No, I don't. No particular reason, except that its not been a problem finding caches - and I have a few under my belt. Taking time to take a number of fixes without WAAS does not appear to have resulted in poor coordinates for caches that I have set either. Perhaps it depends what you want to use your GPS for and the degree of accuracy required?

Lost And Found (again)
Firth of Forth replied to wildlifewriter's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Moral of the story: ALWAYS put your GPSr into your backpack as soon as you have found the cache, and certainly before opening the cache or doing anything else. Having nearly lost my GPS at this cache, and witnessing Pooter's near miss at this cache, it is something that I have trained myself to do. -
You could try emailing Roolku, who is German and is from Berlin, but lives in Edinburgh. I know that he was there at Xmas and tried some caches. He even set one there based on the Water of Leith cache trail in Edinburgh. I am sure that he would be happy to advise.

A question: Having recently jointly organised an event, I'm not sure whether to count this as a 'placed cache' or as a 'found cache'. Do both organisers claim the 30 points, or the first listed only?

Bump - everything is set for Saturday. We will just have to hope that it stops snowing by then!

Done A Geohike (from My Site) Recently?
Firth of Forth replied to davester's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
On April 3rd, the second day of the Scottish Geocachers Weekend on Bute, there will be a good number of geocachers walking the West Island Way geohike. Hopefully someone may wish to write a short report for you! -
You'll enjoy 'In the Ayr' then, which I just did yesterday, plus a few other local caches. I can recommend 'Peden's Cove', and 'Say One For Me When You're Down'.
-
Well, you will just have to slow down then! Do something else for a change - relax perhaps?
-
You could celebrate both your birthday and your 1000th at the Scottish Geocachers Weekened on Bute - I'll certainly buy you a drink!!
-
Congratulations from me too!! Only six months since achieving 300 on Ben Nevis too.
-
WOW!! Another quick century. Well done Paul.

I've had a few disasters whilst out caching - mostly involving my car (skidded on ice, speeding ticket) but found the caches I was after on all occasions. £150 excess payable; loss of most of my 9 years no claims bonus and £60 speeding ticket. On this one, my injury prevented me from retrieving the cache, but luckily there was no cost involved!

Free Garmin Compatible Uk Topo Maps
Firth of Forth replied to Remote Part's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
You're lucky!! Dabbling with this has screwed up Mapsource completely, removing it from my computer and reinstalling it hasn't worked, and system restore didn't either. AARRGGHH!! Time to forget trying to be a techie. -

Free Garmin Compatible Uk Topo Maps

Guess I'm going to have to be walked through this very slowly! Thanks for the tips P&T - I have now located the disguised .reg file whish doesnt show the .reg when you look at the list of files from essentials. However, clicking on it or any of the files produces a check box asking to choose between 3 options about how the waypoints were created. Trying any of these produces no apparent result. What am I doing wrong? -
Free Garmin Compatible Uk Topo Maps
Firth of Forth replied to Remote Part's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
OK! I have just spent around half an hour trying to work these all out, but need some advice from the techies. I have downloaded N55 N56 N57 and the Essentials OK and unzipped them. None of the files is a .reg file which the download page says you need. Do I have to open these files in Mapsource first and then send them to the GPS? Have tried this but it didnt work. Apologies if I have missed something obvious. PS How can I check whether the extrex has enough memory for these maps? -
Quick Question For The Good People At The Bbc
Firth of Forth replied to Simply Paul's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I have 4722 caches on my GSAK file - think that's all of them up to a day or so ago. No idea how many cachers though. -
The 'Edinburgh Cache Gang' will be in attendance. This is going to be a brilliant weekend away. Fantastic scenery, great caches, two consecutive days of caching, great company....what more could you ask for? Oh the weather...well we shall just have to order up a sunny weekend; it has been know to happen!
-
By all means!! The more the merrier - and we already have an Irish rep coming. How about a Welsh as well?? You will also find that not all of us are actually of Scots descent; a pretty cosmopolitan lot.
-
Paul - but that's the whole point of Geodateline! Getting obsessed geocaching addicts together, so the dating is done while geocaching!! Sigurd - are you having me on? Where have you been? Oh I know - at sea. Ok GSOH - good sense of humour.
-
Oh dear! I hope that I haven't made the rating system too tough!!
-
How about a different rating system? 1 point: own GPS 2 points: own GPS + cachemobile + good income for petrol and geocaching holidays 3 points: all of the above + lots of free time to team up to go geocaching 4 points: all of the above + GSOH 5 points: all of the above + a geocaching addiction Being single and unattached obligatory of course.
-
You can add FeeBz and Seiken (going to twist their arms to come!). That makes 44.

Ooops! Last time I looked I was a woman.
