This is a great idea...and a good way (maybe) to get some boaters interested in geocaching. Here is a brand new cache located on beautiful Monroe resevoir in central Indiana near Bloomington, home of Indiana University: Canoe cache?...and Trash Out? Don't know about all Garmins. I got my cable for my Garmin GPS12 at Galyans. A bit pricey at $45, it also has a built-in cigarette lighter power adapter for your car. A GPSr can be a fun thing without geocaching (did I really say that?). I've used mine as a sort of a journal. Periodically, or when you find yourself at a "special" place, just make a waypoint. The device automatically records the date and time. The title tells where you were or what you were doing. It's fun just to go back through those waypoints when you get back home. I recently planned to place a cache at the site of a beautiful little rural church/graveyard that I had discovered and visited several times while bicycling. I had met the pastor a couple of times, and because the church was the oldest church in the county, I thought it would make a great cache site. I prepared a container, and armed with a sample cache page and standard cover letter, I proceeded to aquire permission for the cache. The pastor related that it was not a good place because of recent vandalism and the fact that anyone walking around the remote church would arouse the suspicion of neighboring residents. Of course, I complied with the pastor's wishes. Three weeks later the church (built in 1829) was burned. Arson is suspected.
