  1. In 2009: I would like to reach the 1,000 find mark. Host my first Geocaching event Place the 3 unfinished caches I am working on (none are your normal hide) Release 5 coins in the wild (it is not easy to let go of shiny things)
  2. When I saw the coin on the first page yesterday, I immediately went and ordered the bicycle coin (and a holiday coin for a Secret Santa gift). My intention is to place it along the American River Trail in the Sacramento, California area that has bike paths on both sides of the river. I'll attach a key tag to it asking geocachers to keep it on the trail. Now that I've read the thread, I'd love to get my hands on some of the rejects to distribute along the trail. What was the verdict on them? I don't have any "wheeled" incidents to share but as a jogger for over 15 years, I've ended up as a grill ornament a couple of times because drivers didn't look the other way for a slow moving object like me. Luckily I was never hurt. While the coin is geared for those on wheels, pedistrians should benefit as well.
  3. Every year we make homemade microwave peanut brittle for our coworkers. Takes us a good part of the day to whip up 16 to 20 batches and it is always well received.
  4. Some cachers may be prejudiced by your find count of 31 with the thought of "If a cacher hasn't found very many, how can they know how to hide well?" As others have stated, learn from this experience. Also, go try to find a 3.5 difficulty cache in your area. Perhaps you'll see some similarities between their hide and yours.
  5. My blackberry works great with CacheBerry for paperless geocaching. But are you using Cacheberry on the new Blackberry Storm?
  6. I don't like to wait until a scheduled lunchtime geocache hunt.
  7. Yo all - I'm back from the trip. Stargazer21 - would have loved to have met up with you but there wasn't as much time as I thought. We were vacationing in Mexico so we had to go through Customs. Then we had to pick up all our luggage and take it to another part of the airport and go through another another TSA checkpoint. When we were done, it had taken almost an hour and a half. We had a leisurely dinner at one of the airport resturants and ended up with about an hour of free time afterward (I had a caher buddy call me for a lifeline so it wasn't completely Geocaching free). My question to you area cahcers: Do you have a local cacher's association website where it would have been better to make a request? By the way - if ya'll are ever heading through the Sacramento airport and have some time them drop me a line. If I have the time available, I'll be more than happy to take out of area cahcers for some finds.
  8. webscouter, Thank you for the advice. It looks like I'll be staying in the airport and finishing off a book. As an update regarding the Bass Pro Sports store, I emailed them and received a response from their coporate headquarters that encouraged me to contact the store directly. I may call to see if the shuttle is still in service in case we encounter a lengthy delay. Perhaps I should start a thread in the main forums asking all about Geocaching friendly airports - but it'll have to wait until after the trip.
  9. TravlnGma, Thanks for the info. It looks like Grapevine Mills is gone but there is Bass Pro Dreams (GCVR1V) right there in their parking lot. I've sent a message to the store to see if the shuttle service is still active. If so, I'll have a chance to grab at least 1 cache in the fine state of Texas. Would love to go after Snakes on an Ammo Can (GCXTJV) becasue I could drop some travelers. I'll post the outcome when I find out.
  10. 9Key - Thank you for the valuable information. That's exactly what I was looking to find out. Barirng mass transit it looks like I may have to resort to outright bribery in order to log a Texas cache so... If you know of anyone in the area that has time to kill around 4:30 p.m. on October 18th, has a functioning vehicle, and would like to show a Californian what Texas style caching is about then have them drop me a line before October 9th (that's just before we leave and I'll be incommunicato afterwards) and I'll see if I can make it worth their while. 11. Hey Dallas & Ft. Worth Geocachers, I will be returning from a vacation on October 18th at 3:40 p.m. and have a 4 hour layover at the Dallas - Ft. Worth airport. Is there a decent public transit system that can take me to a caching area where I can pick up a few caches and get back with a resonable level of reliability?
  12. Another thought - see if there is an event occurring that you can attend. You ought to be able to find the place on a map even without a GSPr. Post that you'll attend, that you're a newbie, state your situation, and politely ask if anyone is interested in "showing you the ropes". Chances are you'll have plenty of offers to join them for caching afterwards (depending on when the event ends).
  13. I have a dilemma that only Geocachers can appreciate: I'll be on a Caribbean cruise while GeoWoodstock VI occurs in my backyard (it would be a 45 minute drive away). My spouse thought I was kidding when I suggested we rebook the cruise and I left her thinking that way... On the plus side, we do plan to rent a wave runner to go after a cache on an island in the Bahamas (GC12Z2K).
  14. I too was perplexed by some puzzle caches and stumbled onto a series in Flordia which has really helped me. It starts with GCYXZ1. You can pick up the rest of the series by the CO's "Puzzle Solving 101 Series" Bookmark on the same page.
  15. I like the 'Replacement log by...' idea along with a note in your GC.com log saying as much. If it has your logo on it and if the cache owner doesn't like it then they can perform some quick maintenance to place a new log. It shows me that you're kind enough to do some minor maintenance that I, personally, would appreciate. I carry around some generic small rite-in-the-rain logs I bought just for this occasion. I may try writing 'Replacement log by the Elk Grove Treasure Hunters' on them.
  16. Wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to go to your local hardware store for the materials and make your own? On a similar note, in December 2001 I ordered some Recorders (wind instruments) and an electronic metronome from a musical supply company. I had to pick the package up from the Post Office and as I was walking out I heard "tick, tick, tick..." from the metronome within the box. I hurried back to the car and drove off looking in my rearview mirror the entire trip home.
  17. Along the same train of thought...Once you've found a Bookmark List you like, is there a way to flag it for quick and easy future reference? I didn't see any means to create a Bookmark List of other cacher's bookmark lists...
  18. I started off as a team to get the entire family involved. Sometimes they come along but most times they don't Possibly the same situation as TrailGators and Blaidd-Drwg? When it comes time to post logs there are times where I write "I", which doesn't always make sense for a team, and other times where I write "we" (and explain who was with me). Am seriously considering changing to a solo name but haven't checked into what hoops I need to jump through to get it done. Plus, I didn't realize when I started that a long name can be a pain to write on micro logs Papa EGTH
  19. Palm m500. Recently purchased as an inexpensive paperless caching device usingCacheMate.
