  1. Thank you all so much for your help. I've found 3 good ones in our area, and we'll be out tomorrow night for a hike! S One of the famous night caches here has the reflectors up high on the trees. You can only see them if you hold your flashlight above your head, so the light hits the reflector more directly. There were several of us on that adventure, and the best flashlights turned out to be the non-LED types. If I had been trying to do that cache by myself, I would have been wandering the woods until dawn. I covet a friend's very bright, compact flashlight . . . but it costs about $60.00 . . . Definitely take more than one flashlight/headlamp, and extra batteries. LIke I said above, the 1W - 5W LED lights with a SINGLE LED work great. The multiple LED lights don't do much for me at all. I bought a non-LED light for my son but he's a CHP officer and needed a good tactical light. Boy, those things can get very expensive!
  2. OK, my husband and I are going on a date, and we want to do a couple night caches in our area, without the kids, but I can't figure out how to search for JUST the night cache's. Also, what is a "Letterbox hybrid" Oh, and when it's a night cache, is that because there are reflectors helping point the way???? THANKS!
  3. Thank you so much, I"m so new to this, can you tell me where in GSAK I put these codes??Thanks! Stacey
  4. Is there a way to transfer the hints of notes to GSAK and then to our Garmin Map60CS???? Thanks! Stacey
  5. My husband has a Garmin GPS 60CS and he also has Mapsource. Now we've purchased a second Garmin Etrex Legend (blue one) for our son. When I go to Mapsource to try to send some maps it says they aren't unlocked for that GPS. Do you have to purchase an unlock code for a 2nd gps??? THANKS! Stacey

For us, (we are also very new) we figured out that the GPS was always pointing us to use the roads to get to the cache, and we had to change the setting on our GPS to read "offroad". We were SOOOO frustrated!!! Once we made the switch and started thinking about where someone would hide a cache we had much more success. I think the actual closest our GPS has said at the cache is 8ft. Stacey
  7. We just started and we use a backpack for our 2 1/2 year old peanut (only 23 lbs) and our son who is 6 walks, and complains, but walks...that's the whole idea of us starting this hobby to get him out walking... Stacey Little fart refuses to walk... I guess she knows a good thing when she sees it, hehehe! She's lightning fast crawling, lemme tell ya, but just won't walk yet. Beings that she's my second kidlet I know better than to be in a hurry for her to walk, too Mamid, what type sling do you use? Mine is a hotsling. This is my little chunky monkey, showing us how you eat french fries...
  8. If you go to the "GPS Unit" forum, there's a lot of information on the ETRex. I just purchased yesterday from Ebay an ETrex Legend for $80 for my son and myself as my husband is getting very possessive of his.... Stacey
  9. We are really new too. The first and second time out, nothing. THEN we were fooling around with our GPS (it's a Garmin 60CS) and found a setting for "offroad" and once we set that, we were able to get right to the cache's. It kept trying to get us to go on roads to get to the areas....hope this helps.
  10. My husband and I are fairly new to Geocaching, and he has a Garmin GPSMap 60cs. Today I purchased on Ebay a Etrex Legend (for our son and myself to hold on treks since my husband won't let go of his). My question is: I was just reading that the Legend has a serial port connector. Will I be able to use the pc cable (USB) that my husband has for his 60cs to transfer data to the Legend???? Thank you for your help!! Stacey
