  1. Nor will the preinstalled maps if they are store in gmapprom.img Only gmapsupp.img is overwritten.
  2. Colorado was introduced January 2008 Oregon July 2008 So only 6 months between two version of GPS from Garmin
  3. Garmin Mobile XT do let you use POI files and GPX file directly on the Cell Phone. You do not need a GPS in it, but if you have you have all in one. Using the Nüvi macro and you get all information of your cache in your phone.
  4. This thread is about DVD vs Preprogrammed Card, not about locked and not loced card. Using a preprogrammed SD card do not prevent the GPS to log track. Only if you make the card read only (micro SD can not be set to read only with jumper, only standard SD) But If you are going to add more data to the card, do take backup of the map file, so if you delete it by accident, you can restore it. Using a DVD is still far better then using a preprogrammed card.
  5. Use google to find answer on "60CSx vs colorado" eks: http://garmincolorado.wikispaces.com/Colorado+vs+60csx
  6. Nüvi seems to have a limit to around 3850 More info her: http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=83384 According to this page, Colrodado do have 4000-5000 segments: http://garmincolorado.wikispaces.com/Colorado+vs+60csx There is a way around the limitation, more info her: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=170615
  7. (This is some off topic) I do not use GPX for geochace for two reason. 1. Only 2000 cache 2. Do only work on Colorado/Oregon So I do use the Nüvi macro and convert all GPX POI to POI gpi files. No limit on number of cache. The only thing I can not do, compare to GPX geocache is to mark a cache as found. (may be more, but not that I do remember)
  8. All GPS I have tested (Colorado, 60CSx, Nüvi 660, 760) do all wrok with 8GB, and my guess is that they also will work with 16GB and 32GB. Nüvi and Colorado/Oregon do support 4GB img file. 60CSx do support 2GB. You can do what I do Have this file in my GPS gmapsupp.img-us gmapsupp.img-eu gmapsupp.img-topo Then I take the SD (micro) card in to my cell phone and rename the needed file to gmapsupp.img
  9. I do agree, and not only Topo, but other maps that are not locked. But this thread is about SD card with map on and DVD, and the map preloaded on SD card are always locked. (Edited my original post)
  10. DVD vs SD card FAQ CD/DVD + You can install software in as many pc you like + Easy to take a copy of the software. (Copy of the key is stored at Garmin) + You can plan a trip ahead, study the map on PC with a big screen. + You can mix other maps and send to GPS + Maps can be stored on GPS or SD card (most GPS do support 8GB) - Can be used in one GSP only if the map are locked with a key, like City Navigator (you need to buy a new copy for next GPS) SD Card (with preinstalled maps) + Can be used in many GPS (but only one at a time) - Not possible to take backup of the map - If you loose the card or brake it, you need to order a new - You can not plan trip on PC - Cannot be combined with other maps on the SD Card (You can move the img file to GPS internal memory, but maps will not work if SD card is removed) Conclusion Do not order SD card with maps, get DVD, since the flexibility is so much greater.
  11. Do not buy maps that delivered on SD card. 1. If you loose or break the card you have to order a new one. 2. You can not take backup of it. (maps are locked to that one card) 3. You need the card in the GPS (you can copy the maps to internal memory, but you still need the SD card in GPS to unlock the maps) 4. You can not plan and view maps on PC (No MapSource version) The only + is that you can use the SD card on other GPS, but not on the same time, since you need to move the card. I would say that it's much better to order a DVD
  12. Garmin has newer added anything from any wish list on any site or list posted to them. They may have added some of it to new units. So I would say that wish list is wasted time. If any can prove me wrong, I do accept that. (have had Garmin from 76S and eTrex yellow) But we can always dream that this will change.
  13. Hi Thanks for this nice macro. I have used it my Nuvi and on Colorado (long before this was an option) Can you pilotsnipes write on your homepage why we have to choose different GPS in FAQ. I do not like to read trough 17 pages with 50 post on each to find the answer on some that would be nice to to know for all. Tip: Since Nüvi do not show Custom POI on the map, there is a way around this. You can download GPSMapEdit for free here: http://www.geopainting.com/en/ Then you can use the GPX file with the POI and make a transparent map that you can put on top of City Navigator. (You should still keep the POI on the Nüvi, since it can contain much more info)
  14. I do not remember, but it can have a lot of information pr POI.
  15. I have a Colorado and do not use the Geocache feature this way. I do use the Nüvi Maco discussed here on the forum. This way I can add millions of cache to the Colorado/Oregon/Nüvi and do get all info I do need. Cache info / hints / logs etc. Only minus is that you can not mark the cache as found.
  16. I do agree that you can not have the map viewed correctly while zooming out so you see the earth, but while zooming in, this could have been more and more corrected. That Garmin has set their HQ as the reference is for me a joke.
  17. What do you mean, for me its wrong at all zoom level.
  18. Try to compare a Topo map using 6.13 6.14 and 6.15, you will see that 6.13 is much faster than 6.15
  19. The two mayor bad thing with 6.14.1 has not been fixed. Slow screen draw speed compare to 6.13 and bad aspect ration. Maps are still to wide. Look at picture. Do NOT upgrade from 6.13.x to 6.15.3 (Mail already sent Garmin tech support)
  20. Changes made from version 6.14.1 to 6.15.3: Fixed an issue where blank map tiles are left on the screen. Fixed an issue with redrawing the map after a detail level change. Enhanced the drawing of roads to better distinguish primary from secondary roads. Added the ability to adjust symbol size of icons. Fixed the display of spot soundings in Marine maps. Fixed an issue with areas getting highlighted inadvertently. Fixed 'Move Waypoint', 'Insert Route Section', and 'Extend Route' capabilities from right-click context menus. Fixed an issue with water regions getting clipped. Limited 'Nearest Features' to only displayed maps. Fixed overlapping copyright information for certain maps. Fixed the display of certain Marine icons in the 'Find Nearest Places' dialog. Fixed an issue with improper amenities getting displayed for 'Exit Properties' Modified the color used for bathymetric lines. Enhanced the look of dashed and dotted lines. Enhanced sizes of certain labels. Enhanced the look of road shield icons. Fixed an issue when using certain find operations. Fixed an issue where changing the font would result in no labels being displayed. Fixed an issue with using the Roads & Rec 2.1 Hawaii and Alaska product
  21. Double post after an SQL error on Groundspeak.
  22. Strange that Garmin do change the color of the maps dispalyed. Why not just make an option, so the user can slect it them self.
  23. Send an email like I did to Garmin and see what they do reply.
  24. Just to make sure not to confuse, the GPS will show correct position. Problem is the map for China that will show an offset error if you do not have a GPS bough in China with a spesial firmware that do correct this error (on Garmin GPS)
