If it gets too boring, I hereby volunteer to place a cache just for them. Gee, I wonder if that would work and just how many one could get through a cache in a given time? I mean, if the goal were to get all of them into one cache... Sorry, lost my mind, just for a moment. To answer a previously asked question, the Jeep page does say one entry per person, per day. I've entered on two consecutive days now, and gotten the identical email from Jeep twice. Of course, this means that I'll be getting twice as much junk mail from them now... So, I would assume that it is quite alright to enter more than once. Another moment of clarity. Perhaps I should just keep the above a secret. No, No, NO! You can only enter once per drawing! Yeah, that's the ticket! If I win, I also solemnly swear, aver, or affirm to paint my new Jeep the brightest yellow I can find. Maybe something from House of Kolor?

Way Cool! I'm in the top 2th! Even cooler, I know 3 of the top 25, according to that earlier posted website. I, for one, like the idea of stat's that everyone can read. Of course, I may be the odd one out. Perhaps an 'Opt-in' arrangement as per a previous post would be best, though, since there are those who wouldn't necessarily want their user name affixed to #17,895. lol We've held event caches for Show Me The Cache when he hit 1,000 and 2,000 respectively. Not that he needs veneration, he's just such a nice guy that we all wanted to be there to show our respect for his achievements and to congratulate him. We'll probably have another when he hits 3,000 just to let the Geo-widows commiserate with Marcia and to tell stories and enjoy the fellowship of our lunatic bunch.

Yah, the "Fusion" works pretty well. I use it as a primer coat for the "Ultra Flat" camo paint. I get both at Wal Mart. Of course, it seems that they are getting rid of the camo now that hunting season is over. Picked up a couple of cans for $1.97 each!

Let me be the first to welcome you to your new addiction... At least that's the way my wife looks at it. There have been times when I was inadvertently spotted that I actually turned the person on to caching by explaining what I was doing. Normally I'll just walk on if it looks like too many people are around. I think the primary reason for stealth has just got to be that we don't want the cache stolen or destroyed. I did run across a cache log down in SC that was interesting in this regard (re: Non cachers finding a cache). The person who found it was incarcerated at the time they found the cache. Yep, a crew from the local jail was doing cleanup in the park and he found it. He was nice enough to actually follow the rules and even traded items! (although one of his trade items was a condom)

I've thought about something like that, but why? The Meridian gets a signal darned near everywhere. Right now I'm in the basement, and I'm still picking up two satellites... Makes me wonder about those "sky was overcast, so we couldn't get a good signal" and "had to switch to satellite mode" (whatever that is) logs ...

Congratulations and welcome to the insanity! Suprised that no one has replied to this one yet. The way I do it is: Hit 'Menu' from any main screen, scroll down to 'Database', hit 'Enter' (nearest to, user) to locate the waypoint. Once the waypoint is higlighted, then hit 'Menu' and the edit/delete waypoint menu will pop up. Hope that helps.

I always carry my Silva Ranger with me when I'm in the field. That and a good Topo map will get me back to the truck should both my GPSR's decide to go belly up or the batteries die. I frequently stop and take a bearing just so I don't have to hold the GPSr's while trying to get my fat rearend up and down these hills. The first thing I taught my son to do was how to shoot an azimuth; then we talked about editing waypoints.

Just put out a cache today and did some checking on my other cache. Got home to post that I'd checked it, and ALL the logs are missing! I'm pretty sure I didn't do anything to the page to delete the logs. I even tried logging out and viewing the page that way. No dice. Anybody know what happened???? GCHH6F

We had an local event where everyone brought a trade item. The person who hosted the event brought the container. One lucky person walked away with a ready-made cache! We also had a handful of Geocaching stickers which were given away as door prizes. Those two-tear raffle tickets are available in rolls for cheap at party or craft stores, should you decide to give away door prizes. Oh, and don't forget the name tags!

After reading the preceding four pages of posts, I have to wonder that so few have remarked about how cluttered the page looks? Loss of functionality aside, I really don't like the appearance. A sea of links takes much longer to navigate. The eye is drawn to the blank spots on the page. Of course, if the background frame were redone, it could free up space on the page. With the current "Geocaching" frame, a quarter or more of the page is used, and the only thing on it that's useful is the navigation table on the left side. I really don't like the fact that I cannot view all logs anymore! Additional mouse clicks and pages loaded (I'm using dial-up here!) The logs on the quick view page also need to be single line as before. I frequently view all my old logs for various reasons. I do like the 'Inventory' versus the old TB list. Having the date that membership will expire is neat, too. Perhaps a future update could add more functionality to the calendar re: events, etc.? All told, I DO appreciate the effort put in. Thank you. I think that the best way to make everyone happy (yeah, right) is to have these pages configurable by the end user. A setup similar to the way the 'My eBay' or 'My Yahoo' pages are done would be great. Put actual defined tabs (per my ebay) to navigate between the various sections.

Can't remember when, but I've had several server stack or full, or runtime, or unhandled exception, or deadlock (wasn't that the name of a movie?) errors recently. Not enough to be a problem, just enough to notice. On the spyware front, try SPYBOT Search and Destroy. It works well, too. Also recommend getting the free version of ZoneAlarm

Huh... I always use my compass when caching. I'll stop, take a bearing, and walk to the location. Many times, I've found the cache while the GPS'rs were still 'settling down'. In answer to the above question about how to use a compass and GPS'r, let me expand just a little. You'll need to go through the screens on your GPS'r until you see Bearing. This is the direction you need to head to get to the target (heading is the direction you are going). Take the compass and turn the ring until the number you need lines up with the arrow on the base of the compass. Then turn the entire compass until the needle moves around and lines up with "N" on the ring. The arrow on the base of the compass will now be pointing in the direction you need to go. Having a lensatic style compass comes in handy at this point, but no need to get into that here. Always carry a compass and know the direction back to the truck. That way, when your batteries fail you can still get home. Wally World now has a couple of compasses from Silva! Get the one with the lid and mirror.

Whew! This topic quickly got away from the subject, didn't it? I still prefer my Meridian over my eTrex for a number of reasons. The Meridian is easier to operate, IMHO. It also has more features for the same amount of money, including a bigger screen, upgradable memory, bigger buttons for my fat fingers... Don't get me wrong, the eTrex is a handy unit to have since it fits comfortably in a shirt pocket, but that's about the only thing I really like about it is it's size (& weight). My eTrex drops out on me all the time under moderate cover, or if the unit is upside down (hanging around my neck). It does seem to acquire a signal more rapidly than the Merigreen, though. You will note that with Garmin's latest offering, they went with Magellan style controls... Money being no object, I'd drop my pair of receivers for that 60c. Recommendations? Whatever you can afford, minus about 20-60 dollars for a good compass. Take the time to research which features you think you might need. While a cable, etc. isn't necesary right now, you'd be surprised how quickly it can become so. Think about what your future needs might be before you plunk down that cold hard cash. Also, I'd recommend that you try to try out the model(s) you like before you spend the money on them. Check with your local cachers and see what they use. Perhaps they'll sell you their old one when they upgrade!

I just did an urban one yesterday that required driving since you'd likely get killed trying to walk it. Besides, why walk when you can drive. Seriously, though, I think that really long distances between stages should be made into separate caches most of the time. We have one in my area that requires a minimum of 125 miles of driving to complete, but it's a really neat cache which covers a lot of history (as well as territory). Too close together is a problem as well. Another area cache's logs read 'didn't find the second stage' or 'didn't realize this was a three stage cache' because the cache owner place the 2nd and 3rd points only 40 feet from each other.

Here I was all set to point out Nashville, TN, but their 100 mile count is 'only' 1142. I would think they might have a record for the 5 mile radius, though. Searching from zip 37201, I came up with the following: 100 miles - 1142 or .036 per square mile 50 miles - 866 or .11 per square mile 20 miles - 615 or .49 per square mile 10 miles - 315 or 1 per square mile 5 miles - 146 or 2 per square mile (Area = pi x radius squared) Nashville is where fullct found 238 caches in 24 hours, though. In contrast, my zip (40175) has 1341 within 100 miles, but only 11 within 5 miles

Almost said something about getting a Magellan there... I've got an eTrex and a Meridian. For an eTrex under any type of cover, I don't expect much better than 30 ft accuracy. Tell the truth, when I get within about 30-50 feet of a cache, I don't even look at the recievers much anymore. Probably not much help, I know. Hey! How about you splurge and get a 60c?! Then you can let the kids have the Vista to play with. Now, just how do I turn off WAAS again?

I just make certain that the first thing I do when I get online is check new caches. I have a link in the toolbars directly to the new hides for my state. I'm not always FTF in my area, but I've found a couple (something like 17 or 18) in my 155 finds.

I've taken a cache or parts of it by accident and intentionally several times. Aforementioned muggles being the primary concern when doing it intentionally. Once, on vacation in SC, I took the camera out of a cache and put it in my pocket while we were signing the log, etc. . 15 miles down the road, I reach into my pocket to get something and whoops! 'Umm, Dad, we need to go back.' . Once, I took the cache back to the truck to sign the log, and lost the lid. Since that was all that was holding it in place (35mm fim can), I had to take the entire thing home while I painted a lid to match the environs... Fortunately, it wasn't far.

We've got one in Elizabethtown ,KY GCH40Z that's neat. Hider used a double birdhouse (available at Michael's craft store) and the top part is still usable for birds...

Every time I read this log, I get tickled. Sometimes, I amaze myself. (of course, looking back, you can tell how much of a newbie I was, too) The couple in question had a pair of friends in the parking lot who called ahead to let them know to get dressed, so I missed almost everything.
