  1. Dawdling off topic a bit, but being a youngster and computer literacy are not necessarily mutually exclusive concepts!
  2. spellign would sa Mine was also deliberate as it was not meant to criticise, but just fooling around, adding a bit of humour
  3. Nice sentiments. But in the end analysis we should not be too hard to judge. It is only a game after all and someone "falsely" logging a cache does nor one any harm. If there is anyone on this group that has never copied a music album or movie or even watched someone else copy let them raise their hand. See where I am going here? I woudl never log a cache that I never found or that was missing when I got to GZ, Actually I have once - I was in the presence of the CO and he saw I had the right place and he confirmed the cache to be missing and that he woudl replace it the next day or two. He said go ahead and log it so I did. An unusual circumstance to be sure and I feel justified as did the CO that that was all good. Maybe the purist will have a problem with that but I do not. Mainly don't let it bother you as that solves nothing. Delete errant logs if you are sure they are false if you feel like it. I have also logged a few puzzle caches with out solving the puzzle first. I am happy enough to do it as I still physically get to the GZ and sign the log. Some people woudl be a little uncomfortable with this perhaps. So they woudl alwasy solve the puzzle first. Some of the puzzles are so hard that it is no fun any more (to try and solve the puzzle!) Magnum PI anyone? trev I have two observations: 1. Why Trevor in his post keeps spellign would sa "woudl". The interesting part is that he does it more than once. Is it a keyboard wiring error. Can it be a brain synapsis aberration. Can it just be late at night? 2. I get majorly understressed by the details. The only "rule" that I know of of "you sign the log you get the smiley". How you get there is entirely your own business. As Trevor stated in his example - if you can justify that you were part of the experience then that is also OK. Fortunately I haven't been confronted with the situation, but I would not easily delete someone's log. To each his/her own. Any clues on Magnum? PS: Edited to add. The previous post refers. I object to names being mentioned in a negative light on these forums. It is not necessary. If you have an observation to make about a principle, do that without mentioning names.
  4. Witblits is made by distilling fermented farm vegetable produce, be it peaches, apricots or similar. Mampoer has as an added ingredient some animal produce, such as mopanie worms. I am not sure what it is called if the farm vegetable produce has gone through the animal, maybe Witpoer?
  5. That reminds me - a month or two ago my (the computer's) mouse went wonky, so I went to the shop to buy a mouse. at the shop i thought I would buy myself a wide screen for my bday. but then the XP could not cope with thge wide screen, so I bought a new computer. but then the scanner could not cope with the new computer, so I bought a laser printer/scanner/copier. I love my new computer with the wide screen and the smart printer, but just a word of warning: you might end up with and emptier pocket, but lots more fun. It might be something to do with the cumulative effect...
  6. They are facing the wrong direction, so you only get to see the colour of the lights after you have passed through the intersection. This makes negiotiating the traffic lights in Worcester rather complicated and risky.
  7. GPSr required. I have a highly skeptical muggle friend who, almost indicernably, is showing signs of interest in the game. This is a slow and gentle process and should be handled with the greatest of diplomacy and care. This friend has one factor which is hampering his/her progress: the possession of a GPSr. Now if there is anybody out there who has a GPSr lying lost the the bottom of a drawer and looking for a good home I (and the muggle friend) would be much obliged. It must have the following attributes: 1. it must work 2. it must not be complicated to operate (the muggle friend is challenged) 3. it must not cost the earth (the muggle friend is challenged) Buy a donkey...
  8. I'm guessing 47million/150000 prisoners = 500/100 000
  9. Amalgamated banks of south africa : Allied, Saambou, Volkskas, United Genade, I feel old... (if it is correct that is)
  10. OK - shooting myself in the foot here as I am a proclaimed anti-statisterix (?) but I do note that WC caches take up the top four most favourited caches in SA. Tops is Table Mountain TB hotel with 152 finds/41 favourites, but having some insight to the inner workings of the cache-owner's brain, I suspect he had a plan. Second (39favs/133finds) is Hesamati's Stellenbosch TB hotel, which I find quiite impressive - I really did not expect this performance from a out-of-town cache. It must be said that both these caches are works of art, so all kudos to them. Third and forth are Sentinel View and Table Top Trove - both old-timers in the geocaching landscape and well worthy of a spot in the hall of fame. Maybe I should not have mentioned this as I might have worsened the immigration situation...
  11. People are familiar with A-4 size paper. What is the area of A-0 paper?
  12. I happened to see this article in the Constantiaberg. The Peninsula looks like a fun place to geocache. Could anyone give me some names of memorable caches that would be worth tackling? Thanks All depends what is your fancy. With such spectacular surroundings, the mountain caches are the most spectacular, especially the ones with exposure and scrambling involved as that gets the adrenalin really going. There are also many less hectic hiking caches, caving specimens, puzzle caches, and some city models. Let us know your preferences and we can steer you in a direction. Looking at the favourite points and logs will also give you a good idea.
  13. Ding I thought this was rather obscure, but never underestimate what others know! From wikipedia: The male seahorse is equipped with a brood pouch on the ventral, or front-facing, side. When mating, the female seahorse deposits up to 1,500 eggs in the male's pouch. The male carries the eggs for anywhere from 9 to 45 days until they emerge, expelling fully developed, miniature seahorses in the water. Once the seahorse babies are released into the water, the male's role is done and he offers no further care. All yours 7gryph7
  14. In which animal species does the male get pregnant?
  15. OK - I'll throw Max du Preez into the mix...
  16. We're getting famous. Geocaching article that appeared in a local community newspaper The Constantiaberg Bulletin (link).
  17. Difficult one. On the whole the Table Mountain Sandstone is pretty sure footed. So recent rain is not a problem. But hiking in the clouds is a bit hard-core giving how stunning the views are from up there. As long as it is clear on the day...
  18. Inventor/originator of the Gibson Stratocaster electric guitar?
  19. My feeling is to stick to True North. GPSr's do not rely on magnetic north information at all. Furthermore all maps are based on TN, with MN offered as a declination. All users of magnetic compassess will be well aware of declination and the variance thereof and would be applying that in their calculations and observations. So the starting point is always TN, with an additional calculation for MN. Having said that, when I checked on my GPS I noticed it was set to MN, so I might be talking through my ear - but then again that is because I have not needed that facility to date. I still think TN would be my comfort zone.
  20. Japan/nippon airlines? (not sure what they are called)
  21. Anyone know which are the twelve Apostles? More likely it was just an impression, and not meant to be taken literally as twelve. I can't find anything on the net. I'm guessing Blinkwater,Porcupine, Jubilee, Barrier, Valken, Kasteels, Postern, Wood, Spring, Slangolie, Corridoe, Grootkop, Judas peak. Don't know if Cairn, Fountain and Grotto that is before Porcupine also count as apostles
