  1. Thanks for all the feedback and the useful information of pointing out my spelling error. Anyhow I am in NJ/NY I need to run several queries as well just to get around my house. Guess it is what it is. It is not to bad getting them on the unit but the whole thing of marking them found I need to do outside the GPS. Overall could be much better but some ANT communication would have to be developed.

  2. I just picked up a Oregon 450 just for geocatching. I can't quite figure out how to get the catches in there yet. It looks like I can use pocket quires and download a batch at a time that is not really a good answer. Anyhow I have been using my Iphone because 50% of the time I do a catch it is spur of the moment when I am traveling and have time but wanted something a bit more accurate. Is there a way to get a catch from my iphone to the Garmin without manually typing it in that would solve my issues? I can try to load all the catches in NJ but it appears that is not really possible and I would have to do tons of quires. This may go back it is a nice GPS but unless it is silly simple and functional geocatching I don't have a use for it. Any help is appreated on how people use this. I guess by now I tought they would have a better more useable system seems like the same cruddy system they had 8 years ago to get catches on there with limited info cluttering the maps and I would have to have to have a pc and cable with me something I don't hike with or necessory travel with since my iphone and ipad has basically replaced that bulkey stuff.

  3. Hi and welcome to the Geocoinforum!

I agree with TeamEccs21, it is a very good idea to read the pinned threads. Meanwhile I can roughly try to answer your questions:

1 How do you buy coins or can you have them made, it looks like people get them made and purchase the number form geocatching?

There are several ways to get coins for example there are internet shops that sell them (all over the world), there are cachers who sell the coins that they made, there are coiners that sell coins here in the forum, there is of course the e-place where you can bid for the coins or people like to trade for them,

    2. Collecting them, you just buy and collect or put them in curculation and collect them after there trip?

Usually the coins are made to travel but like stamps who are made to stick them onto a letter people started to collect them because there are so beautiful. Of course collectors only collect coins that they own, otherwise they wouldn't be collectors but geocoin thieves.

    3. The code thing I would think would be active forever or is it not? How do the codes work?

If you bought a coin you can decide to activate it or leave it unactivated. If you activate it it will be forever and you can let the coin travel or even keep it activated in your collection and let people discover it. There are a lot of collectors who don't activate the coins.

Basically I would not mind collecting some but wondering how to even get started.

Once in a while there are coiners who sell there a collection or a bunch of coins. For example there is a thread here

I hope you understand my answers because English is a foreign language for me ;)

Thanks for the reply it is perfect! and the elglish is good.

  4. I am new to this geocoin thing it has me intrested. A couple of very basic questions since I didn't see a sticky.

Thnank in advance for any advice and dealing with my newbe thread.

  5. My attitude. REALLY? The first response was "Get another hobby." what help is that.

I tried to explain myself better thinking I was maybe not clear and the next responses where not much better. Anyhow I am not sinking to the level of some of the people responding I hope to never run across them again they are pretty useless. I had a simple questions that apparently they are not qualified to answer since they have not shopped lately and rather pick on people instead.

The 60csx I don’t think was a bad GPS just not up to current hand held device standards, heck I can speak the coordinates into my phone via siri now and it will take me there so I was hoping Garmin had improved the user experience. I like the car one I have. I asked here because I wanted one for Geocatching I don't know why people can't understand that. I never had trouble Geocatching with the 60csx the issues where elsewhere. I guess I can't type clearly or they can't interrupt well. I apologies for offending it if that is the best Garmin has and has not improved in many years I guess that is the answer I have to take.

Moderator – this thread is pretty useless and responses are way unprofessional and childish. I suggest you lock it so the petty badgering can stop or delete since it is useless anyhow.

  6. Ok now you people are full of it. Can you even read! My problems with the 60csx where when using it in a car or on my motorcycle. I'm sorry it is horrible for that purpose. It was ok when it came out but quickly got surpassed by more purposed gps's that where better in cars. The touch screen, bigger displays, faster processors, anti glare are so munch better in a newer gps, real time traffic. I feel sorry for you people that you think the 60csx is good for that you really have to get out more and go look at the newer ones. Sure it could work but is not good at it compared to today's standards.

Again! I don't know why it seems some people here are thick headed. Programming it is not a problem. Do I need to say it again, I bet I do. Programming it is not a problem. Maybe I worded it not well I should of used the term tedious compaired to a touchscreen. My daugher is 3 I doubt she could it, and I would bet I am a lot younger than the people commenting I also have a masters in computer programming so I don't think this little toy is an issue. Anyhow you have all been great help I highly suggest you get out of this hobbie or at least keep your mouth shut unless you have something productive to add to forums other than that you are just creating noise and useless information.

I'm sorry if I affended anyone saying the 60csx is not a great car gps.

  7. Yea but my kid likes finding treasures in the woods now and it gets me out. Guess I don't have to geocatch and could just play video games.

Sorry I ment worthless on the road in a car or on my motorcycle. It took to long to calculate the display sucked on the mc and kept taking me down dead ends. I realised was the wrong gps for that and got the zumo.

  8. About a year ago I had a garmin 60csx it was good but a pain to program and worthless for directions so I sold it and got a zumo since I could use my iPhone for Geocatching. But it is so inaccurate and hiding catches is not fair with it, it is time for a new one. Trouble is the iPhone is so convent I will most likely use that and then just program a gps so I just need something basic and fast to program but have had so many issues with the garmin stuff I am not sure what I want some suggestions on what to get would be helpful.

  9. I just got a Garmin 60 CSX and am going on vacation to France next month. I would like to get maps of France but the only package I see is the europe package for about $300, not sure this is really worth it for one trip and I do not need the other cities. Is that what I need first off? and are there any other options?
