  1. Downloaded and installed the FL topo. Selected a few quads from the TX topo (SE) and a few from the FL topo (NC) and sent them to my OR300 as one gmapsupp.img file. I am seeing two map sets: FL topo with 'Florida .... etc.' and TX topo also with 'Florida .... etc.' On the GPSr, each are is displayed properly. You may have to zoom in to the 500' level to see the detailed contours; and even in an area using a contour interval of 5 ft there may not be a contour line in the GPSr's display window - pan around some. I now remember there was a post a few days ago, either here or on the gpsfiledepot forums, that mentioned something similiar in MapSource or BaseCamp. Garmin has their software assigning the names of the first 3 or 4 quad/tiles in the selected list to both/all mapsets wether or not that quad/tile actually is part of that mapset. To correct fot this glitch: Select from one mapset and send to your GPSr; then rename that gmapsupp.img file to .......img (ie. TXtopo.img). Clear/delete the selected tiles in MapSource (or close and restart MapSource), select/open the second mapset, select quads/tiles and send to your GPSr, then rename this gmapsupp.img file (ie. FLtopo.img). Each mapset will then correctly list the first 3 or 4 quads/tile within that mapset. BTW - having different mapsets as different files will make it easier to add, update and/or delete individual mapsets. You can also copy them to or from the GPSr/computer amapset at a time - lets you store the lesser used ones on the computer and copy them to the GPSr when needed rather than rebuilding in MapSource.
  2. The terminology comes from paper maps and means 1 unit on the map represents 25,000 units on the earth's surface. It is actually 1/25,000, etc.; so a 25k is generally more detailed than a 50k as lines, etc. can only be printed so close together before the ink mergers - think of what is shown on a 1:50k topo versers what can be shown on a 1:5million, etc. scale map of an entire country.
  3. Now you say you also want FL; I was under the impression FL was something unwanted that was showing up when you were wanting to use the TX mapset. Mapsets can be removed by running the 'uninstall.exe' program which came with each mapset (each uninstall is specific to the mapset it came with). The file is in the folder with the mapset data; c:\Program files\xxxxx topo unless you specified a different folder when you installed a mapset. ------ I now surmise you may have sent part or all of the TX topo to the GPSr; then sent part or all of the TX topo. When MapSource sends a new gmapsupp.img file to the GPSr, that file will overwrite/replace an existing gmapsupp.img file on the GPSr. It does not add nor update data in an existing gmapsupp.img file. Therefore the second mapset (FL?) you sent replaced the first (TX?). On your GPSr simply rename the gmapsupp.img file to somename.img (ie. TXtopo.img); then send another mapset and rename it (ie. FLtopo.img). The procedure in older units is to select from one mapsets; then select from the second mapset, etc. and finally send all the selected quads/tiles to the GPSr as one gmapsupp.img file. There might also be a conflict if you sent one mapset to the internal memory and the other to the SD card. The GPSr may be confused by seeing two files named gmapsupp.img file. Also see the turorial: http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-...armin-gps-unit/
  4. As I posted earlier, when I downloaded and checked the Texas Topo, there is nothing in it that refers to Florida. I did not do a FL topo and those 'names' are in a different 'style' than what I use. If you used MapSource to send the TX data to the GPSr or SD card; the data will be in 'Garmin' folder and in a file named gmapsupp.img (unless you renamed it). The gmapprom.img 2,767,168 kb is the preinstalled Garmin Topo 100k, the gmaptz.img 591 kb is another preinstalled base map. Do NOT delete either; if you have not already done so; make a copy of those to you computer incase they ever need to be 'reloaded' to the GPSr. Is there any reference to the FL files/data in MapSource? Delete the gmapsupp.img file. If the FL files are still there, it might be that someone had the unit before you and left them on it.
  5. I have just spent the last 1 1/2 hours downloading, installing and testing that mapset and everything is working as it should. 'mti_tx' is short for "mark's topo intermediate _ texas". There is no reference to florida anywhere during the installation, nor the c:\program files\Texas topo, nor in MpaSource, nor on my OR300. Where are you seeing the 'florida ...'? Are you in a PC environment or MAC? As others have posted, you would need to disable Garmin's 100k topo to see the Texas topo.
  6. How Garmin codes DEM data is their secret; it has not been reversed engineered so you will only find it in Garmin and Garmin sanctioned products.
  7. The OP was asking about purchasing CN on Garmin's pre-programmed datacard. From Garmin's website for CN: Pre-programmed datacards: ... Simply unpack the card and insert it into your compatible GPS device. These maps do not need to be unlocked to your device which allows you to move the card to multiple units if desired, however you will not have access to the mapping on your computer. Teamfelixg, as Thrak asked, did you purchase CN on a datacard, or use your own?
  8. RMB is correct. The upside of CN on SD card is you can use it on different GPSr (those which take an SD card). The downside is that you can not add any other mapset data to the card (some say there are exceptions, but not for the 60csx).. You are correct; for your 60csx all data from one or more mapsets must be sent by MapSource in a single (gmapsupp.img) file. That file must be recreated for any additions/deletions/updates you make.
  9. On the OR300 it is under Setup/Map/Orientation: choice of North up / Track Up / or Automotive Mode. On the 76csx it is under Menu / Setup Map / Map Setup General / Orientation: choice of North up or Track Up
  10. Eary on Garmin had a 'tutorial' on how to get Google imagery in kmz format. Garmin has mentioned increasing the size limit of non-Birdseye imagery; however I have not heard that they have done so, thus the max file size would be limited to 100 cells of 1024 by 1024 pixels. Depending on the resolution you would like, about 10,000 by 10,000 pixels will not cover that large of an area, i.e. 1 meter resolution would be limited to about 10km by 10km - or 6 by 6 miles; or 3 by 12, etc.
  11. Sounds like the draw priorities are the same or reversed. Interesting that neither Garmin nor NavTeq seams to know who created the mapset. If you can, return it.
  12. ? ?? ??? ???? Most of the mapsets are self-installing xxxxx.exe files. You simply download the file then run/execute it. Then use MapSource or Basecamp to select the area you want to send to the GPSr or SD card in a card reader. Except for downloading you must have done the same for CN8; unless you have it on a Garmin pre-recorded SD card, which I do not think they were offering 4 years ago. Garmin's POIs are 'human' heavy (ie resturants, etc). and light on physical/geographic features. POIs from other sources depend on what the author wants to emphasize and the source material available for use. Also check the POIfactory. POIs can come as a standard mapset or as .gpx file(s). Advisable not to add anything to a Garmin pre-recorded SD card - doing so could make the Garmin data unusable. What ever you feel will work best for you.
  13. The OpenStreetMap project has free routable maps. The gpsfiledepot has overlay/transparent contour line mapsets which will work with CN, OSM, etc. However, it is not advisable to put any other mapset on a pre-recorded Garmin SD card. If by 'turn-by-turn instructions' you mean voice instructions, that is dependent on the GPSr model; your 60CSX will not do that.
  14. I have seen this when deleating data without using the uninstal program which can with the mapset or deleting files without using MapSetToolKit. Doing so leaves links in the registry. How you might recover from this depends on what you have done. Likely best to have Garmin's tech support walk you through the procedure - it is not hard to do, but if done incorrectly could 'trash' your computer.
  15. Each GPSr manufacturer has their own proprietary format for their maps/units. You need to use the mapset(s) designed for the brand of GPSr you are using. The only exception I recall is NG topo was able to send to Magellan's Triton model. As gnjeepn posted, try those on gpsfiledepot; they will not set you back anything but your time to download and install them.
  16. Until Garmin increases the 100 tile limit of 1024 by 1024 pixels per tile you probably will not like what can be done. What is the resolution of the data you are looking at? At a one meter pixel resolution, 10.2km by 10.2km is not a very large area. If you subsample to include more area, the Birdseye imagery would likely be better as Garmin does 'not' have a tile limit to those files.
  17. Was this not clear enough? Does step 8 in the tutorial reference I provided need to be clearer?.
  18. Most of the mapsets on gpsfiledepot are self installing to MapSource and BaseCamp. You need to run the .exe file you downloaded. Then using MapSource or BaseCamp, select some or all of the quads/tiles and send them to the OR450. The software will create and send a gmapsupp.img file. If you rename this to something more meaningful with a .img extension you can send additional data using the same procedure. You may have to create a Garmin folder the first time the micromemory card is used. Also see: http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-...armin-gps-unit/ Procedure may be slightly different if you have a MAC>
  19. The Ibycus US mapset is straight Census TIGER, no contours, no USGS GNIS points, etc. It is 2007 data, when over 1/3 of the counties still needed to be spatially updated/corrected. You can add the various State contour line overlay mapsets to it, CN, OSM, or the regional planimetric mapsets to make a 'topo' map. Most of the mapsets on gpsfiledepot use a larger file size than Garmin used in the past.
  20. On the 60csx all vector map data must be in a single gmapsupp.img file - I have not heard of any limit on the number of mapsets, only the total 2025 segment limit. Individual segments/quads can be shown or hide; and pressing the menu button when on that page will list the mapsets and allow you to show or hide entire mapsets. CN will have to be hidden to view a topo mapset; otherwise its display will override any other non-overlay/non-transparent mapset(s).
  21. As ecanderson posted, it depends on the GPSr. MapSource/Basecamp and other software will create a gmapsupp.img file. Most new units, like the CO, OR, DK, (78,62 ??), will recognize any standard 8 character file name with an .img extension. Makes it much easier to add new mapsets to the GPSr.
  22. It is generally not advisable to try to add anything to a Garmin pre-recorded data card. Purchasing Garmin mapsets on DVD/CD is the most flexible option - unless you intend to use a locked mapset on more than one device and will move the SD card between them. There were posts earlier this year indicating the 60csx was being shipped with a 1GB card. This is enough space for a few average sized States. Usually 'base' mapsets can only be displayed one at a time. Both could be on the 60csx in a single gmapsupp.img file, however, only one could be display at a time. The overlay/transparent State contour line mapsets available on gpsfiledepot will display with CN resulting in a near 24k topo map being displayed. Other options are available depending on what you are looking for.
  23. Just downloaded the BWCA mapset and uploaded to OR300. MN is not loaded, so was only using built-in basemap for that area. Portage lines display to max zoom of 500mi. In zooming-in: EP first display at 5mi Camps & 'trail reads' first at 0.2 miles; I do not recall seeing this before - these point features will display while zooming-out through 5 miles. As mentioned in previous post, check the zoom level for the map points, mine are on auto (and waypoints turned off). Also try it with other mapsets disabled - there may be some conflict with another mapset(s).
  24. If it is like the OR300, check setup / map / advanced map setup / zoom levels - make user map points & user waypoints are set to auto or some value like 800' or 0.x miles or more. Will not help if the mapauthor has them set to 500', but see if it makes a difference. Have you contacted the source of the mapset? They could at least tell you at what zoom leve the data is supposed to first display at and if any other users have reported issues. Is the BWCA mapset an overlay/transparent one? Try turning off the other mapsets.
  25. Like most things in life you will have to decide between how important and how many $$. As posted above see gpsfiledepot; every State as a state topo or part of a regional topo is there at least once. How 24k is defined is open to question. You will need at least an 8Gb memory card.
