  1. 1000 piece Candy Cane Puzzle

Camara so I can take pictures of my travels on the geobike

    Lots of money for college

Root Beer bottle for my collection

    New cycling socks

    Candy

You collect root beer bottles? Do you drink them, or leave them full?? You may have given birth to a new idea for another MiniGame??

Most of them are older so the root beer is long gone. I do have a few that still have root beer in them.

  2. OK....NEXT COINTEST!

Wanting to get the word out to non-cachers, we have a mission for you all! This won't be simple, it won't be quick, it WILL take some effort on the winner's part and you will need to be willing to follow through! DO NOT post an idea unless you are willing to take it to the end!

    YOUR MISSION:

Think up, plan out and give a bike awareness presentation. At a high school so you reach young drivers, at an elemetary school to tell of the need for helmets, any kind of public gathering where you can spread bike awareness of some kind! Maybe even a geocaching event where you include the presentation. You must think it up, post your ideas here and then we will choose which one we think can be carried out and will get out the best message! Like I said, it won't be easy, you'll have to be dedicated to earn this prize!

    THE PRIZE:

Two coins...a 2007 LACKEY and a coin of my choosing (believe me, if this goes the way I'm hoping, the second coin will be as good as the LACKEY). The better the idea, the better the second coin!

    THE RULES:

One post per day, one idea per post. DO NOT POST an idea you don't plan to follow through on! Best idea wins, I have final say! Make it as fun, as enjoyable as you want, just make sure to raise bike awareness of some kind!

You will be required to get pictures of the group you give your presentation to, you will need to be able to verify you follow through on your idea! Let's get the word out people, this is important to me and should be important to everyone else...it is our lives after all. A careless driver could as easily kill a person in a car as anyone else, remember that!

This cointest goes for a few weeks to a month depending on how I feel it's going, you will have plenty of time to follow through, but you do need to outline your timeline in your post!

    Let's hear your ideas!

I've gotten an Idea. So I'm taking the writting for business class in school. Our next project is to either create an autobiography for why the class should hire me or create a business and convince the class to invest in my company. So I thought why not create business that involves helmets and bikes. I have to create a Power Point as well.

Please shoot me the details on this, my friend, I like where you're going though!! This sounds like a very good idea! Maybe make part of the presentation the PP about helmets that you sent me and also outline more safety concerns??

Well done, it'll help spread the word as well as be good for your grades!! I'm liking it!

This doesn't mean this is the winner, nor does it mean anyone else should stop working on any plans they might be working on (I do hope others are still working on this project btw)...and there is always chance there'll be more than one winner, so GET YOUR IDEAS IN!!!

I'll get you the full details sometime this week because the teacher hasn't givin us any paperwork yet.

  4. So this past summer I participated in my first true bike race. It was a 92 miler around Lake Winnebago. We were nearing the halfway mark when people ahead of me started to fall to the ground. I attempted to swerve and miss it but instead was sent into the curb. Luckly everyone was required to where helmets so there weren't any head injuries. I learned not to be in the back of the peloton.

  5. Maine law: Maine's bicycle helmet law requires bicyclists under the age of 16 to wear a helmet.

Now that should be national law. Maybe more children would survive then.

    mapofus.gif

Green are state laws requiring helmets

    Red Local laws

    White No Laws

In 2006, 773 bicyclists were killed and an additional 44,000 were injured in traffic crashes. Children 14 and younger accounted for 98 of those fatalities (13%), making this one of the most frequent causes of injury related death for young children.

Every dollar spent on bicycle helmets saves society $30 in indirect medical costs and other costs.

Your blanket statement about Pennsylvania is wrong. The following is the helmet law in Pennsylvania:

§ 3525. Protective equipment for motorcycle riders

    (a) PROTECTIVE HEADGEAR.-- Except as provided in subsection (d), no person shall operate or ride upon a motorcycle or a motor-driven cycle (other than a motorized pedalcycle) unless he is wearing protective headgear which complies with standards established by the department.

( EYE-PROTECTIVE DEVICES.-- No person shall operate or ride upon a motorcycle (other than a motorized pedalcycle or a three-wheeled motorcycle equipped with an enclosed cab) unless he is wearing an eye-protective device of a type approved by the department.

© APPROVAL OF EQUIPMENT.-- The department may approve or disapprove protective headgear and eye-protective devices required under this section and may issue and enforce regulations establishing standards and specifications for the approval of the headgear and devices. The department shall publish lists of all protective headgear and eye-protective devices by name and type which have been approved.

    (d) EXCEPTION.-- The provisions of subsection (a) shall not apply to the following:

    (1) The operator or any occupant of a three-wheeled motorcycle equipped

    with an enclosed cab.

    (2) A person 21 years of age or older who has been licensed to operate

a motorcycle for not less than two full calendar years.

    (3) A person 21 years of age or older who has completed a motorcycle

rider safety course approved by the department or the Motorcycle Safety

    Foundation.

    (4) The passenger of a person exempt under this subsection if the

passenger is 21 years of age or older.

Your confusing a bicycle with a motorcycle. There is a law requiring the use of helmet in PA and that is below.

Section 3510. Pedalcycle helmets for certain persons.

    (a) General rule.-- A person under 12 years of age shall not operate a pedalcycle or ride as a passenger on a pedalcycle unless the person is wearing a pedalcycle helmet meeting the standards of the AmericanStandards Institute, the American Society for Testing and Materials, the Snell Memorial Foundation's Standards for Protective Headgear for Use in Bicycling or any other nationally recognized standard for pedalcycle helmet approval. This subsection shall also apply to a person who rides:

    (1) upon a pedalcycle while in a restraining seat attached to a pedalcycle; or

    (2) in a trailer towed by a pedalcycle.

  6. There are some Bike Geocoins that will be coming out soon, from a few different people. Keep an eye out for them in Caches, and get them moving along. It's been a while since I've done any cycling, but I used to be quite active. I'm almost ready to give up my car, and go back to it. Are any Cachers using a Bicycle as primary transportation when Caching?

Yup! This summer I used the car only one weekend the rest of it I found caches by biking to them. The farthest I went in one day was just shy of 100 miles. I managed to find close to 20 that day. Overall if I had to pick a number of miles I did this past summer on my geobike I'd say I was close to 1500 miles traveled.

If I counted correctly I found 220 caches on my bike this past summer.

  8. Virginia

Violation of state traffic laws is considered a traffic infraction and is punishable by a fine of not more than $100 unless other specific penalty provisions apply

So if going over the speed limit is one of the laws I'd be in the hole big time. Lets see I've only gone 30mph in a 15mph how many times. To many to count.

ZB, my friend, if you made up a powerpoint with this stat and the others I know you can come up with (like the other informative post you provided us a few up), you'd be halfway to getting yourself a beautiful LACKEY coin!!! I have every bit of confidence in you, my friend, give it some thought, look up some more great facts, put in plenty of illustrations and stats and you'll wow them!!

I've got more facts because I just stumbled apon a website that's full of them. I know I can make the PP but I've got to get over the nerves to present the info.
