....But we are hiring a car to travel between Banff and Jasper, so lots of caching is possible on that route.
Lots is a relative term... That is all within national parks and placing caches in a national parks is quite difficult. Thus the amount of caches is limited.
The train is nice, but if you had time, driving leaves a lot more room for interesting places to visit. After the train are you driving to Calgary and then flying to Toronto?
Yes - I have seen that there are not hundreds of caches in the National parks, but more than enough to keep us busy for a few days. We are going by train (again) from Jasper to Toronto. We are a bit short on time, and trying to pack a lot in a few weeks.

sorry repeated post due to timeout

If your driving?
This is a must do
GC80CB Othelo Tunnel
This is right in Hope
GC12PG Home Gold Mill
A litle way up the Fraser Canyon but worth the trip
GCA288 Crossing the Fraser
What's your route and geomobile?
Hi I should have explained that we are travelling from Vancouver to Banff by train (stopping in Kamloops overnight). But we are hiring a car to travel between Banff and Jasper, so lots of caching is possible on that route.

Well, a trip to Canada wouldn't be complete without finding one of my caches. Now that sounds a little immodest but I mention it because you've already found one of my caches in Dundee. If I had to pick one to recommend during your visit, I think I'd go with GC178KP. May should make for a pleasant outing - and a bit of exercise too!
Hi there Couparangus. Yes, a very long time ago, I did you cache in Angus - and if I remember correctly, nearly broke my ankle putting my foot down a rabbit hole trying to get to it!
I will put your Toronto cache on the list and see if it's close to where we are staying. Thanks

I see your a DrWho Fan, might be a little wet in spring, but summer is nice for this one:

Well one member of our usual team is, but he won't be with us on this trip I'm afraid. However, I think I could get him excited about solving the puzzle for us! Thanks.

FoF... fancy finding you here!
If you want to take a 95 min scenic journey through the Gulf Islands (maybe see some orca, porpoises, eagles, kayakers, sailboats), hop on a BC Ferry and come to Victoria for our Victoria Day celebrations!
We have an incredible selection of caches from urban to rural to long scenic ocean-view hikes and all points in between.
You're welcome to stop by LSHQ - we'll be here for sure that weekend... busy with out-of-town cachers coming by and getting ready for our trip to Tennessee (GeoWoodstock) the following week.
We have some Bookmark lists that you could use and I'll make sure they're freshly updated if you think you'll be over on the Island.
Now that sounds like a great idea. Just a few questions, though. When is Victoria day? From the map it looks like the ferry goes to Swartz Bay, or is there one to Victoria. What's transport like on the island? Or are there some caches accessible from the ferry port? Questions, questions!! We have most of a weekend free before Jack has to work, then I'll carry on the caching for another 3 days so I should have time to explore a bit.
Edited to add: Just seen a link on your website to ferry schedules, so can ignore at least one of those questions! I suppose a better question is which would be the best ferry route/island to visit that I could pick up some nice caches on foot on a day tour?

If you’re in BC during the long weekend you’ve gota check out our event: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...b5-02268cf927c7
And the website: http://www.greatcoalrush.blogspot.com/
Give it a peek and let us know what you think!
We'll just miss that, I'm afraid - will be in Banff by then.

If in Toronto, make the trip down to Niagara Falls - impressive place! Do some of the caches down in the gorge like this one: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GCJPTQ
That looks like a good one, certainly. I have been to Niagara Falls before (as has Jack at a separate time) but it's always worth a visit. Thanks for the recommendation.

Och aye! you're comin at the wrong time!
visit Fergus anyway, some good caches nearby!
Thanks! We only have two days in Toronto so probably wont make it there. But have a great time in August.

Jack Aubrey and I are looking for recommendations of 'must do' caches in Vancouver, Banff/Lake Louis/Jasper area and Toronto during a 3 week visit in May. We like all sorts of caches: easy/hard, urban/remote, though puzzles are not particularly our speciality! Many thanks in advance.

Living a long way away from a location does not preclude you from placing a cache; I have caches in Thailand (City of Stars) and in Spain (Huan Robre and ..Y Con Vistas) which are maintained by locals. You need to give contact details for your local maintainer when you submit for publication. It would, however, be easy for someone new to caching to wrongly deduce from seeing such listings that 'holiday' caches' are permissible.

Does this apply to the National Trust for Scotland, too?

Go to events. I met Jack Aubrey at my first CITO. That was over 3 years ago......

It's very annoying!!
It's only by keeping an eye on this forum and spotting a relevant thread that I can be sure to find out when and how to get the OS maps back. Would there be an easier way to keep updated on the OS script?

There were only about 10 caches in Edinburgh and the surrounding area.

Neither of these features are working, still. Is there any other way to obtain caches along a route other than via the instructions on the 'caches along a route page'?
-
I did 2 routes over the weekend and they both worked fine. How are you creating yours?
What error were you seeing with th addtional waypoints?
This is the message I get (have tired it umpteen times with the same response):
"Sorry! We encountered an error when requesting that page!"
I am following the instructions given on the create a route page and using google earth, and saving the route as .kml file. I've done this plenty of times before without any problems.
-
Yesterday and today I have tried several times to create waypoints for 'questions to answer' on a new cache. I am still getting a g.com error message.
Today I tried to upload some routes created on google earth. They don't appear to be uploading at all so that I can save them.
Anyone else having similar difficulties or is it just me?

That's a good point, does anyone have any dates to avoid? or ones that are good? We were thinking a wednesday evening.
Jack Aubrey and I are hoping to have a weekend in Oxford at the very end of May, as I have a reunion to go to (although we won't know until much closer to the time if we can manage due to extended family ill health). I realise that this event is usually a mid-week one, but just in case a weekend event is planned, Friday 30th or Saturday 31st would be ideal for us.

For those of you who would like to know how Ewan is doing:
I've had a nice email from Ewan's Dad. There continue to be ups and downs for Ewan. He has suffered from episodes of high temperature caused by various infections over the last few months, which have been a setback for him. He is due to have an operation to remove kidney stones which may be at the root of these infections. It has been postponed on at least one occasion due to his temperature, but will hopefully happen soon. All this has meant longer periods in bed, less access to physiotherapy and less computer practice.
His family have been able to sell their house and find a bungalow nearby, which when altered will accommodate his wheelchair.

If Fife is a Kingdom..... who is the King?
Having spent the last 17 years working in the Kingdom of Fife, I have often wondered this myself and your post prompted me to finally find out.
It's very interesting and more can be found here. The last King was in the 7th century apparently, and he was called Fibh, from which Fife seems to have got its name.
Fife was described as a "beggar's mantle fringed with gold' by King James VI of Scotland (Ok James 1 too), which is a description that I find very apt and applicable today. Some of the interior ex-mining towns are very depressing especially on a dreich day, but the coastal villages and the rural landsacpe further north and east is wonderful. All attendees at the event should find places that they never knew about and lots of interesting things to see. That is, if they have any time to look beyond 110 new caches
