  1. I felt the same way and still, I do. I have long since given up trying to analyze the gifts that people leave, but I still enjoy looking at them; when I am not hurried, I will often read through the physical log, sometimes learning the identity of those cache garbage sprayers. Yes, what you may leave in a cache is arguably a part of yourself. So is what you take significantly a sign of yourself. I wouldn’t have it any other way. The ingredients of a cache, like the log, are a reflection of those who have visited it, and greater yet, a mirror of society. Trying to cleanse or upgrade the items in a cache is as futile as attempting to cleanse our society, or to rewrite history. It may not be pretty but it is reality and we must learn to live with that. BTW, mostly I do not trade anymore. What does that tell you about me?
  2. It's been about 18 months since anyone found Lipstick Beach (last found five days after your's was last found).
  3. While caching with a friend who is very talented at thinking out of the box, I discovered a cache hidden in a birdhouse. I backed off and let him search for twenty or thirty minutes before he leaned against the tree suporting the birdhouse and indicated he was spent. Only then did I tell him he was very warm so he looked at the birdhouse and touching it, he said they wouldn't put it in here would they (he is a birder, too)? Only a few days later we were caching again and this time he found the cache (a different one) before me. So I looked and looked, and finally leaning against a tree, I gave up. The cache was in a hollow log attached realistically to the tree about 6 inches from my head!
  4. Congrats, StarBrand. I'm coming up on three years now. I've discovered some really cool places, people and ideas through geocaching, but most of all, this hobby got me involved with computers; before geocaching, I didn't even know how to send an email.
  5. I like this one...not sure why!
  6. Let's see...yes, in my fantasy, too, there is a dirty old native!
  7. From Where Do Your Puzzles Come?, is a topic that may help. I'm really beginning to like puzzles, so I'll watching this topic. (I'll sure be glad when the search feature is restored; I had to look through ten pages of index to locate my own topic!)
  8. I’m trudging on and on, in a strange land never before visited by my people, exploring the unusual and sometimes dangerous countryside. There are signs of native inhabitants and I have found some clues that are leading me to something precious they have hidden, a thing that will help to explain their existence and mysterious lifestyle. I will find it. And I will return home as a hero with great, renewed knowledge for my people. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ That’s my main fantasy when I’m geocaching; it changes often according to the location and my company. When I’m urban caching, ~~~~~~~~~~~~ I am an agent of a country at war. I am seeking a secret item hidden by another agent of my own country; finding it is vital if my country is to win the war, but enemies are seeking it too, and they are all around me. I must find it and remain undetected, or all is for naught. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ What are your geocaching fantasies?
  9. Of course, that would likely result in an abearration.
  10. Especially if you lose your bearings; then you will usually find a kodiak moment.
  11. Although geocaching is not a secret society, I believe that many of the players fantasize that it is. Just by reading the associated forums and logs of caches, it is apparent that many of us (geocachers) even believe that the hobby is underground. After all, we use secret identities and we hide things in places that others may pass. Many of us take great pleasure in cheating the muggles. Most of those who haven’t heard about geocaching just haven’t yet stumbled onto the phenomenon. Maybe they don’t read the papers, or maybe they just skip over what they believe to be trivial. That is changing rapidly with the increasing popularity of the hobby, and the media is reacting accordingly. When I first was introduced to this madness, I did indeed perceive it as a sort of secret society. Now that I know better, I still fantasize that it is. That is one of the charms of our little game. Please don’t tell anybody.
  12. Now this is just trash talk. You obviously speak with a double-edged tongue; you intend to pump up your post count and instigate a flame war.
  13. Godwin's Law has nothing to do with this; it may be considered bad form to solve, or provide solutions to puzzles in these forums, but I personally don't believe it is in poor taste, or bad form, to discuss or solicit help regarding puzzle caches.
