  1. In the printed directions you can double click on the stop time or end of day log and set the time for the length of stop and departure time. This is good if you plan to stay more than one day in an area and lets you leave at different times on different days. Only thing I don't like about real time mapping and geocaching is it makes it way easier than the good ol' days before I even had a serial cable for the GPS. Ah yes in my day everything was paper and manual entering of the coord's. That was when cachers were real men.
  2. Here is the 1:250,000 image of 22D from toporama. There are 16 1:50,000 images for every 1:250,000 image that you can download which will provide even more detail.
  3. This link is from toporama. A toporama image from the Vancouver area. I open this image in Ozi Explorer and plot the coordinates for the four corners of the map, which is easy to determine from the toporama image site, and thats it. It does take some time to build up the library in 1:50,000 images and they don't have all the detail of a finished map but they are free. If anyone would like more detailed instructions on how to do this drop me an email.
  4. So wich one of us bought out the entire stock of lights at the Langley XSCargo today? Got any for sale?
  5. Actually on the west coast Oregon State would work. Good luck and thanks for bringing this cache to my attention. I have already sent of my email to a cacher who will hopefully help out.
  6. We Have A Winner Thank You to all other participants but this is all that it really takes. As cache hiders we do have the final say. You could even go a step further and post a note on the cache page that cacher "XYZ" is not the first to find so the FTF is still up for grabs.
  7. Here is a link from a Canadian company that sells a good container. I am sure these could be found at most dive stores and/or surveying/forestry/geology type stores. Pelican Cases Another option would be to sink a cement block with a pully attached. Through the pullye is a rope that passes through another pully attached to a float at the surface of the water. The cache is then secured to the rope and lowered and raised by pulling the rope. The cache can now be placed much deeper and still be found by divers, boaters or even swimmers. A neat trick would be to cammo the float on the surface. What does a water camo pattern look like anyway? Navy ship grey I imagine. Good Luck.
  8. TO CRIMINAL: AMEN BROTHER. I COULD NOT HAVE EVEN ATTEMPTED TO STATE MY FEELINGS MORE CLEARLY Thank you very much for putting it so clearly. For those who will find this totally alien to thier sensibilities, "Try it you'll like it!"
  9. Lessons learned From the Far North! As someone quoted earlier most Black bears turn and run when spotting humans. This is true. Grizzlies, however can be quite a different matter. I once asked a native trapper friend of mine how do you know if you are in a balck bear area or a grizzly area. He said "It is very easy to tell by their droppings." "What's the difference?" I asked. "Well", he replied sagely, "Black bear droppings have little berries in them and smell awful. Grizzly droppings have little bells in them and smell like pepper!"
  10. I think the best solution would be a yes or no question. If yes is selected then a pop up window asks you to complete the TB log activity. The pop up could even have a hyperlinked list of available TB's. Clicking on a TB link would move to the TB log activity and return you to your cache log after completeing. This would make TB's and cache logs a one stop process. One difficulty may be logging multiple TB's. Any Thoughts?
  11. The prize coordinator, due to personal commitments, will be able to post all winners on November 9th. Thanks You can steer all you want, but it is all for naught if your not moving forward!
  12. quote: When an admin violates a fundamental tennant, it shows a fairly flippant attitude. Is this to be rewarded and justified on GC.com? Surely an example must be set to both establish a precident and reassure the masses. If a violation were reported it would be logged as a corrective action. This in itself forces matters to be dealt with because they are there for all to see. Be aware this is a double edged sword but it does get results if the true goal is the betterment for the sake of betterment. quote: GC in its infinite wisdom has decided to not take these actions. Is it totally unreasonable that the natives are a little restless? I think the mere fact that GC started This Thread is because it is listening to the masses. You can steer all you want, but it is all for naught if your not moving forward!
  13. I originally posted this in another thread before catching up on this forum. quote:Originally posted by WCoaster: What would be nice to see from GC regarding logged complaints about cachers or approvers is to implement a corrective actions protocol. For those not familiar with quality systems a corrective actions protocol is a process where any complaint is logged and given a completion date. On or before the completion date a written response must be returned to the person who initiated the complaint. The response must include the corrective actions taken to ensure the matter is corrected or the reason why it was decided no action was required. Idealy a schedule of all corrective actions initiated would be posted with their respecetive due dates and actual completion dates. This would publicly demonstrate that our concerns as cachers are being addressed and would probably provide a better vehicle for enhancing the geocaching experience than forums ever could. 14. quote:Originally posted by Pantalaimon:Besides, the threat of closing a topic is really without teeth. I'm sure someone can re-post "Suggestions for Approver Guidelines II." Now, whether or not you'd take such suggestions to heart is another matter. Keeping with the topic at hand, however, I would like to suggest approvers, when leaning towards not approving a cache, ask the cache creator if she can show similar caches which have been approved under the same guidelines. I'm not sure I'm making myself clear. I'm striving toward the idea for there to be some effort on similar approval/disapproval of caches worldwide. My thought is that if you can show that a very similar cache to yours has been approved, then that should add weight to your approval (assuming the cache was approved under the same guidelines). Does this make sense? Again, its just a thought, and I may not be explaining the idea well. Pan I believe what you are rying to say is "precedence" which is a very good idea. 15. My two cents worth for what it is worth. I was speaking with a local cacher today about this thread and I made the comment that geocaching seems to be a sport full of type A personalities, especially in Southern BC. (At least those of us that are willing to put it on the line in these forums. Why that is is beyond me and I am sure it can be debated.) The point is that when us type A's get together we all love to push and direct the group. It's what we do. Of course no self respecting type A likes to be pushed or directed themselves. Hence a recipe for fireworks, as can be easily observed here. The one thing that I will go on record for is that all the people involved in the Vancouver issues are good people who love geocaching and have contributed imensely to it. They just have problems with each other. So be it! That in itself is a good enough reason for approvers to use alliases. What would be nice to see from GC regarding logged complaints about cachers or approvers is to implement a corrective actions protocol. 16. Tried out my new patch tonight. Worked awsome. Thanks again gm100guy. Also got to try out my registered version of Ozi. Cery cool features in this software. MSS&T much better in town, but as soon as your off the main grid the Topo's really do the trick. Well off to calibrate some more topos plucked from the NRCAN site You can steer all you want, but it is all for naught if your not moving forward!
  17. This isn't mine it is from evilrooster in the previous thread, but I thought it very succinct. A journey disguised as a destination. That'l do! You can steer all you want, but it is all for naught if your not moving forward!

  19. quote:Originally posted by Pharmadude:Just took a look at gm100guy's link to the patch and discovered that MS Streets 2004 has fixed the problem and the patch is no longer required. About time! Here Here!!! I was looking at the packaging tonight and it does say 1 second updates. I suppose it is too early for a review of 2004 version to know if they fixed the problem with the places database in the 2003 edition? Thanks for the patch info gm100guy You can steer all you want, but it is all for naught if your not moving forward!
  20. Great Tips Pharmadude. I am currently using 2002 and like you I find it indispensible. I dont even know if I could find my to a cache parking area without it anymore. One thing I do regret though, is some of the extra long walks I used to get pre MS S&T. Now I always find the right parking spot. A couple of questions though. How do you manage your pin colors? I have a found and an unfound Easy GPS file sent weekly. Can you load more than one data set at a time? I have heard of a patch to deactivate the time delay for GPS tracking. Do you know where I can find this? Thanks for you help You can steer all you want, but it is all for naught if your not moving forward!

At one point, you couldn't get a straight answer out of anyone about this. Well, that's not entirely true. Seems folks all over the place knew Jomarac5 had this show going on. I guess the joke's on me for having been duped. The jokes on you for being the lone raving lunatic about this whole thing. Gotta give you credit though, like a freakn pittbull on a chihuahua. Geeze. One thing zuuky, can you please change that avtar now? It is starting to freak me out in a Michael Jackson sort of way. 22. Here is the master cache of 11 total caches hidden. This was a big hit. Vancouver Decachelon You can steer all you want, but it is all for naught if your not moving forward!
  23. Well maybe if we just ignore these pirates they will go away. SBC I dont really have stumps with roots. I could get them but man Doug Firs are big. Cedars even more with the roots. I think it would take a couple people at least to hide it. Hopefully somewhere close to the tailgate of my truck! You can steer all you want, but it is all for not if your not moving forward!
  24. quote:Originally posted by canadazuuk:Do the contributions of Captain Urchin and his ilk really outweight the contributions of geocaching.com supporters? Are we really going to see a new wave of caches solely because someone started handing out free lock & lock boxes? Just out of curiosity Zuuk.
