  1. That kind of thing is what we in the Fire and Rescue business refer to as "not too smart".

You might consider having some kind of flotation device along just in case. And I don't mean a pool toy. Get yourself an approved life jacket. Also, don't go alone, make sure someone is on the bank who can call for help if needed.

We really don't want to read a story about a cacher drowning.

    Be careful,

  2. Just to correct the location, the cache in question is near Bridgeport, OHIO, not West Virginia. It is actually on Wheeling Island, near Wheeling, WV.

I live in B-port, WV and the cache is 60.5 miles NW of my location.

No big deal, It just caught my eye.

  3. It looks like this thread has been revived after being somewhat dormant. Great!

A while back I asked if anybody could come up with something for me. I realize that it was in the middle of summer, the best caching weather, and people were busy hiding and seeking.

Now it seems, with winter setting in, folks have more time to create some really cool avatars.

    So, any ideas?

I fly-fish for trout here in the mountains of West Virginia, and often combine fishing trips with geocaching.

    Thanks in advance,

I actually like the 'needs archived' thing. I talk like that regularly and I've never been to W VA, ever. But I suggest that the sentence be refined.

    Careful!

  5. My son told me about Geocaching 3 or 4 years ago. My first reaction was " that is just about the stupidest thing I have ever heard of, besides, it will cut into my fishing time".

Then, this spring, when I found a cache by accident, contacted the owner because it needed moved due to some construction work in the area, and learned more, I was hooked.

Maybe kids know more than we give them credit for.

  6. I have one of those. I have found that the accuracy is pretty good. Easy to use, has an SD expansion slot and Lithium batteries last a really long time. I didn't get the color screen, which would have been nice, but costs a good bit more.

Downside, I didn't buy the mapping software. The basemaps seem to be a bit outdated. But I don't use it for road navigation.

Overall, I'm happy with it and wouldn't hesitate to but another.

  7. Is it too late to order some of these cool hockey jersey coins? I just saw the post. Minimun order? Prices? Numbers available?

Ahh, I just went back and read the original post, minimum order of 20 coins, too rich for my blood.

  8. Hey all!

I wonder of anyone can come up with with something suitable for me.

I am from West "By God" Virginia and spend most of my free time Fly-fishing for trout in our beautiful streams and rivers. My latest cache placement, GC14QJD, was inspired by the place that I caught and released my largest trout to date, a 26" Rainbow Trout. My other passions are Pittsburgh Penguins Hockey and of course Geocaching.

Thanks in advance for any help,
