If you're not already writing a log, such as a found it, then clicking there's a problem, you don't get the options. If you want to post an NM or Archive, then in your new log, you have to click opt-out in the top right to get the old logging options. It's stupid.

This feature rarely works. Plus, if you are trying to tag someone and pick the wrong name, you can delete it, but the popup will NEVER come back. This feature rarely works.

I find it annoying that from Mail or Gmail, the links open in the geocaching app, not Safari, as have it set in settings. I may uninstall the geocaching app for this reason alone as I use Cachly. No other app I have installed does this.

Did this also wipe out the “Add a coordinate to your log” feature as well in the old logging flow?

I have the official app on an iPhone. When someone messages me, I do not get a notification. I know I used to at some point, but it does not work now. I have heard reports of the message notifications not working on Android as well. The email about a message part works, but I would like it to fully function within the app confines.

The Send to Garmin macro works great for me on my 600. Also, you should see tour GPX files in the file system under Garmin -> GPX. If the geocaches are showing under find geocaches but not on the map, on the map screen adjust the map settings so that user waypoints are not auto but more mile 0.3 miles or so at a minimum.

I ran two existing PQ's and there wasn't a problem. My "My Finds" PQ is not running. I've emailed HQ.

I am looking to hide a Geocache with my iPhone. What is an accurate GPS app that will give me exact co-ordinates. Free or Paid it doesn't really matter I just need accuracy.

Please don't use a phone. They are not accurate at all for placing caches. Hey are not bad for finding, however. Only use a dedicated GPSr if you want accuracy. I did a group school project plotting waypoints with cellphones. I told my classmates this in the beginning and no one believed me. The final project was useless as none of the 60+ points were where they should be and 3 were about a mile off.
This is outdated thinking. A few years back when smart phones used cell tower triangulation to plot location this may have been true. Today's smart phones have a working GPS chip on board and any difference in accuracy compared to a handheld GPS is negligible. It's all about the care taken by the hider.
I think cell phones still get a bad rap as tools for hiding caches mainly because they are being used by inexperienced cachers. Experienced cachers who have been playing the game for awhile have usually obtained a GPS at some point, so of course they use it for hiding. But they also know that you should obtain several readings on different days and average the results, test your coordinates before submittal, etc.
. New players who have only found a few caches and only have a phone, also probably don't have the experience or knowledge to understand how to get accurate coordinates. So they grab one momentary reading and submit that as their coordinates. When the coordinates suck everyone complains that the phone is to blame, but really it's the inexperience of the user.
I placed my first hide with an iPhone and I've never received any complaints about the coordinates being off.
To the OP....do a search for "GPS Averaging" in the App Store....there used to be an app called Perfect Mark that I've recommended for a while, but I don't know if it's still available. There's another $0.99 app called GPS Averager that looks like it does the same thing.
Whatever app you use, just understand that when you obtain a reading, you should set your phone down at the hiding spot for a couple of minutes to let it settle down and get a good fix before geabbing a reading. Then come back later, preferably on a different day, and obtain another reding. Do this 3 or 4 times and calculate the average of those readings (or use one of those GPS averaging apps which will do it for you), and THEN you will have an accurate set of coordinates. If you take your time and use this method you shouldn't get any complaints.
As I've stated, I've already done a study with this. But to each their own. Maybe your results are better than the eight of us who worked on our project, or from the geocaches I've found where I know the hider and what they use to hide it with (cell or GPSr). Results may vary.

I keep seeing references online about using 24K topo and City Nav. But what I never see is how people are using them. In other words do you enable them under the same profile? Or on different profiles? Is one an overlay of the other?
I currently have the 24K topo and I'm going to be purchasing the City Nav soon so I'd like to figure out how to get the most out of the two combined or separately.
I have a Montana with City Nav, 24k topo, and OSM on the same SD card. When you're in the map view, press the setup (squarely horizontal lines) button, map setup, and disable all maps except the one you want. They will not overlay. So in my automotive profile I leave the City Nav. Geocaching is 24k topo as I'm usually hiking, but I'll switch it to OSM if that particular park is mapped. The key is to disable all but one map and it'll work perfectly every time.

I have a Montana 600 and I like it a lot! It has different profiles, and you can have more than one map on it. So, for example, in the automotive profile you can have it look like a nuvi with road maps. Then switch to geocaching profile and you can have too maps with the compass and cache on top or the side, maps are extra, though...

I have used a Garmin 60c handheld for years that finally died. I bought a new Montana 600 a couple of weeks ago and have been pleased with it. Took it to Las Vegas and downloaded just one PQ into it and did just fine. Today I pulled a bunch of PQ for a road trip tomorrow and find that it appears that I can download one PQ, but when I go to download the next PQ it overwrites the first one, so I can only download one PQ at a time. I can't find any settings in GSAK that have changed and when I go look on the Garmin removable drive in the computer when attached by USB only one GPX file shows up. Any idea how to fix this or circumvent it? Thanks for the help.
I second team trsri as I use GSAK & have a Montana 600 and I came from a 60CSx as well. Just change the gpx file name before sending. Also, if you have maps, you can put several maps on one sd card and pick which ones you want by enabling & disabling them. You can have road for auto and too for geocaching. I thought that was super cool when I figured that one out!

I did change the icon to the closed chest like I used to on the 60CSx. No dice. It's even a different icon from what GSAK puts on there. It's no big deal. I can use the map OR the compass. If I use the geocaching app (or widget) then it points to the next closest geocache. Which I guess makes sense as I entered a waypoint, not a geocache and apparently I can't enter a geocache...Oh well. For all of the great features, I can live with one inconvenience.

Hello all!
I recently upgraded my 60CSx to a Montana 600. Wow, what a difference! I've figured out how to mark a waypoint and use averaging, but how would I manually add it as a geocache, not a waypoint? The reason I would want to do this is on the map screen I use the geocaching dashboard which has a compass on it. I can't beat a map AND a compass on the same page! But if a new cache shows up in my email and I want to run out without booting up my laptop, I can only add a waypoint. Then when I'm using the map to find the waypoint, the compass is showing the nearest geocache, which is NOT what I'm looking for. As a work around I've been changing the dashboard to small data. Any suggestions? Thanks!
