  1. The South Wales Golfer's Geocoin, created to celebrate the hosting of the Ryder Cup in Wales for the first time in 2010, is now on offer at just £5 on the Mega Wales shop - here

The Mega Wales committee have always kept a small stock of their fund raising geocoins aside for sale at events, but these few remaining coins have been collected back in and are now available through the shop.

But, when these are gone, there will be no more.

  3. Several plants can cause allergic reaction, besides Giant Hogweed.

Besdies Japanese Knotweed, Himalayan Balsam there is also Wild Parsnip to add to the list.

Do hope you don't have further reactions when you are out caching.

  4. Unfortunately, a "Meet the NW guys" event was put on hold until the "succession" was confirmed, which was only relatively recently. Discussions have re-commenced and the Mega Wales Committee will do their best to help NW.

The current list of side events isn't necessarily complete - there are other options being investigated/planned, although "stacking"/proximity rules can be a bit of a pain!

  5. Sales of Supporter's Packs for Mega Wales have exceeded our expectations but, in order to confirm numbers for the official Mega Wales Geocoin and allow time for production of the coins, sales of the Supporter's Packs will close on 12th May. Remember, the official Mega Wales geocoins are only available if you purchase the Supporter's Pack and will not be available to purchase at the Mega Event on the day.

For the latest news on the Mega, check out http://www.megawales.co.uk/waypoints.html

If you want to order a Supporter's Pack, the SHOP link on the above webpage will take you to the right place.

  6. Supporter's Packs, which greatly help to ensure the success of the event, can now be ordered from the Mega Wales shop - http://www.megawales.co.uk/shop/

Please note that Packs will be ready for collection when you register at the Brangwyn Hall on the 31st July 2011. Packs will contain the Mega Wales souvenir brochure, some geocaching related goods such as a ready-made cache and camo bag, and the official Mega Wales Geocoin. This coin will only be available to Supporters.

  7. Following lively forum discussion a couple of months ago, the Mega Wales committee has endeavoured to chart a course through the conflicting views expressed. The conclusion is that:

    (a) While the Golden Ammo Can is held by this committee, it will not make appearances at ordinary events during the year.

    (B) With due regard to the security of the Can and its contents, every effort will be made to feature the appearance of the Can at Mega Wales. It will be readily available for attendees at the event to see both it and its contents and log any or all of the trackable items, if they wish.

It is emphasized that the policy adopted by the Mega Wales committee relates only to its period of tenure of the Can and its successors are free to make their own decisions on this matter.

For those that don't know, the UK Mega Event Ammo Can (to give it its correct name) was born at the Weston Mega in 2009 with the goal of “To travel from one UK Mega Event to the next collecting a mega coin from each one ...” The Can is officially a Travel Bug, carrying the usual dog tag for tracking, and, as the name implies, is an ammo box. As well as passing through Mega Scotland in 2010, it has retrospectively gained coins from Harrogate (2008). So it already has seven trackable geocoins inside it and this will be supplemented by the time it appears in Swansea. It also carries other memorabilia from the Mega events.

  8. I just liked the idea of it being like a Talisman and respected the originators wishes so sorry if my comments upset anyone.

OK so Perth perhaps made the mistake of not putting it on show - perhaps with the coin collections? We did not intend to cause problems but the subject just never got brought up.

I guess being on a Mega committee is a learning curve, none of us on the past three committee's had ever done anything like this before so I hope future committees can learn by our mistakes.

At the end of the day it is just another TB icon and really not worth arguing over!

Perhaps by Mega 2020 we will have got it perfect?:D:D

Just want to say we, Write and Mane had a fantastic time in Scotland, not a midge to be seen. :anicute:

    Haggis and Burns were brilliant.

The Mega team did us proud, I (Liz) even got a laugh with my stunning headwear.

Megas are learning curves and we continue to learn from our mistakes but make no mistake we are all looking forward to seeing you Swansea in 2011.
