way if it has. I actually went caching the other day and have just now sat down to log my finds. Problem: On the "Post a New Log" page, when I click the tab to selectt the type of log (ie, Found, Not found, Write note, etc), the page reloads. This may not be a bother to those with high-speed connections, but on dial-up, it is pretty annoying. Is anyone else having this problem, and could it be related to the site design changes?
  8. Rule #1: There is no Off Topic forum Hmmmm.... Doesn't sound quite right... Shouldn't it be: "There will never be an off Topic forum!" ???
  9. Sorry. It won't happen again. My point, you will admit, is valid in that the OP needs to go geocaching.
  10. Nevermind me, I just had to get IBTL. Someone needs to get out and actually go Geocaching, IMHO.
  11. I know of two very public caches that are kinda/sorts like this. Both in Charleston, SC. There's Duck-N-Cover and Circle The Park, both by the Piston Heds . The Duck-N-Cover cache is visible from 50 feet away! Park maintenace workers seem to plunder the caches more than Joe Punlic does...
  12. I've done stuff like that before. Listed the parking coords as the cache coords, forgotten that it was 37° 07.xxx instead of 37° 06.xxx, etc. On the one that I listed the parking coords twice, the first finder knew the area pretty well and just went on a walk down the trail. The cache looks like a tree stump, and it's onlly 50 feet from the trail, so he just walked up and checked.
  13. Looks like a good location, from the first finder's viewpoint. I'll be honest, though, in that Memphis has what seems to be more homeless per capita than any other city I've been to. It's something I've brought up before. You'd think that in a city so reliant on tourist dollars, they'd clean up at least the downtown area... I hate walking from the bus station to the hotel right across the street, as I am bombarded by "Hey Mister"s... Mid-town seems pretty laid back, IMHO. We used to stay out there, and I always enjoyed walking around. In this case, good call!
  14. HAHA! I have a log that I'm particularly proud of in one instance: it's cute; and not so proud of in another, in that I went on about the cache being some 40 feet from the coords. I was a newbie and didn't know any better. The cache was one of the oldest in the area... To the OP, I notice that you are on the board. Who's board? I work for the dog, myself.
  15. My sentiments exactly. When I saw the topic title, I was thinking that you'd found one a couple feet off, but that distance is far enough for it to have been another cache. I've found one cache that was 100 feet off from the posted coordinates. I posted the coordinates I got from my receiver, and others have noted that they were more accurate, in that case. Usually, anything within 50 feet I now just chalk up to GPSr differences. Funny thing is that one stage of one of my own caches has changing numbers. I've never been able to get within 45 feet of the same numbers twice. This is one of the reasons that I set it up the way I did.
  16. I know a cacher who needs a GPSr. <Back On Topic> By all means, revisit the cache! We had one cache in the area that I hit maybe a dozen times. It was a good spot to move travel bugs.
  17. I drive for Greyhound and once 'lost' my keys whilst leaning over the toilet in the back of the bus. Thankfully, one of the mechanics was able to retrieve and clean them for me.
  18. Well, this has been an interesting read. I only have one question, CR. What is a high risk micro? One in a container like this:
  19. You actually have the nerve to say this???? LET THE TURF WARS BEGIN.... TOO LATE IT APPEARS THEY'VE ALREADY BEGUN. Yes, I have the "nerve". There is nothing wrong with that statement when taken in context. Unless a person is the hider in question then it shouldn't apply to them anyway. I was not trying to give offense, as should have been obvious. It's not a matter of 'turf'. It's a matter of FOLLOWING THE RULES; something that my children were proficient in before they attended kindergarten. The guidelines for cache placement are fairly easy to understand, and are in place for a reason. I would never place a cache 180 miles from my home, even if I visited said area regularly (as I often do in my profession). The solution is to ask a local cacher who knows the scene to place (not maintain, PLACE) a cache in the spot. I've done that myself with a couple of different placements, with mixed results. One idea was immediately adopted and a cache placed. The other was shot down for a legitimate reason, having to do with it's proximity to schools and the attitude of local law enforcement. It would have been a prime brain teaser had it been placed, but it would not have been wise to place it in that location. You can see, I would hope, that hiding a quality cache also means that you know the area and it's peculiarities, not just planting a container in a really neat spot or with a new twist on the hide. The areas that several of the caches I was talking about are hidden in are not conducive to finding them without seeming suspicious and/or drawing too much attention to the hide, else some of the locals would have already hidden caches there. I myself live 40 miles away from these hides, and would never consider placing a cache in that area, even though I pass it daily on the way to work. The hides themselves are prime. They are just in areas that they shouldn't be, and are too far for the placer to legitimately maintain them.
  20. I really wish I had the cojones to name names, but I know of an approver who listed their sock puppet account as the maintainer for their regular account's caches that were placed 180+ miles from home. Again, if we'd wanted caches in those locations, we would have hidden them there ourselves. Admittedly, though, none of them could even remotely be considered 'lame' caches...
  21. If you don't know, we're all in trouble. Oh, yeah... TEST
  22. In answer to the question: YES, it will accept the card. You may have to play around with map/region size, etc., but it will work. I'm using a 128 in mine. Check out the FAQ too, while you're at it.
  23. Dealer's Choice, then. The game is seven card stud. 3's and 9's wild, and a 4 gets you an extra card for $1. Ante up, one and all...
  24. And oh, how I want one.......... You want one, Pip? I think I can find you a clean sock somewhere down here. Hold on a minute and I'll go look...
