Instant replay? Have been waiting for 2 1/2 hours for delivery of PQ's that ran. Seems to be a recurring problem...sure glad I'm not paying for...oh, that's right, I am paying...for nothing!

One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet is the possibility that another program (like HotSync) is grabbing the COM port at boot up.
Problem solved! Bit the bullet and resigned myself to the fact that I may have received a new defective cable. Found pinout diagrams for eTrex and DB9 connectors and wiring. Found no continuity between them for the Output. The cable I purchased also has car power adapter built in. Where the 2 wires come together, inside the cig lighter plug, they were sealed with heat shrink but not connected inside the heat shrink! Soldered, reinsulated, reassembled, hooked up to PC and voila, instant response. Downloaded 10 cache waypoints for tomorrows attempt at my first "find".
As noted, cable has external power adapter built in. Have read warnings of overvoltage output with some of these. While the meter was handy I checked it in the car and I am getting 3.3V, thankfully.
Thanks for all of the suggestions.
Happy navigating, Jim

OK lets try another program just to see that it's not a hardware (cable) problem. GPSTrackMaker (link) is freeware so download and install it. From the menu select GPS=>Garmin Interface then "Product ID". If you're hooked up correctly with a good cable it should tell you what GPS you have.
No response from unit to the program. Guess I have to break out the meter and check the cable. Thanks.

Which browser do you use? It only works with Internet Explorer for me.Downloaded and installed Garmin GPS plugin. Downloaded and installed easyGPS. Clicking the send to GPS icon next to a cache results in popup asking me to click to download to GPS-always results in device not found.
Check the interface setting on your eTrex under setup. It should be set to Garmin.Using checkbox next to cache and clicking download (at bottom of page) sends all necessary data to easyGPS program. Attempting to download to unit from easyGPS results in no data received from unit error. I have configured the eTrex unit as instructed and have verified that easyGPS and PC com port settings are set alike.IE6 browser. "Garmin" is selected in eTrex setup.
I'm still not giving up. Working on it as I await replies. Thanks.

New to caching. Just bought serial cable. Downloaded and installed Garmin GPS plugin. Downloaded and installed easyGPS. Clicking the send to GPS icon next to a cache results in popup asking me to click to download to GPS-always results in device not found. Using checkbox next to cache and clicking download (at bottom of page) sends all necessary data to easyGPS program. Attempting to download to unit from easyGPS results in no data received from unit error. I have configured the eTrex unit as instructed and have verified that easyGPS and PC com port settings are set alike. Any ideas? Any and all input greatly appreciated. Thanks
