  1. Brilliant achievement!! I stand in awe! And will buy you both a drink on Thursday.
  2. This thread had sunk down four pages, so bump. Only a week to go now. Malcolm powerbook fanatic has very kindly offered to ferry me about for an afternoon's caching before we attend the event. I can't think of many other situations in which I would arrange to meet a complete stranger and jump into their car! (However, if noone hears from me again, you will know where to look! ).
  3. Another century was reached in Scotland on a trip to the far North after attending the annual cache bash, by the Tupperware Party at Ask Ivy. Well done!!
  4. I did make sure that my claim was valid before announcing it. Many thanks to everyone. And btw, I was not racing Pooter to 600, and will not be racing him 700. but I am already a quarter of the way there
  5. Roolku grabbed his 400th cache in the far North on the day of the 3rd Scottish annual cache bash. That's 400 caches in a year and two months, and most of them by bicycle.
  6. Many thanks everyone. It's certainly been a weekend of milestones! And btw Pooter and I were not racing each other to 600. Though I did wonder why he left home 4 days before the Scottish cache bash on a frenzied caching spree.
  7. DESPITE the appalling weather on Saturday, we had an amazing event day. 'Team Tongue' formed especially for the day (Highland Nick, Billy Twigger, Pooter and myself). With over 2,000 caches between us, the only thing to do was to carry on regardless and bag all of the 8 event caches. We set off a 9am and were back at 8pm (we had an hour off for a well deserved lunch and to dry off some clothes!). A huge thank you to BT for being our chauffeur for the day, to my companions for a great day out, and huger thanks to SSmokin & Mr Rhu & Neafearjustbeer for a stupendously well organised event. The day was rounded off nicely with Team Tongue's (-BT + Allieballie) quiz victory and the proceeds will be funnelled back into a new cache for Scotland. As Nick said, watch this space.... Now all I have to do is write logs for 26 caches.
  8. Yep, he's a star!!! I was woken at 7.20am with a text message that read: "Mission accomplished 06.45. It's bloody cold up here". Many congratulations John; it's just a shame that you weren't able to do it up in the North with the rest of us. But that one was certainly worth the 1000th!
  9. Let me be the second to congratulate Pooter on his 600th.....very well done! What is even more amazing was that it was only on the way back to the car tha he realised that he had just completed his 600th cache.. and therefore we missed the commemorative photo. It must have been the riveting company and conversation...or maybe it was just the miserable weather and the sodden feet.
  10. Less than 48 hours to go now; some very keen folk (Pooter, Roolku) have already left! Getting packed up and setting off in the morning, and looking forward to it. I should have some celebrating to do as well.
  11. The cache should still be in the tunnel, but the cache page had to be archived because someone came along and padlocked the gates to the tunnel. There is even a TB marooned in the cache. So, if you were there, and were able to access the tunnel, it would be a good idea to let the cache owner, Pooter, know.
  12. I'm very glad that someone will be able to carry on with geocachingtoday, as it would be a shame to let it fold, and for Gary's hard work to be wasted. I'm sure that the Scottish geocaching community will be keen to continue to provide write ups of the various events that are held North of the border.
  13. That's brilliant! I didn't realise that this 'event' was going to be a real event!! Count me in (obviously)! Looking forward to it! So, that's the 3rd annual Scottish Cache Bash this weekend, Manchester a few weeks later, and the 2nd annual Irish Cache Bash the weekend following that. I think that my children might just start to say that I'm neglecting them!
  14. On our way back from the Scottish Geocachers' Weekend on Bute, the Edinburgh Cache Gang (Haggis Hunter, Roolku and myself) had our funniest geocaching experience explaining the activity to the local (one and only) taxi driver on the island of Great Cumbrae, who jumped out of the taxi and ran off to try and find the cache before the rest of us had even got out of the car. See our logs here
  15. Thanks for the effort from those involved in putting this complicated event together. It's a great opportunity to visit a city that I have always wanted to go to. Put me down as a definite, as my flight has been booked for 3 months now! If the event isn't in Dublin itself, then some detailed information about how to get to it from the city centre (like which Dart train and where to get it) would be very useful.
  16. So, just to confirm this and bump the topic up again: For any cachers in the area, please come and have a drink (in Scotland that can mean anything from 1 to 12 pints) at the Beer House, Angel Street, Manchester on Thursday June 16th. I'm not sure what time would suit people best. Should we say from 7pm onwards? Does the place serve food?
  17. Great! Thanks to you guys for organising this.
  18. The organisers may have to make an executive decision; it will be impossible to please everyone!
  19. I'm not coming on the ferry, so I don't have an opinion about that part of the event. As for the venue in Dublin, I'm happy to go along with whatever the organisers decide. I appreciate that it may not be easy to find a central venue with easy access to the people coming from the port, that is a suitable size and that serves decent food. Many thanks for all your efforts so far. I'm sure that they are appreciated by geocachers.
  20. I'm afraid that I don't agree. I doubt that 'name and shame' threads would do much good for the caching community, nor would they encourage people new to the hobby. There are a number of ways to encourage people to stick the the rules and the guidelines, but that isn't one of them.
  21. ....is the correct answer.; honesty in terms that children can understand is generally the best policy. But a bit premature to be sure that it is lost just yet.
  22. Congratulations from me too! I always seem to be trailing just behind you!
  23. Here's a very unusual find yesterday in Edinburgh, Scotland; not only that, but it was the first find for this geocacher.
  24. Nice account Gary; brought back memories of the great time that we had at the Scottish Geocachers' Weekend on Bute.
