    Send to GPS

Reliability. Dependability. It is a rock solid unit with a multi year proven track record. It has a proven ability to get and hold a solid signal in difficult conditions such as a heavy canopy. It is the GPS of choice for the OPP and Ontario SAR Teams.
  2. It looks like the web site is in trouble. There are several error messages on individual cartridge pages.
  3. Maybe they had to drive back to the start to refuel. No gas stations along the route.
  4. I would like to hear more about how you did it? The actual process. For example, did all four cachers attend at each cache while it was found and signed? Did you sign/stamp the log book or use a sticker? Did you put the sticker on the log book or outside of the container? How many miles? Any DNF's?

    Send to GPS

The OR supports downloading the cache listing, hints, etc. The 60CSx doesn't.

    Send to GPS

The Send to GPX feature does not have configurable options. Because the 60CSx (still the best GPS out there IMHO) restricts the number of characters in a waypoint name, Groundspeak has chosen to use the GC code because it is unique and eliminates the potential for duplication.
  7. I'm in the same predicament, but has not been able to figure it out yet. What was the trick? Thanks Move the Item to Player and it will show in their Inventory.
  8. Interesting that the "experienced" cachers overlooked the guideline that says the cache listing should not be used a forum.
  9. Also note that the OR 300 sets the Screen Capture default to OFF every time you power the unit on. So you will have to turn it on manually if you want to capture the screens.
  10. For the purposes of Tequila:81 Proof, the cache GCH1MZ Silver Peak, will retain the rating it has had for the first 7 years of its existence: Difficulty 2.0 Terrain 4.5 There is no Owner Maintenance log to explain the change to a difficulty 2.5. If it was me, I would ignore this cache and use another 2.0/4.5 but that is just me. You are free to use it as a . 2.0/4.5
  11. For the 5th straight year The Keepers of the Order of the BFL outdid themselves last night creating an awesome event followed by a series of the most interesting night-only caches ever. Every year I say it can't get any better and the BFL Gang proves me wrong. We are far beyond simply following a series of fire tacks to a cache. Knowledge of hexadecimal, cave exploration, UV technology etc. all came in handy. The pub was overflowing and yet you were still able to move about and meet tons of old friends and new cachers. The CHIRP was an interesting addition at the Command Post. Keep up the good work guys. Looking forward to next year.
  12. that would royally suck for anyone that has a few more to complete, not to mention for anyone that needs just one more or....extreme case...someone that has completed all the caches and needs to find the final Did you read the previous two posts?
  13. GS is processing the back log of souvenirs and it is going to take some time. If you want, send an email to contact@geocahing.com
  14. I suspect that at that point there will be some cachers still actively working on this challenge that already have the archived combo. You'll probably have to announce some future date for the archival to give them a fair chance to finish. I know I wouldn't want multiple contracts taken out on my life. Good point.
  15. Interesting discussion on the fairness of date restricted challenge caches in this forum thread: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=262700 For the record, I will not be removing the date restriction on Tequila: 81 Proof. When it reaches the point where it is no longer possible due to a specific combo being totally archived, I will archive the cache.
  16. Thankfully, Groundspeak allows us to create virtually any time of challenge cache we want. AND..... allows us to ignore virtually any time of challenge cache we wish to ignore.
  17. Within 25 km of my date restricted Fizzy, there is a "fresh start" Fizzy for those who want to start at a blank slate. Ironically, for those who feel some challenges are unfair, it can be argued that the "blank slate" challenge punishes those radius slaves who have already found all the nearby caches.
  18. I don't think your cache is in any danger of this, since it's only a couple of years old and is not restricted geographically. But theoretically, if you were facing a situation where the only remaining cache at a particular D/T combo had been archived, would you archive your cache? Yes. To do otherwise would cheapen the effort of those who found it with the date restriction.
  19. One of the special things that happened as a result of a date restricted Fizzy is that a whole bunch of elder caches suddenly started seeing visits after laying dormant for months or in some cases years. In Ontario, when I published Tequila:81 Proof, there was considerable forum discussion over the challenge. In the background, two cachers, quietly, took up the challenge separately. They started seeking out obscure canoe caches. In the case of one cacher, it got him back into kayaking after years away from the water. As they realized they were racing each other, they left messages for each other in caches. It was fun to see the spirit unleashed by the challenge. In the end, they shared FTF. Once someone had completed it, other local cachers started going to these obscure caches. Sometimes, a cache that hadn't been visited in a year, would get three or four visits in a single weekend. I am sure the owners must have been surprised at the new activity. It also distracted several cachers away from quantity towards quality. As Avernar mentioned above, people would plan weekend excursions of 1200 km to get one or two caches. One local cacher even made a trip to California to get the mother of all Fizzies. Now there are at least two other local cachers working on the California Fizzy simply because of the date restricted challenge. For those that chose not to travel great distances to find obscure caches to complete a date restricted challenge, there are plenty of alternatives. Challenge caches are popping up daily. They have become the new ALR, I have no intention of every removing my date restriction and I hope other CO's feel the same way.
  20. Yes they will. I have seen a local cache owner change the name of a cache to make a challenge easier, change the rating of a cache and then archive it. I own a Fizzy Challenge with a date restriction on it. It was the first Fizzy challenge in Ontario and it is still the most sought after - all because of that date restriction. IN most cases, each successive finder has had to work harder than the previous finder to complete it and they take a lot of pride and sense of accomplishment in that fact. I have had the privilege of meeting most cachers at the final. There are at least 3 other Fizzy Challenges in Ontario without the date restriction. So having mine with a date restriction does not hinder new cachers from finding a Fizzy Challenge.

  22. I found my first cache on June 17, 2001 and it is still one of my favourites. It is called Short Cut to the Old Cabin and is still active after over 9 years.
  23. There may be another way but I would simply create a new picture that includes both the text and the image. You can then put the text above the image.

    "Price: Free"

My guess is that Groundspeak, at one point, thought they might be able to create "tour" cartridges etc. that could be sold. The price could be removed, at least for now. Groundspeak hasn't touched the web site in over 2 years. I doubt removing the Price tag if high on their priority list.
