  1. Numbers is good thing sometimes ... but I feel quality has lacked...... In the good ol days you would be happy toi get 10 for a good day out and travel many miles to do so. Have to admit setting a trail recently with micros and mixture of normal caches and seems well recieved.... but its not like the old days where you would drive 30 miles for your nearest and do a massive multi in a fab walk and be happy to take that home. I did a new Dan cache recently just to remind me of the Old skool way of caching, and have to say it was a pleasant relief from those numbers, caching should be about quality, but I suppose with its populatity its sadly gone the numbers way, as means of being a sport as opposed to a hobby.

  2. We got challenged by a man, whilst doing that series a while back, and suspect it may be the same cache! He basically said the same thing, and he jumped from behind the hedge out of nowhere as if he was laying in wait for the next geocacher to come along! the cache at the time was hidden in a road sign on the verge near a farm gate. We managed to appease the grumpy old git - must be my lady charms : ) and contacted Dr Solly via e-mail. He promptly moved the cache I believe a bit further down the road. I bet it was the same bloke!

Given the amount of visitors these caches get, he is bound to strike lucky on some geocaching victims every now and again. He also approached my sister when she was doing it, on a completly separate occasion - so you are not alone :(

  3. Theres some fantastic caches over there... The Ledge is a long walk - but well worth it for it's location... also the Vectis series a a fantastic challenge. The beautiful beaches are worth doing as well. I really enjoyed the pepperpot as well.. we did it at sunset and had some amazing views. Oooooooh theres lots!

    You will have fun!

  4. Blimey Ian .. they are a bit tentist round that area.. think you need to buy a caravan

Nearest I could find is here... and seems quite cheap.... depends if you like horses though!

    Beachcomber

I dunno how far away that will be for you though?

Just thought I'd help whilst bored at work!

  5. We were over there last year with Mad h@ter and Muddy legs, and we bumped into Slow Loris whilst doing a cache. He was on a family bike ride with his children and muggled us! It turned out he had actually seen us the day before at completley separate cache location as well!

We got his phone number and he was a good PAF for a tricky micro the very next day!

Hope you have a great time, there are some brilliant caches to be found, with lovely views.

  6. we would love to see them kept on.. we did a loop last weekend, and hope to do another this weekend.. the hides were fab, many were nice size boxes, and we met some lovely cachers on our travels all doing this great series..... it will be a series well missed if they go... we had a an hour or so drive to do them and glad we did, beautiful countryside setting. Please dont archive! To us this was true caching, park the car and have a lovely rewarding long walk.

  7. I just cut my losses and started all over again :D

It's been fun re-visiting caches that I had previously done yonks ago... this was mainly due to my O/H wanting to do the caches himself though.. suppose if there is no one else involved it would be a bit dissapointing to lose all your finds!

Well here's my tuppence worth...... We/I are in a similar situation..... I (Nat) was once part of The Ollies, but as in your situation, have since become teamtan and set up my new user account with my partner. I have no reserves in logging any previous finds, plus ones we set as The Ollies, as to be fair my partner has not done these caches, and I am actually enjoying going back and doing caches done many many moons ago. We never cheat, or go straight to finals of multis, we do them all as the cache onwers intended.

I did wonder at the start whether to carry my previous finds over as many do, but then that would have meant Ant would never have got to see or enjoy the caches so near to home.

A lot of the older caches I found, I have problems remembering where they are anyway, so it seems as though it's the first time, what with finding in different seasons etc.

At the end of the day, I think all caches are there to be found, and if you go and sign the log as you say you want to - then claim it and it will be one more of your finds done on your new account, otherwise it will sit there as a find to get...... :)

We are now on 700 instead of the near 2000 odd that I accrued with the Ollies but have satisfaction of knowing all our logs are legitimate......

    Nat.
