  1. Wow, Denice!! Your legs are REALLY long!
  2. I've observed this on occasion. Usually it is not an issue since your search radius is larger than a thousandth of a minute. But occasionally, it is a problem. As you have experienced. There could be several things going on and I haven't narrowed the culprit down, but I suspect that the problem is a accumulation of error in handling coordinate conversions. Here, for example, is how coordinates look when you downloaded them from geocaching.com (in a GPX file): <wpt lat="34.053417" lon="-112.144667"> (This is cache I found in Arizona on my road trip a couple weeks ago...) Note that it's not in the decimal minutes form that we are all used to when we read the cache page. It's in decimal degrees. Somewhere under the hood, the coords displayed on the website are converted when they go into the GPX file. And they get converted again (back into decimal minutes) when the GPX file is downloaded into the Oregon. But a problem can occur because sometimes the conversion from one form to another isn't perfect. If this happens, the last digit will be rounded up or down. And then, when the next conversion happens, again, it also isn't perfect. But instead of the number being rounded the opposite way as before (which would restore the correct value), it gets rounded the same way and instead of getting 644, you get 645 in your GPSr. As for the cache owner, anyone who refuses the honor the find based on a difference of a thousandth of a minute is...well, probably better if I didn't say what I think of him or her. Perhaps you can ask Marko to have some of his Lithuanian buddies to lean on him/her... Thanks, James! That makes sense.....I knew I could depend on my super smart caching friends for an explanation.
  3. If you upload a cache either singly or in a PQ, is there any reason for the coords shown on the GPS to be different than the coords on the website cache page? I have an Oregon where the cache pages are loaded to the unit. I did a puzzle cache where you were supposed to enter the published coords and the cache would open. When I entered the coords off the cache page on the GPSr, the cache wouldn't open so I assumed the cache was not functioning properly. I wrote the cache owner and he asked what coords I entered. I looked up the coords on the Oregon and then looked at the cache page on the website out of curiousity to see if they were the same and saw that it was one digit off - 645 on the GPSr and 644 on the website. How does this happen? The cache owner denied my request to log it as a found because the numbers were different. Supposedly, he had not updated the coords since I uploaded. I'm baffled! Help!! Sorry if I asked this on the wrong thread.
  4. This is too funny....at least none of our butts look big! I LOVE IT!! That would be perfect to hang up in the 'Geochicks Hall of Fame'............er, uhhh, well, if we had one! Great job pal, this is a classic!!! Splashette Not to worry Janie ... there's a GeoChicks Hall of Fame in my heart. Who would have thought that times would change so ... once upon a time gals had to be tricked out into the woods with that silly old snipe- hunting ploy; now y'all are out on the trails in great numbers to track down every last hide. Kiss, kiss, Harmon Nice job, Harmon! I'm kind of glad you gave up on FaceBook - there's too much fodder there for you to Photoshop! So are you suggesting that I should rethink my strategy? One thing for sure, searching for decent Facebook images didn't pay off that well, just found the three images I've used. Nearly fell out of my chair when that Heroines image came up in a search-result... couldn't resist doing something with it. Here's a little tidbit for you ... there's one GeoChick that is completely opposed to having her picture taken. Knowing that and thinking ahead to the Heroines layout I put my arm around that photo-shy lady and hauled her up beside me during one of the HoF group shots at the M*A*S*H event. As it turned out she was facing exactly as needed for one of the Heroines in that layout and she flashed a smile to die for. Can you name the Geocacher in question? Come to think of it, who can name everybody in that layout? Funny, Harmon!!! Great photo! I get a kink in my neck looking at this photo. I honestly can't name everyone - only two I'm not sure of. I bet Janie or Jodi can name everyone. Nancy, Glad that you are pleased. That kink in your neck came from a brand-new Photoshop CS5 tool called Puppet Warp. The original layout had your Heroine character with a kinked neck so it was a good place to see how Puppet-Warp would handle your neck. You're having too much fun with that program!! I'd like to try it someday.

  6. YIPPEE..............LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are now on our Jeepin' list. can't wait for the first run! Congratulations Nancy............. The Splashes Thank you!! I’m soooo excited and still in shock!! My husband completely surprised me – he and Collin came home from “running errands” with a Jeep and said “happy birthday!” Oh my gosh…I can’t believe it!! Then I thought, uh oh…how does he know what I’d like??? I’ve mentioned a few things, but then I found out he’s been talking to some key people: the Splashes, one of his non-caching Jeeping friends, and Tom. Oh…THAT’s why it’s so much like the Blue October!! No complaints here!! I LOVE it!! Yay!!! I still can’t believe it!! Looking forward to that first time out, Janie!! I hope it’s more of a “green circle” than a “black diamond” trail to start with. Did I say that I still can't believe it???
  7. Would you settle for sax and violins and oud cacaphony? Now I REALLY can't wait!!
  8. Soooo...Barrie... What's your story...??? neat playing cards idea Come on you two, I set you both up with a lead into a good story and so far nothing out of you. Spill it! Oh my! I guess I haven't been paying attention to the forums enough ! Okay, okay ... I'll give you a story: Have a Heart ... or THREE! by boysnbarrie Chapter One It all began on a cool, moonlit night as boysnbarrie arrived at the home of the kwvers! She noticed Mister kwvers! sitting at the computer looking at swan pictures. Mrs. kwvers! offered boysnbarrie a Stevia Root Beer with no sugar added, and she gladly accepted. "Are you bidding on a poker card," mister kwvers! asked? Amused, boysnbarrie responded, "Oh, I didn't really understand all of that ... so I haven't given it any more thought. Besides, I'm broke!" "The bidding ends in just a few hours, so this is your last chance to get in on it," he told her. Mister kwvers! began explaining the whole bidding process for the GeoWoodstock 8 Poker Cards, and boysnbarrie began to consider the possibilities of placing a bid. "I think I'd like to bid on the Three of Hearts, which will represent my two boys and me! Okay, I'll give it a try! What card are YOU bidding on?" "The Two of Hearts," he said with a smile. boysnbarrie placed a conservative bid on the Three of Hearts, then lounged on the kwvers! VERY comfy sofa, and soon began to nod off (as she often does around 8 o'clock). How's that for a beginning, Harmon ol' buddy? Is that okay so far? Barrie aka: boysnbarrie, Three of Hearts Barrie, I've been counting on you and now you are doing a great job. I've already learned a lot; for example, that Kwvers is kinky about swans, that Jim and Denise serve Stevia root beer to guests, and that you drop by their place on occasion for a soda and a nap. Exactly what one wants from a first-chapter, immediate absorption into the story. Right there, the swans deal, that explains a lot about the fact that those two pals of yours are front-runners in our local Geo- caching community. Nice work on the opening by the way, so pleased that you resisted "It was a dark and stormy night ...," sort of. Your title is tops, "Three of Hearts" Puts me in mind of the old Charley Chan detective films of the 1940s. Now that you've placed the scene so well in Chapter 1 I'm anxious to see how you handle character-development in Chapter 2. I'm guessing that chapter 2 will introduce some minor characters and will expand the central theme of the narrative. I'm all eyes Barrie, can't wait to read the next installment. Your pal, Harmon SD Rowdies Pressure......I can't wait either, Barrie!
