  1. I have thought long and hard about this and have finally decided to thin my collection somewhat. The bulk of what is going is my Big List of Dutch Geocoins. It has been a lot of fun assembling this near-definitive collection of Nederlandse geocoins, but they are just coming out too fast to keep up. I have had them for about 5 years now... I think it is time for someone else to enjoy them.

There are nearly 400 coins in total that I am hoping to find new homes for. About a dozen of them are activated and will be adopted out. My Dutch mystery coins and Delft Blau coins are NOT in the group being sold, nor are ones that were gifted to me over the years.

The list presented here is only about half of what is available for sale. If you would like the full list, please email me.

PS: This does not mean I am getting out of geocoin collecting. I am just refocusing.

The dollar values I have assigned are guidelines. Please make an offer if you see something you want.

  2. I still try to post all my new designs here, but the last few have generated little or no response. I was worried that maybe nobody liked my designs, but sales are still doing well.

I don't post on the FB groups -- just my own page. If someone else wants to post my coins in a group I am fine with that. There are just too many for me to keep up.

I do have one coin coming out in the new year and a series that will start in Feb or March.

  3. Are they actually trackable? Or just coins?

    These coins are not trackable.

It looks like several were mailed out in groups of five. Some have mysteriously shown up at events (how I got mine) and others have been found in caches. The best way to get a mystery coin is to add your name to the Geocoin Address Book and take a seat on the bench. :)

If you would like the complete list, please send me an email through my GC profile. If you want to browse through what may be on the list, go to the Big List of Dutch Geocoins.

I will wait a week or so to see if anyone wants to make an offer on the entire collection before entertaining offers on individual coins.

PS: This does not mean I am getting out of geocoin collecting. I am just refocusing. :D

  5. I was wondering if there is any way to find the Geocoin challenges in my local area. I've been combing these forums looking for anything I could find but have yet to find anything. I have completed three challenges in my local area and while I realize these challenges are set up by individuals or like the three I have completed an area chamber of commerce, I would still love to find a way to find more of them. If anyone has any information I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thank you for your time,

    Kane_blackrose

  6. Remembrance Day 2013 Geocoin

    PHD13802_pic.jpg

This year's Remembrance Day geocoin celebrates the accomplishments of the RCAF during the Second World War. Although over 90,000 Canadians served overseas in the RCAF, most were embedded in RAF squadrons. Only in Bomber Command did Canada have an identifiable presence. No. 6 Group (RCAF) was formed on 25 October 1942 with eight squadrons. At the peak of its strength it consisted of 14 squadrons and was headquartered near Harrogate, Yorkshire. No 6. Group flew 40,822 operational sorties during the war, mostly against the industrial complexes of the Ruhr Valley.

The crest of No. 6 group was a red maple leaf superimposed over the white rose of Yorkshire. Their motto was Sollertia et Ingenium ("Initiative and Skill").

The workhorse of No. 6 group was the Lancaster B X which was built in Canada by Victory Aircraft.

Looks like I was one of those that forgot to mark their mission 'sent'. Sorry about that. Tracking shows that delivery was attempted on the 26th. That's pretty darn good service!

  8. It was actually the US participants that I was most anxious to hear from. There was a lot of surprised people last year when the postal rates shot up just before the end of the mathtrade. Many said they wouldn't be trading anymore.

I'll start a thread for the 10th International Mathtrade in a few weeks.

Oh, and I'm outside the US myself. :)

  9. Adding one new challenge for New Brunswick and three new ones for Nova Scotia. There will be another one soon for New Brunswick but I don't have the details yet.

  10. Vitesse Arnhem will commemorate the Battle of Arnhem this weekend by wearing a strip consisting of the regiment’s famous colours.

    article-2208423-15376A07000005DC-123_634x434.jpg

A Vitesse player salutes a veteran of the British 1st Airbourne Division last season when the club also commemorated the occasion.

  11. Operation Berlin was the name given to the rescue mission to evacuate the remaining members of the 1st British Airborne Division. The 20th and 23rd Field Companies of the Royal Canadian Engineers were able to ferry 2500 soldiers across the Rhine to the safety of Driel on the night of September 25/26.

  12. I think on its own your caching name is fine. Even on a coin. It is the context that is important. If you put an image from the original 1968 show (or the 2005 show, or Coolio's debut album) you might have some 'splainin to do. :)

  13. Anyone producing a coin with copyrighted material is opening themselves up to legal action unless they obtain permission from whoever owns the copyright. When I produced my Bob Dylan coin I signed an agreement with Milton Glaser for the front artwork, but could not reach a deal with Sony for the picture I wanted to use on the back. I ended up creating my own. I have also had to stop using poppies on my Remembrance Day coins because the Royal Canadian Legion owns the copyright on the combination of the poppy and remembrance.

I think for now geocoins have been too much of a niche market with relatively small numbers being produced of any one design for them to be noticed. I have never heard of legal action being taken against a designer. But it would only take one hit on a google search or ebay listing for the right (or wrong) person to take notice.

  14. Some folks have seen photos of a fourth edition floating around. This is the White Rhino edition and is antique bronze finish with a special metallic white coating painted on the 3d side.

    whiterhino.jpg

There were only 10 of this edition produced. Some have been given away to friends or as door prizes at events. A few are being auctioned off on ebay to raise money for upcoming geocaching events.

There is one on ebay right now: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/151102229270?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

  15. That's beautiful! Wish I could attend your event. I was in Auckland about 15 years ago, but only one night on my way to Fiji. Would love to visit longer next time. :)

For now I will have to settle for a couple of coins. Anyone trading the antique gold edition?
