  1. Strongman can have have a tattoo on his right arm and a DIFFERENT tattoo on his left arm??? :)

The screen print setup covers the whole side of a coin, so placing different tattoos on each arm still counts as one screen print. If you want to put a different tattoo on the back of the coin then you will have to pay the second setup fee.

  2. I have started using a different mint and they have some different standard colours. For IHE they can actually use any Pantone colour and make it a translucent. But they don't guarantee that it will match exactly and the plating underneath will change it even further.

Marble and Pearl can also be created from any Pantone colour, though the processes will change them slightly from the true Pantone original.

They do only have 4 glow in the dark colours, and can't to screen printed glow in the dark. :(

  3. I have come up with a tessellating coin design that I think would be perfect as a group project.

    The Geocaching Strongman

    Strongman.jpg

The coin measures 40mm x 32.5mm x 3mm thick. It will be trackable at geocaching.com and have a unique icon.

Samples are currently underway and I will be creating several versions to sell individually and in packs of 5.

    Strongman_group_sm.jpg

But you can create your own unique version too! You can select your own finish and colours on front (6) and back (4). The cost for a batch of 20 coins will be $150 US which works out to $7.50 US per coin. Some effects, such as antique or satin finish, or glitter enamel will increase the cost per coin.

You can also give your Strongman tattoos! For an extra $25 US per side, you can create a single colour tattoo that will be screen printed on your coins! Your tattoo design can be placed on one arm, both arms, or (for the reverse) both arms and the back! I will help you with the design if you require it.

    Strongman_tattoo.jpg

Final prices will be determined after your design is completed and approved and you will have an opportunity to confirm the price. Shipping will be $20 within the US and Canada and $35 everywhere else. If you order more than 20 coins I will inform you of the shipping cost before you confirm your order.

If you are interested, please send an email to info@phdcoins.ca or sign up now on the Strongman Geocoin Group Project Page.

  4. Ordered the set, now i need to convince Chuck to do some caches in the Netherlands :-)

I'll be coming to the Netherlands in 2016. I'll keep a couple of the AE versions reserved for that trip. :)

    FYI:

The remaining coins are now available in the web store.

  5. Let's take a look at the numbers.

If a seller is asking $3.50 to ship a single coin from one location to another in the US:

$0.32 goes to eBay (9% fee)

    $0.40 goes to Paypal (2.9% + .30 fee)

$2.32 for USPS first class parcel (the cheapest rate)

The seller is receiving $0.46 for packaging, labels, and possibly gas money to get to the post office.

You may feel this is gouging, I'm not sure. But they're not getting rich off of it. I don't understand why you feel it is a crime to pay a third again the cost of the coin for shipping, but have no problem requiring the seller to lose a third the cost of the coin.

If sellers increase their starting price to include the shipping, you're still paying the same amount if you want that coin. And what about sellers that sell internationally? If you want to see 'free shipping' on a listing, that means the seller will have to build in possible international shipping rates into their starting price. That $10 coin will now have to be listed at $18.00. Including the shipping fee in starting price also removes the option to combine shipping charges if you buy more than one coin from a seller.

  6. I just got word that the first coin I've been involved in designing is finished production!

Background: In 2010 a group of us local cachers in Medicine Hat got together and set up a yearly weekend full of events and called it Southern Alberta Weekend or SAW. In 2012 a small faction of this group put it upon themselves to create a power trail series in an attempt to further attract other cachers to our city and called themselves Power Saw.

A few months ago I got together with this group and we discussed making a coin. Using an idea originally given to me by wavector and the pathtag they have been making for the past couple years we finally came along this blueprint. It is 2" by 3mm thick fully shaped so it looks like it could fit in and function with a miniature chop saw. It depicts their power saw mascot on the one side and the 3 main trails and their respective starting coordinates on the other. Of course fully trackable on geocaching.com with it's own icon!

Sorry had to express my jubilance somewhere and the happy dance just wasn't doing it today!

It looks like there will be two Powersaw coins this summer. Production is just wrapping up on another shaped coin using the same vector art for the SAW V event. I'll let the organizers reveal the design if that is their wish.

  7. Here is the first look at a sample. This edition is satin silver with smoky effect on the recessed areas.

It will not be available for sale as this is an edition I created for dropping in caches during my travels this summer.

The rest of the samples will be here next week.

Very nice. Any chance your travels will take you to Florida, we can name a lot of caches down here you could drop some in.

Sorry, I'll be on the extreme far side of the continent -- in Alaska. ;)

Initial offering will be by pre-sale starting on Friday, June 6th at noon Eastern time.

  9. I was actually approached about making medallions for hiking sticks earlier this year. I wasn't willing to make a product as cheap and flimsy as the client wanted though. Perhaps I should revisit this as the quotes I got were fairly reasonable.

In the meantime, I think Landsharkz has them.

  11. I did a group coin in 2013 and will be doing another one next year for the 15th anniversary of geocaching.

Was an offer to participate ever posted here in the geocoin forum? I don't recall seeing it .. but I could be mistaken.

The offer was posted here in April 2013 (http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=310065). We ended up with 15 participants and 20 different coins.

I'll be starting the group project for next year a little earlier. Probably in February.

  12. If you go to geocaching.com and select the 'Shop' drop down you will see that the second option is International Retailers. This will give you a list of authorized retailers in other countries.

  13. very fun. but where's the mountie. i want to see a mountie! beautiful design as usual. :-)

Sorry, no mounties. The RCMP are pretty serious about their brand. In fact, back in the late '90s they handed over licensing to the Walt Disney Corporation. Messing with the RCMP is one thing, but nobody messes with Disney when it comes to licensing! :D

  14. Who wouldn't expect great things from the world's second largest land mass? This is a nation with enough prosperity, natural beauty and hockey talent to serve a population a hundred times its size. But Canada is more than elbow room, real beer, respected banks, Mounties on horseback, the good view of Niagara Falls and poutine.

This country could really brag about all the stuff that truly sets it apart!

    But we won't.

    ;)

Instead, I thought I would make a coin.

    Strong and Free Geocoin:

    45mm (1.75") x 3.5mm

    2D with recessed layers

    Translucent enamels

    Two-tone metal finishes

Trackable at geocaching.com with a custom icon

    Samples are currently underway...
