  1. Hi Yogazoo emails sent yesterday and day before to beta team, although no reply at present - which may be good news as hopfully they are working on a quick turnaround for 2.94. Wonder why we are now seeing betas and not a stable alpha release? Are we the new software test team?.. Cheers for now Steve
  2. I dont have Birdseye, so cannot help with that, but I noticed something else wrong with maps today..... the roads are gone on the Worldwide basemap that came with the 62s.... this along with roads missing on Garmin GB Discoverer when in automotive mode that I mentioned yesterday..... I think there is a deeper problem going on with roads showing than just with Birdseye....
  3. Indeed... Thanks again to Mike for the heads up on the newer batches without the squeaky case..... I bought my original last Sept, but Pentagon did an exchange recently without any hassle - the only hassle I got was the big FO from Garmin, but Pentagon stepped in ( outside their T&Cs ) and sorted me out - a big thanks to them, and of course Mike for the initial heads up. The 62s is a good device, although it does have some software issues, but the beta team seem to be getting these sorted...... I'm sure you wont be disappointed.
  4. Dont forget the Wiki pages, which may help you.... 62s Wiki -> http://garmingpsmap.wikispaces.com/message/list/home'>http://garmingpsmap.wikispaces.com/message/list/home 'Some of the information on the Garmin Oregon Wiki applies to the Garmin GPSMAP 62 and 78 as well' Oregon Wiki -> http://garmingpsmap.wikispaces.com/ Hope this helps....
  5. 62s wiki -> http://garmingpsmap.wikispaces.com/message/list/home Oregon Wiki -> http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/ Hope this helps
  6. Have a look at my post in this thread http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=269321 This may give you a starting point for you to tweak for your own use. Hope this helps you. Steve
  7. Thanks :-) I should have said, it's for a Garmin 62s and at £237 delivered I thinkn that's an amazing price! I have read through the reviews for the site and can now order knowing it's a real site with some great feedback. Thanks again Edit: Handtec are doing the same device for £245.33 delivered.... anyone have a voucher code ? They are based in Sheffield. and I was lucky to be able to pay them a visit to buy my 62s. Fully reputable Co - yes they are based in the 'back' of a Toyota Main Delaership, but the lady on Service reception just goes and gets the bloke to come out to you. Make sure you 62s doesnt have the infamous squeaky case ( effects all sellers, not only Pentagon )....have a read at my thread on the subject....caused quite a stir at the time, but best to be forewarned...... Cheers Steve
  8. The 'About' screen populates fine on my 62s without any Birdseye installed. Nice to see the profile issue I discussed here... http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=263825 ... is now fixed in this beta release...... however when I select Automotive mode from setup map > orientation, no roads show on Discoverer maps...... an email is on its way to the beta team. Wonder what they mean by 'Improved GPS performance' - maybe the release notes should be a little more specific? I'll mention this to the beta team in my email.
  9. Nice to see that the beta team have fixed this in the new 2.93 beta.... however another prob now arises..... The profile issue I mentioned at the beginning of this thread is now fixed, but when I select Automotive mode from setup map > orientation, no roads show on Discoverer maps...... an email is on its way to the beta team.
  10. My PQ ran on 14/03/2011 at 10:14 US server time - the cache file didnt show any info like you describe, but the child waypoint file displays ok on the GPS. Subsequent PQs are OK. I dont think you were doing anything wrong - it was prob a blip in the PQ system.....
  11. Something strange happened today...... I connected 62s to PC via usb and for some reason, I removed it and connected it again as the 62s was 'booting'. The following screen came up ( wouldnt allow me to screen capture ).... External power lost turning off in 30 <- this counts down to 0 Continue on bat power turn off stay on Does this suggest that power is indeed coming from the usb, or is it some sort of glitch in the software? I have left my 62s conected to the pc for hours and the battery meter has never dropped?
  12. Note my previous post here: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=269464
  13. Tight fit here without any sloppiness. Never read any reports of this problem. Are you using the data cable that came with your unit? Do you have another cable to try? ( eg from a camera etc ). Sounds like a faulty connector - maybe been forced at sometime, or poss a manuf fault?
  14. Never tried Glida Ratio To Destination, so cannot comment - sorry. For tide data, I have installed Bluechart Altantic. Tide dates are changed with the rocker button without any probs - no whiteout screens. The tide 'sinusoidal' chart can be displayed with hi lo water times above the chart. Everything seems to work fine for me on the 62s. Are you using a Bluechart product? I read somewhere that tide data is incl ( dont know how ) in the US versions without need for any additional Bluechart product???
  15. Delete the .gpx file from the unit. one more question how do i go about deleting the .gpx from my unit? Hi You might find this site useful for some of your queries... http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/Geocaching#FAQ-GC2. It relates to the Oregon, but it is very similar to the 62s. The Wiki for the 62 series is here.... http://garmingpsmap.wikispaces.com/message/list/home To delete the .gpx file from the 62s....... connect the GPS to your PC ( goes into mass storage mode ). Use Windows explorer to navigate to the garmin/gpx folder and delete the 2 .gpx files to remove all geocaches. Run a new Pocket Query on GC.com. Load the 2 .gpx files into the garmin/gpx folder. View geocaches and child waypoints on your 62s.
  16. Top right of this screen. Under your user name. Drop down box - my settings. On the new page that comes up - left column, down to notification options, tick 'Watch every topic I reply to' and select immediate notification. Tick some of the other boxes at the bottom of page if they apply to what you want. Hope this helps. Steve
  17. Have you tried this?.... 1) Delete all gpx files in the garmin/gpx directory ( back up any that you want to keep ) 2) Unplug usb from PC 3) Reboot GPS. wait for it to fully load the map screen. 4) Reconnect usb 5) Load the new gpx files to the garmin/gpx directory and copy across those that you saved and want in the gps 6) Unplug usb from PC 7) Turn on the gps and view all details in the gpx files incl new caches. I think this is one of those things that Garmin claim is GC.com fault..... I dont know why tho...... just read it in another thread. The above works everytime for me on the 62s - a pain I know, but at least it works for me..... Hope this helps. Steve
  18. Thanks for your reply, Pierrega. I am still at a loss as to why the GPS shuts off - I cannot think of any reasonable explanation. Maybe its some combination of GPS settings that we have different, although this really shouldnt make any difference? Could it be due to the colour bit depth of the saved image? I think the 62s can display max 65000 colours - this means a bit depth of 16 bit = 32768 colours would be ok, but not sure how the GPS would react if a 24-bit image was loaded - that has 16.7 million colours. Just a thought, but I'm probably wrong. Thanks for confirming you had the same problem; this is strange behaviour - maybe another software glitch? Maybe you could mention this to Garmin Canada when you contact them? Yes, please let me know, if/when you get a response from Garmin Canada; I'd be interested to know what the problem is. Your english is perfect - dont worry - I fully understand you Thanks for getting back to me. Steve
  19. Hi Pierrega I have tried a test today and managed to load 21 pictures no problem. The pic sizes were: 17 are 320 x 240 2 are 320 x 427 1 at 320 x 238 1 at 320 x 186. Random selection some with EXIF header, some without. I do not experience any shut off problems. What I did find was this...... from the map screen, find, select photos.....if I then scrolled down the list BEFORE the left side icons had refreshed, the 62s would hang/freeze and the only way to restart was to take batteries out - on/off not work. If I leave the gps a little while ( maybe 30secs ), and then scroll down the list, it is ok without any lock up.... strange... but I have not experienced any shut off...... I cannot think of any reasonable explanation for the switch off - maybe if you contact Garmin in Canada they may offer some advice? Steve
  20. Thanks for the feedback. I contacted Garmin UK earlier today by phone, and they told me that they were unaware of the issue. They asked me to send an email detailing the problem, which I did..... The email was addressed to the individual I spoke to. I await their response and look forward to this issue been resolved in a later version of the software. They also confirmed that there is no forum topic available to post this into on the garmin forum site - another issue he told me he would investigate. I'll post back any response I get from them, and will chase in a week or so, if they do not get back to me. I have an individual's name as single point of contact. Regards Steve Not forgotten about this. Despite several chases to Garmin, I still await their reply. Lets hope someone has already actioned and we see the error corrected in a future ( hopefully next ) release of software.
  21. Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I agree, the manual is very poor. I too just play around and teach myself. We just cross posted at the same time :-) I made a mistake in my post above - see my last post to Pierrega - the link didnt work - it got corrupt when I cut and paste the above from one of my posts on another thread. I have updated the link in my original post above and it should now display correctly. With regards to your point '...and without that affecting other profiles...' check out that link - unfortunately Garmin have a problem ( confirmed by them ) with profiles and therefore changing one field in one profile does in fact change a field in others - which it shouldnt do. Here's the link for you to have a look at: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=263825&st=0&p=4532770&fromsearch=1entry4532770 Hope this helps you a little bit more. Regards. Steve
  22. Hi Pierrega Thank you for the feedback - glad the config was some use to you. Thanks for pointing out that the link didnt work - it got corrupt when I cut and paste the above from one of my posts on another thread. I have updated the link in my original post above and it should now display correctly. Regards Steve
  23. Am I missing the obvious.... where did he say that? My understanding was he was asking to remove the field in the geocaching dashboard that tells you how many you have found - you cannot alter this data field, only set it to the No you have found - you cannot change that bit of the screen to read gps accuracy, which was my understanding of the question. Correct me if I am wrong. Having 'caches found' as a data field that you can place on any screen would be a good idea though. AGREED.
