  1. It would be bad if the batteries in the camera went dead if it sat in a cache a long time. With a film disposable camera, it does not depend on battery power so it can sit in a cache for quite a long time and still work. This digital camera is a good idea but I am sure it cost more than $11 to make these cameras. As long as people do return them and they can make a profit it just might work. It will only be available in 14 U.S. cities which I am sure are test markets to see if they really want to go nation wide. It would be bad though if you did get one and put it in a cache and then a little while later it goes under and you have no way of getting the pictures off.
  2. A film disposable camera is going to give you better quality than a cheap 2megapixel Digital Camera. They are smoking saying it is enough to make 8x10 photos. I have a Nikon CoolPix 5000 5 megapixel camera and it bearly makes the mark on 8x10 photos.
  3. You can find these in many magic shops. It is used for a very popular magic trick called "Scotch and Soda" quote:Originally posted by sept1c_tank:another good one from the same page.

  5. There are lots of Pay Pal haters out there. Personally I have used Pay Pal for 4 years on over 500 transactions and never had a problem with them. Once somebody did use a stolen credit card to pay for something and I was able to call them up and resolve it. I did loose the money but I have also lost over $5,000 using my normal credit card processing merchant account because of credit card fraud. Most of the people that hate Pay Pal were burned by somebody using a stolen credit card and they lost money. They think it is the restorability of Pay Pal because they 'accepted' the use of the stolen credit card. Anybody who has their own merchant account to process credit cards knows that the company/person who is accepting a credit card takes the risk of accepting any credit card. Merchant Accounts/Pay Pal provides tools to help prevent credit card fraud (AVS verification, etc.) but it is your responsibility if you accept a credit card and it is stolen. www.paypalsucks.com and www.paypalwarning.com are totally one sided (along with all the other -------sucks.com websites) and do not give a realistic picture. BTW I don't think anybody donating money to use for the plaque are going to use stolen credit cards. You will find out that more people will donate money if there is an easy to do it online and Pay Pal is one of them. quote:Originally posted by TEAM 360:Sorry guys, no Pay Pal account, not after reading THIS online: 1. Their customer service is horrible. They hide their telephone number, (intentionally - by their own admission) and only provide support via "form" emails: As for the customer service, Sollitto said they intentionally make the phone number very difficult to find in order to save costs."
  6. Did somebody say Vespa Scooters? Here are some photos of mine http://www.brighamsbees.org/richardsvespa/ and here is our Scooter Club http://www.brighamsbees.org quote:Originally posted by Criminal:I?m not being critical or anything, but what does this have to do with geocaching or Vespa Scooters? I?m just not seeing the connection. http://fp1.centurytel.net/Criminal_Page/
  7. This would work if the system just displayed the original file that you uploaded. The system on geocaching.com runs the file through a script/program that resizes it to 75 pixels across (even if the original graphic is already 75 pixels) and then sharpens it (and I think it sharpens it a little to much). Because of this, it is impossible to use a GIF for your avatar. quote:Originally posted by Kanto:My friend, who I'll email about it, managed somehow (memory is fuzzy on this), to make the computer think an animation was a jpg...and thereby doing what you proposed, an avatar with an animation. Maybe geocaching.com has a more full-proof system than that other site where my friend made that work.
  8. <- An avatar is under your name on the left side. I thought your graphic was just part of your signature since it was in the main body of your messages. quote:Originally posted by Warm Fuzzies - Fuzzy:So, uh, what's the deal, the little hairy guy in my signature doesn't count as an avatar so I don't get to play? I posted on the first page of this thread, but I'm not in Marky's gallery. http://parkrrrr.com/pirate.cgi.gif
  9. Yes, a GPS will usually put you right on top of it or around it (but finding it is another story) but I think that real challenge is just getting there. I personally like caches where the terrain is hard (on top of a peak) and the cache is easy to find once you are there.
  10. There is nothing wrong with TNLN. The cache is in the same condition as when they found it. Sure they could leave something if they wanted to try and improve it but it is fine to leave a cache the same way you found it if you like to play the game that way. What is wrong though is when people leave junk in a cache. Sometimes I see some trades and wish the person did a TNLN. I personally always leave something behind but lately I find myself never taking anything. Just recently though I had to do a TNLN because I lost a new travel bug I made on the way to a 30 mile round trip cache. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=7638
  11. I have a cache that is in the bushes at my work. I was going to put up a webcam with a motion sensor and take pictures of people. I still thinking about it but we are moving at the end of the year and I am not sure If I want to go through all the trouble of mounting it outside.
  12. You get my vote! quote:Originally posted by familyO'foxes:I had to re-create since I couldn't find the original.
  13. Here is mine And if I get lucky and win I would use this so it would be easier to carve. [This message was edited by DapperDanMan on July 24, 2003 at 07:49 PM.]
  14. I have found a few caches on a Jet Ski and have hidden two caches last month on one. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=73376 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=73378
  15. The Person above is me is losing their shorts.
  16. Usually I like to put in a full size car battery if the cache is big enough. You never know when your car battery might go dead.
  17. Other sites may start but I think it would be very hard to make it more popular than this site. Usually the first site that has a strong following will win. Look at www.ebay.com - It was pretty much the first auction site and dominates the online auction market. The same with geocaching.com - When I want to search for caches in one area, I don't want to have to go to multiple sites and combine them all together. I want all the info from one site and that one site right now is geocaching.com - plus there are a lot of caches out there right now that say "www.geocaching.com". This site is here to stay and if geocaching is as popular 10 years from now as it is today, I feel this will still be the site that people will come to for their geocaching needs. Jeremy has put a lot of work into this site and I am sure that it is finally starting to pay off a little for him and there is nothing wrong with that.
  18. That is because I can get more stuff. The stuff is labeled 2 for a $1 or $1 each. The person below me should be Jeremy to close this thread because I am sick of seeing it.
  19. www.microsoft.com Maybe not now but they always get their fingers in everything.
  20. I remebering doing that also when I was a scout. quote:Originally posted by Searching_ut:Back when I was a kid, we would just coil a piece of cardboard, stick it in a tuna can and fill the can with wax. Worked great, and was probably safer and easier than alcohol.
  21. This happened to me today. My GPS was pointing to the top of a peak and when I was arriving near the top I was about to get my GPS out to find the final spot but then I saw I black container. In the container were a log book and a pencil. There was no "Geo Caching" paper but I have found caches in the past that did not have the paper so this did not send a red flag. The container ended up being the "Official Log Book" for the peak and had nothing to do with Geo Caching. I thought I found the Geo Cache but when I was about to log the find and reading other comments, I realized I signed the wrong log. The Geo Cache I was supposed to find was about 200 feet west. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?id=29074 Has anybody else had a similar experience?
  22. This was taken at Lake Powell - It is really close to where I hid a cache http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=73376 I like to play with photography but my brother is a professional landscape photographer. Here are some more shots of lake powell from my brothers site. quote:http://img.Groundspeak.com/cache/73376_400.jpg Edit: Where were these taken? That last one looks surreal...

  24. You could also cap it where the max would be something like $300 if it hit that mark.
