My best ever, and never to be repeated, month thanks to the proliferation of micros in London parks. Clearly, it's still not enough to put me in the top rankings!

Does Anyone Know Tktg?
Firth of Forth replied to Firth of Forth's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Thanks for the suggestions about TKTG. Hopefully the TB will eventually reappear somwhere. It's senssible advice to close this thread, and I'd love to do so, but don't know how. Perhaps one of the approvers could do so? -
I think you mean Britain's Highest Geocache. Risky business walking 4000 feet up a mountain.

It took me a while to find it, but here is what started this: GPS tracking in a bottle -
3rd Scottish Geocachers Day Out
Firth of Forth replied to Firth of Forth's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Ok Snaik, I've been meaning to ask: What's a 'ceithern'? I presume that a member of the Wild Geese is someone who has had the privilege of completing Way of the Wild Geese? I think that its you and me meeting at Tolmount next Sunday. No other confirmations for Option 1 so far. If I bag a pheasant or grouse on my way there, will you show me how to prepare it for the pot? -
In the relentless and enthusiastic pursuit of our outdoor hobby, injuries are to be expected; but will they deter us?? Not at all! After more than a year and a half of geocaching, I had my first injury a few days ago at The 1645 Bug. Wet leaves rather than wet moss were to blame. I decided that the best thing to do was to keep on caching to prevent my back from seizing up. Actually driving the car has been more painful than walking. It's getting better thankfully.

Does Anyone Know Tktg?

From the "apparent accomplice in his abuse of geocaching.com" I know for a fact that bpendreigh tried to get in touch with The Forester via several other email addresses. He didn't get a reply, and I presume that he therefore contacted The Forester through geocaching.com, and this was in response to something that The Forester publicly declared in the Forums. Is this really an abuse of the website? Not all emails passing between geocachers via the website are entirely geocaching related. It's not a private club; anyone can join, even if they do not intend to be active cachers. Anyone can read the Forums. There have been several other instances in the past, that I know of, when journalists have subscribed to the website in order to make queries. I'm reluctant to perpetuate this argument, but perhaps the approvers could comment, in general rather than specifically related to this case, what their views are. Once again I apologise to The Forester for mentioning to my friend who is both passionate about films as well as being a film journalist, what was actually very interesting background information to the film Local Hero. I assumed, obviously worngly, that it was alright for him to follow up something that was already in the public domain. I assumed that when approached The Forester would have the choice of either welcoming the approach or saying that he wasn't interested. -

Now Ullium, there's no excuse for not reaching the 200 mark by next Sunday!! Looks like I will definitely be buying you that drink! -

I thought of that Snaik, but have no idea how to tell what the real name might be! I could perhaps trawl through logs of other nearby caches, but it's probably more trouble than its worth. The entry in the logbook was Sept 4th, so I wonder if the TB, owned by matt-bellamy, will ever reappear. -
Does Anyone Know Tktg?
Firth of Forth replied to Firth of Forth's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Perhaps I can clarify this. The Forester, some months ago, posted a note in the Forums about a film called Local Hero and his involvement with the character portrayals. I mentioned this to a friend of mine who is a freelance journalist who writes about films and film people, and who I thought would be interested in this previously unknown background to the film. Bpendreigh sent The Forester an email, and copied it to me, in which he stated that he is a friend of mine and that I had pointed out his post. This wasn't commercial spam, but a genuine interest and wondered if The Forester would like to participate in the writing of an article, and I'm sorry if The Forester was offended by the approach. I hope that this clears the matter up. -
On a visit to one of my caches today, I found that there was a log in the logbook from a cacher(s) called TKTG, who wrote that they took a TB. However they have not logged their find on the internet. I can't locate them through the geocaching.com 'lookup another player' either. Any help appreciated.

3rd Scottish Geocachers Day Out
Firth of Forth replied to Firth of Forth's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
It might be a good idea for those who wish to do Option 1 in a group to post a note with their intention, to make sure that we don't leave without you! -
Ok Ullium, where are these diabolical caches then?? I have to say that the overall quality of caches in Scotland seems to me much superior to the ones that I have been sampling in England. London caches are just far too boring - micros hidden under park benches for the most part. While some of the locations of other English caches have been OK, the contents of all but one cache have been extremely poor, and many of them completely soaked through. My English sample is quite small, and Im sure that there are plenty of good challenging puzzle caches as well as more scenic ones than those I have done. But I can only think of a very few out of more than 200 Scottish caches that I have done that I wouldnt have bothered with.

After a few drinks one night with an old university chum visiting from Australia (I converted him to geocaching by email), we got carried away with the notion of me turning myself into a roving cache, a bit like the moving 'Ye Olde Survey Monuments cache' as a way to attract and meet single men. In the cold light of day, it didn't seem like such a good idea!

Consecutive Days Caching
Firth of Forth replied to Inukshuk and Arwen's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I've managed two non-stop caching marathons. One weekend in the summer 29th-31st July on the west coast of Scotland, 18 finds and 1 DNF. Some of these were multis and most of them involved good long walks. But even better was 28th-30th May up in Aviemore on the weekend of the 2nd annual Scottish cache bash - 20 caches over 3 days and again, long walks for quite a few of them. Not very long in terms of days, but I was certainly knackered after each one! -

Watch out for two new caches by Team Clova - one close by the hotel and the other probably in Glen Isla. -
Congratulations HH!! Hope you weren't caught on CCTV sneaking your way through the security fence! Jodel's Brainbuster

Cache Recommendations Doon South
Firth of Forth replied to Firth of Forth's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I always do that, but it can give rise to some unpleasant reactions! I doubt that anyone would accept a Scottish £1 note - we still have them up here, though they are getting rare. Your suggested route sounds interesting - I will check it out on the map. Thanks. -

Firth of Forth replied to Firth of Forth's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
What a shame if you can't come Ullium. However I would imagine that there will be others who don't fancy the long walk, and will just turn up at the hotel - where the rates are very reasonable (£30 incl breakfast). But there will, I'm sure, be other SGDO events in the near future. What was it you said you needed a washing up brush in your backpack for again? -

Many thanks for the replies, both on this thread and via email. Im looking forward to experiencing English caching! -
I'm not sure how long it will take me to drive from Edinburgh to Lymm, but I'm wondering whether I will be down in the area in time to do a cache or two before the meet at 1.30pm. Does anyone have any suggestions of nearby easyish caches?

3rd Scottish Geocachers Day Out
Firth of Forth replied to Firth of Forth's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
You don't have to do the walk to join in the event at the hotel afterwards Ullium. You could do some more gentle caching nearby and meet up at the hotel at 4pm - which is when the event 'officially' starts! -

Sorry Robert, but if you will go gallivanting around the world for weeks on end...... No, I don't think I would have wanted to do that particular Sydney cache! Hope you're having a good time down under. Certainly looks like you're finding plenty of time for caching! -
