Erm, I was asking about 4x4 Evo, not the game you posted about. icon_smile.gif

I'd have to disagree here... hyperlinking is one thing, but when you use a company's URL on an item without their permission - it is just asking for trouble.

I mean, think about if some company started a business selling mugs, shirts, etc - with just the words " www . ebay . com " on it... you know eBay would put a stop to it.

I'm not saying the plan here is to make commercial items... I realize that it is NOT intended for that. What I am trying to point out, though, is the potential for abuse.

I bet it has been posted somewhere on the forums, what J&TPTB's thoughts are on this... I'm just spouting off here - I don't really know what the "official word" is on it. icon_smile.gif

(edit: I hope everyone doesn't think I'm trying to pee in their cheerios about this... I just like playing devil's advocate sometimes)

  3. Just to save possible trouble down the road, I would leave off the URL, instead just using the somewhat generic term of "geocaching"

I mean, lets say I want to use the GX stock logo w/URL on one side, and then use the other side of the coin for "free admission to Toe's Noodie Bar" on the other? I don't think J&TPTB would like that.

Sure, we all know that the chances are slim that someone would want to use the coin in that manner... but designing a logo with NO reference to the site here would be preferred, I think.

  4. I think I already shared my christmas mall parking story earlier in this thread, or some thread anyway - but there is another addition that can be made to that.

If you park in a wheelie spot, and you don't have a wheelie permit - you suck.

I'm sick of seeing these snooty looking mid 30s women parking their giant SUVs in handicapped parking spots, because they can't manage to walk a few extra feet to get into the mall. I always give them the benefit of the doubt - but if they don't have a wheelie icon on their plate, or a thing hanging from their mirror... they get the evil eye from Mr Toe here. icon_mad.gif

  5. I didn't realize it cropped... I thought it just resized to a width of 75 pixels. Which, of course, has always made me want to make an avatar that is like 75 pixels wide by 1000 pixels tall. icon_biggrin.gif

But yeah, I agree... the more time you've spent in the forums, the more you glare and grit your teeth when you see ANOTHER test thread start. Or maybe it is just me. icon_smile.gif

  6. I grabbed Builder Dan from a cache near Port Columbus International Airport here in Ohio... I live here, so obviously I wasn't planning on flying him out of state or anything.

Anyway, I snatched him up and took him 25 miles SE - after which someone promptly grabbed him and took him right back to the same cache he started from, right next to the airport. icon_confused.gif

And that was the last we've seen of poor ol' Builder Dan. Someone flying out of Columbus grabbed him about 4 months ago, took him into Canada - and he hasn't been heard from since. icon_eek.gif

I was hoping he'd have a good adventure... it was the first and only bug I have found, and I really geeked him up with some pics and a story. icon_biggrin.gif

  7. *laugh* Crap... I saw umc posted about this in the geocaching.com forum and I was clicking on it so I could give him a verbal beating for making TWO seperate posts about it when there is already a perfectly good thread started by Planet. icon_smile.gif

  9. I was wondering about that myself. As long as the censor is still in place, I don't see any reason for people to get pissy about cursing. Although, I suppose the automagic censor won't catch every word that might offend someone.

But overall, I can't see any reason that I'd ever "report a post" due to content - other than in situations where it is obvious the poster is a troll, and using extremely negative posting methods to try to stir up trouble.

Like, if I came in here and started a whole new thread just to tell umc what a cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, ****less, hopeless, heartless, fat-***ed, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spineless, worm-headed sack of monkey **** he is... I'd expect that post to be reported rather quickly. icon_wink.gif

But yeah - I can't believe J & TPTB would want this feature, as I'm assuming they already have plenty of e-mail to deal with. We've already got people out there policing our caches, so I guess it only makes sense that the politeness police make their way into the forums here. icon_rolleyes.gif

I think in all of my posts, probably only a few of them might have ever been offensive and/or annoying enough for someone to go crying to Jeremy about. I'm a pretty good boy. I hope people don't abuse the feature though... perhaps J & TPTB can post some general guidelines for when it should or shouldn't be used. I mean, should we report every "test" thread that starts? icon_smile.gif

  10. You... don't... have... to... use... paper!

    *slapping forehead*

Where is your creativity, people?? I apologize for getting so easily irritated - but it just bothers me that people can't see past what is presented to them. Sure, your tag would come to you as a PDF or in e-mail or whatever, but there are countless ways to label your bug and give it its tracking number.

Okay, I'm putting down the stick... I think I've beaten this dead topic enough already. icon_rolleyes.gif

Yeah - it'd be neat if you could specify which format you want. Some people like a nice, tidy PDF file... while others might like a high resolution JPG image that has the number coded into it somehow, in some big fancy geocaching design. icon_smile.gif

Maybe PDF is infinitely resizable, letting people make tags as big or small as they want, without jaggies. Like, umm, like... fonts.. true type? uhh... I can't remember now... umm nevermind. icon_smile.gif

Somehow, I don't think Rubbertoe would enjoy that one...

    You think right. icon_smile.gif

Actually... I was tempted to go after this multi that is about 15 miles from here, but I'm a bit worried about heading out that way and having problems. It is fairly new, but there have already been comments about leakage and soggy coordinates and stuff. I can't imagine the unpleasant Ohio winter has done much to improve the condition of that.

And the other thing that kept me from doing it... you have to drive around to all the different parks to get the legs of the cache. I like what other folks have been saying - if there is a large park with a big trail system, I'd probably be likely to nab a multicache if I could walk along and grab them up. But if I have to drive here, get a clue, get back in the car, drive there, get a clue, get back in the car, etc - it probably ain't gunna happen. icon_wink.gif

Out of the whole idea of travel bugs and the tracking process...

you think the TAG is the actual reason for the fun? icon_confused.gif

Personally, I'd rather see all the unique ways that people would label their bugs, and include the tracking number. You could have items with engravings, cloth based bugs with numbers embroidered onto them, custom made shrinky-dink type tags attached to stuff... I dunno, it just sounds like a neat way for people to be creative.

Well, shouldn't the owner of the bug worry about that? You can't baby everyone, just because some people might not be able to figure out how to make their tag/markings last. I mean, if people are buying a tagless tracking number - they should be expected to have the common sense to be able to mark their bug in a somewhat permanent manner... and if they can't, well then that is just too bad for them. icon_smile.gif

  14. I've seen a few people posting here that they are going to hide a multi-cache. In fact, a couple of those folks even said it was the first cache they've ever hidden. I'm curious as to why they would choose to hide a multi-cache rather than a regular one-stage cache, especially if it was the first they had hidden. But anyway, that isn't the question for this poll - but it might help others who are considering hiding a multi, instead of a regular cache.

What is your opinion of multi-caches?

(please select the answer closest to your opinion - feel free to expand in a reply)

  15. Ugh - I just made a really long, well thought out reply to another thread... and when I hit "post now" I got one of the "page unavailable" type error pages. So, I clicked "back" and when I went back to the submission/edit page, everything I typed was gone. icon_mad.gif

Oh well, it was basically just kissing Markwell's *** a little bit to make sure he didn't think his contributions were unappreciated. icon_smile.gif I'm sure he is already aware of that and doesn't need me tossing cookies in his general direction. icon_razz.gif

Yup - that sounds about right, although - here is my take when someone markwells a thread. I don't necessarily think that someone markwells a thread with the intention of ending the thread and thwarting conversation. I think it is more a matter of wanting to supply information. If someone asks a question that has been discussed before, someone will probably markwell the thread to that discussion - just so that person doesn't miss anything that might have been said before.

But yes, I can see how it would give the appearance of someone just "shooing" someone to another thread, instead of helping them. But, markwelling a thread really is helping, imho. icon_smile.gif

Ditto - I've referenced a few threads before myself, but I'm usually up for rehashing any conversation that anyone wants to have. It is in my nature to help, or at least sway people to think the way that I do. icon_wink.gif

I guess it must be a little bit harder than we realize, adding new forums to the pile here. There have been test posts sprinkling all the different forums for as long as I can recall, along with requests for a test-specific forum. icon_smile.gif Perhaps a whole OT forum section would be appreciated by J&TPTB as well as some other users.
