  1. A CITO is undoubtedly a very worth cause, and noone would disagree with that. It is lamentable that personal differences have got in the way of this event. I have been maintaining a discreet silence, and would have continued to do so. It is however, a matter of great concern to me to find out through third parties that The Forester has been emailing others and threatening to file a formal complaint with g.com against me. For what? Apparently I was in some inexplicable manner holding up the registration of the CITO event, by reason of being an American lady with a multi cache starting at his chosen event coordinates. Having received no communication from The Forester on any matter related to this event, I find this very odd. However, a solution to whatever the problem was has apparently been found and the event is now up and running. I think that enough has now been said, and I sincerely hope that Scottish cachers (and others) will not let these matters influence their support for this event. The Forester must let me be the judge of whether it is appropriate for me to attend or not.
  2. Gary, Your efforts with the mag are much appreciated. I know that it's been a lot of hard work at times. A write up about the recent SG weekend event on Bute will be on its way to you soon.
  3. Drinks are definitely planned! I'll be there - just need to know which pub and what time. Watch this space for further details nearer the time.
  4. Thanks very much for the information everyone - it's always great to get such helpful and rapid responses for this sort of question on this forum. I will do some homework on the suggestions, and formulate a caching plan. There is already a suggestion to meet for a drink in the evening, if any local cachers are interested (June 16th).
  5. I will be staying one night in Manchester in June to attend a conference the next day. I did a search for nearby caches. There is only one within a mile, which I cant do as it is part of the spectrum series and necessitates finding other caches first. Are there any caches that are easily accessible without a car from central Manchester? I will be staying near the river in between the stations.
  6. Congratulations Brian! A well deserved milestone! Don't forget to move your name up the Hall of Fame table.
  7. You might be best asking this in the geocaching ireland forum, where I'm sure you will get lots of helpful advice.
  8. It's not compulsory. This one had the names of some fetching Pennsylvania towns on it, including : Paradise Bird-in-Hand Blueball Intercourse and Virginville I'm not kidding.
  9. I went up to the Scottish Geocacher's bash on Bute last weekend. I stopped off in Co. Durham for a couple of nights on the way up to do a few caches there. In all I covered 1100 miles and logged finds on 38 caches. If you add up the cost of fuel, accommodation, food, beer and assorted other stuff. It works out at about £7 per cache But they were worth every penny, weren't they John?
  10. It's a shame that this TB missed the Scottish Geocachers' Weekend event on the Isle of Bute, which was a fantastic experience for everyone. There is also the 3rd annual Scottish Cache Bash in Talmine on the far North coast of Scotland on the last weekend in May. If someone can send me the TB before May 27th, I can take it there, and would send it on for the event in June.
  11. But you may well have done! Except that it was probably a glass of wine. Care No More (or Sally's retreat) LordLucan
  12. Ooops! I spoke too soon. Despite setting a new cache this week, taking his total to 37 placed caches, Snaik has been outstripped by Billy Twigger. BT has just released 5 new caches on the Isle of Bute for the SGDO weekend next week, taking his total of placed caches to 40. He now holds the title of 'Most Prolific Scottish Cache Setter'.
  13. Congratulations to Snaik, 'Brigand sometimes Cateran' in Perth, Scotland on gaining his 200th cache at East Lothian Quartet - Berwick Law yesterday. Snaik's other claim to fame is that he is the most prolific cache setter in Scotland, with a score of 36 caches (many on the tops of Munros). And I understand that there are still plans for more...........
  14. No, you haven't been duped. As I said in the first post, I received a message from him yesterday evening. He was out on a caching frenzied day and no doubt has not yet had time to do his logs.
  15. If you look at Haggis Hunter's profile, he's done some good bookmark lists of the Edinburgh caches. There are lots of great ones - just depends if you want to climb hills for the views, pick up some history, or pack as many in as possible.
  16. If you do a search, you may also wish to include the word 'motel' as in this cache
  17. Message received at 6.18pm announcing this magnificent achievement. Congratulations John! So, that's a pint you owe me and a pint I owe you when we meet on Bute.
  18. Only two weeks to go! Get organised now! So far, about 20 cachers are due to attend.
  19. Thanks everyone. In fact, Pooter beat me comfortably by two hours, although I didn't get his text announcement until a little later. That's the last time I tell Wlw any of my sneaky plans! And as for handcuffing my children to radiators - don't tell the Social Work Department, OK? I won't be racing Pooter to 600 - it's far too exhausting! Anyway there simply aren't enough unfound caches left in Scotland. Don't know what we are going to do!
  20. This cache should have been your UK companion: it's in a wee village called Moscow in Scotland.
  21. Hi aRRKS, Yes - magicwebby are active around the west of Scotland, and recently attended the last event at Ratho Park. I'm sure that they will drop off your TB somewhere soon. (He's a minister so I'm sure that he will do the right thing!)
  22. You are missing my point completely, which was that if a cacher does not/has not had WAAS enabled on their GPS, it will not/won't have been a hindrance to them in finding or placing caches. I accept that having WAAS enabled can improve accuracy, when it is available, but it doesn't really matter as far as geocaching is concerned. If you are surveying or doing something else requiring very precise coordinates, then it will matter. If I own a V reg car that gets me from A to B adequately, then I don't necessarily need to trade it in for a 05 model to get me there. Once again, I object to the use of the phrase "shut up mentality"; actually, it seems to me (and others apparently) that it belongs to you. Now back to the lighter side of Hadrian's wall.
  23. An excellent event report, by Wildlifewriter, can be found at geocachingtoday.com
  24. It's clearly too soon still for me to post anything in this Forum; I'll go back to the dark side of Hadrian's wall.
