  1. There are some people here who like to send out mystery coins. There are folks here that want to surprise someone. There are folks here who you just want to send a note or something to someone. BUT... How do you surprise someone if you have to ask them for their address? Is there any kind of "address book" around here? If there isn't, can we do one, maybe by Yahoo groups or other more secure method so that those interested can join and have access? Just a thought. There are some folks here that I'd like to send a little something to, but don't want to ask for mail addresses because I don't want to mess up the surprise, and going through others that I know is sometimes a PIA to do! TIA, Naomi
  2. I'm impressed, Daniel, thank you notes are DEFINATELY the way to go and I've got a few that I need to get out myself, good job! Someone raised ya right, kiddo, let them know they did a good job
  3. Nah, not a day off work thing, but a lot of companies and schools and everyone else gets into it and has fun. Malls do trick or treating for kids, halloween parties all over the place, kids knocking on doors trick or treating, costumes and decorations galore, just a LOT of fun... And dang, how I miss it!
  4. Then that just makes it all the more special, you must mean a lot to him, lucky girl !
  5. Sabrina, BOTH of those are just great!! I wish my FIL would do something neat like that for me, I'm jealous
  6. Same here with the just starting to do it - I mean it has always been around and we've known about it, but it was never celebrated in any way, shape or form when I was a kid. We only saw it in American TV programs and movies. But in the last 5 - 10 years it has been slowly growing, especially as retailers now get in behind it. Our son has dressed up the last 4 years (except last year when I think he was sick). But houses are far and few between - you might get 1 house in a block that is "in the spirit". We have tried to be during that period, if for nothing else but the kids doing it. It would be terrible if kids went out Trick or Treat'ing only to find no houses in the spirit Adults don't get into it at all really. I think it is something that is going to come through in the next generation. It may already be starting to happen with our younger teens. So this year I am thinking we could go all out... well, maybe not all out, but put in a whole heap more effort. I would really love to get my hands on a BIG, orange pumpkin, but we just don't grow them down here, and it is the wrong time of year I may have to improvise... and I am determined... so lets see what we can come up with. Keewee, here's an idea for you, it's giving someone a "BOO!" I linked the instructions here . I'd do it if it weren't for the fact that we live in BFE and there are no houses with kids really here, unfortunately, but it looks like fun and like a good way to get the neighborhood into the spirit You crazy Dutch love anything orange, lol!
  7. Got two of those gorgeous blue world marbles that I was admiring so much! Thanks for them, I love them, they're gorgeous! Naomi *pleased as punch*
  8. I'm really, really jealous! Here in Sweden they are only just starting to do Halloween and I miss it so much since it's my fave holiday - no stress, no family to deal with, no cooking, just FUN! Still make our jack-o-lanterns every year, even though those precious pumpkins cost us close to 15 bucks each and we do at least 2 a year! Ohhh, I love and miss Halloween, and yes, I too believe
  9. I'd really love anything cat or mouse related. I don't know what there is out there in the name of cats or mice, but I'd love a cute one or the other! I think that would about make my geocoin heart totally happy!
  10. Mousekakat consists of the 4 of us - me, Micke, Hanna and Caitlyn. This pic is Hanna from last Halloween and one of our favorites! She was dressed up as a little witch My girls together last year
  11. Things just keep getting better... along with the fact that we're down to the final week with my mother Today I received two wonderful packages! Lori sent me so very many things, but I treasure her card she wrote to me and the little cards and bookmarks the most, although the coins are pretty special, too! Lori found some cards that had my favorite verses on them, and how she found my favorites is beyond me, but she did! Thank you, Lori! Especially for the FSM coin, hehehe, toooooo cute! Love those eyes! The little "Thinking of You" card is going in my wallet for when I have a rough time and want to know someone is "there!" Steph, I went to your page and looked up your story behind this gorgeous little white buffalo, and it's meaning means a lot to me, especially with what we've been going through, thank you so very much! It truly is beautiful! By the way, mooses are common here in Sweden, and the moose warning signs are very popular and stolen quite often, I LOVE the moose on the card you sent, he just ROCKS! Thank you so much, ladies, it means a lot!
  12. Today I received 2 very special packages, one from LoriDarlin' and the other from Tsunrisebey. I got a bunch of coins from Lori... and amongst them.... a FSM RED COIN!!! YES! We received some other great ones, too, but those googly eyes... they are just hypnotizing, lol! I received an earth turtle pin from Steph and the most gorgeous little white buffalo, I love the buffalo! I have NOT shared the little turtle coin with my 7 year old... I don't wanna share!! Thank you, ladies!
  13. Oh man, that is a cute one AND from my favorite holiday, no less!!! Me wants bad!!!!
  14. There is so much to be thankful for, but right now, especially, I'm thankful for my two girls, Hanna and Caitlyn, and my husband, Micke. Some of you know, we recently went through a miscarriage about 2 weeks ago, and it hit us hard and close to the heart. It also made us realize just how hard it wouuld be to lose any of us in our little family, especially since we are a tight little family due to some serious disfunctionality in our family otherwise. Losing the girls, or each other would be devastating... that is the one silver lining from the miscarriage, it showed us just how devastating it would be and makes us so very grateful for each other.
  15. You're making this a lot harder than it has to be... if you are new, paperless is not the way to go. Print out the information including the hint, it's a lot easier in the beginning, in my opinion at least! Once you get more comfortable with how things are done and such, then you can go paperless, but we still prefer to use paper and actually have a binder in the car that we keep, along with the corresponding map that we print out that shows the location of the caches in any given area when we are travelling. I don't use any GSAK or other program to enter in the coords into our TomTom 1, we enter them in by hand, either using their program on the laptop or the TomTom itself. If you need help knowing how to do that, let me know and I'll PM you how. Once you put in the coords, it takes you to the closest location you can go by car. Now you need to touch the screen once, then go to "browse map." Once you get there, you'll need to take a key or a stylus pen or a twig, or something... and use it to poke around where you are on the map. You can find where you are by touching the blue arrow at the top right and it will show you a blue circle precisely where you are standing on the map. Poke around there with your "stylus" until you see the coords of the cache show up in the bottom left side of the TomTom screen. If it doesn't, touch the screen where it says "find" and be sure that you have coords checked off, then try again. It normally updates about once a minute, if it doesn't, simply turn it off and turn it back on, when it comes back on it'll have updated. It took us a little while to learn to use the TomTom One for caching, but once we figured it out, we found we really liked it and it works well for us. Some day we'd like to get a handheld, but until then, we havefound that it works just fine, it just took time to get comfortable with it. PM us if you need more help!
  16. You can add in latitude and longitude manually. I've never used the GSAK or anything like that, just haven't really had the need to, but I understand that it's doable. When you want to zero in on the cache touch the screen once, then use the arrow on the bottom right to go to the next page and click on browse map when it goes to the next page. I use a key or even a twig as a stylus pen and move the little blue circle around until it is at the coords that the cache is located at and then we go from where the car is parked (which is the last place you should be shown as it has taken you there) and we navigate to the cache. It works fine that way. We have found that if it is slow updating your position, as it sometimes is since it's a car navigator, that we just turn it off and then on again and it updates where we are. Someday we'd like to buy a good handheld, but honestly, this works well for us for now, and we just don't have the extra funds to buy another.
  17. Yay, another "victim!" And a well deserving one, too! Congrats, ya'll!
  18. Please let this family know that they have our hugs and prayers. Micke, my husband, and I have talked about how hard this miscarriage was, and how we couldn't begin to imagine losing on of our precious girls... Stuff like this really puts life into perspective... now, everyone, please go hug your kids for me, ok? Naomi
  19. OMG! AGAIN!! THANK YOU!!! This time to 57Chevy! Today I got another mystery manilla envelope and it's from Tim! I don't know how the planets managed to line up for this, but the timing is just so very incredible! For the rest of you, the private messages and the messages here, I don't know how to properly say thank you. I know that the internet is a powerful thing, especially since I met my wonderful husband online, but again and again and again it just blows me away, the kindness and the way that people reach out to others here and in other places. Your words, they have a powerful impact, and they have made all the difference in the world. You all have touched my heart and I am so very grateful! Thank you again!
  20. Well, I mentioned last week that my mother, who I don't really get along with was here, and that my laptop died and had to be sent out for repairs. It seems that bad things really come in threes, and what followed made the two above seem like nothing. Sunday a week ago we lost the baby at 11 weeks. It was an early miscarriage, but it was a hard experience and very heartbreaking for us. I've kind of been in a shell at home, trying to work through it on my own and it's been tough. Today, in the mail, I received 2 brown mailers. One from Allie, a cute, hot pink geojelly with a little handwritten note on a pretty pink heart, and the other, 2 coins and a great personal coin from the Moops. They were such little things, most of the times it would just bring a smile to your face to get them, but somehow the timing for them today was just right, and they made a huge difference in my heart and how I was feeling. I guess I just needed a little bit of kindness, and today it came just when it was needed. Many, many thanks to those two - today you made a difference! Naomi.... on the path back to healing again!
  21. A shnozzberry geojelly and some neat coins and a great personal coin from the Moops!
