  1. The screen size is fine, hoping they have more pixels on this one.
  2. Just how good are the built in topo maps? I bought a new unit last summer (sorry, I'm at work, I don't remember model number) because I wanted to get back into GCing after being away for several years but the maps were AWFUL, even after I purchased and uploaded "hi-rez" maps. I was so disappointed that I never actually used the unit. Do the maps look as good as as the pictures on the ads? Does anyone have and screen shots of actual units? The old black and white maps uploaded to my old eTrex Vista weren't half bad. Trouble is the toggle switch on my eTrex was damaged so I cannot use that unit any more. How about it. Can anyone set my mind at ease? I am really tempted to get a 450t however I do not want to make a mistake again. Thanks! BL The built in topo maps are about 1:100K so you'll get 100' contour lines. Better than nothing but not great for hiking. You can add your own maps to any of these units. I have the free California topo from GPSfiledepot.com which is 1:24K and has 20' contours. Much more detail, but also requires more memory, so it's not practical to have that level of detail for the whole country. For me, the 450 is probably worth the upgrade for the 3-axis compass, better screen and 5000 cache capacity, but the 450t only adds mediocre topo detail, so I'll pass on that.
  3. I don't know how you could possibly think that. My brand is way better at half the cost blah blah blah...
  4. What's wrong with you guys? You don't have a secretary in your caching mobile? Love going out with friends to share our finds! Rule of thumb, lucky one who grabs the cache gets to put everyone's name down. I have no problem with that. Anyone who does must be jealous of my friendships and I'm not going to change that just for them. You can keep stirring the dirt here but I'm done with it. I think the issue is that the group is not together, they are caching individually and signing in for each other instead of actually visiting each cache. So a 'group' of 5 cachers might have each member find 20 but they all log 100 caches as found.
  5. Hee Hee, I thought this was a lip-sync karaoke thread. :-)
  6. Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! Find number 5K for lulu499 and a clean sweep of MTRP 5K for the Dillon Gang too 2K for TK7464 1.6K for Boysnbarrie 1 K for Snflwrmh 400 for Ol' Mossback Congrats on all the great milestones!
  7. Sorry to hear about that Bobby. This was a tough year for the companion dogs.
  8. The Oregon allows you to set up different profiles with different preferences selected. I use the automotive profile for driving directions to a cache, then switch to geocaching profile for the walk from parking. You can also have a bicycle profile which avoids freeways. Easy.
  9. Wow, I'm way behind....again! Happy Birthday to Team Fatman! Congrats to Jahoadi & John for 500 hides! Congrats to FisnJack for 6000 finds! Congrats to Unknown 2 You for 4000 finds!
  10. I just completed GC1W7RA west, east?, west and GC1WD48 I HAVE A FRIEND IN SAN DIEGO, which are 2-state multi's. The initial location here is in the saddle between Cowles Mtn and Pyles Peak. My partner in North Carolina is looking for 2 more San Diego cachers to pair up with his 2 friends out there to complete these caches. email jratzlaf (JR) at jratzlaf@pisgah.us if interested.
  11. You're going to need to go through most of the menu options on the unit to set it up for geocaching. Many of the default settings are not for caching. One biggie for me was turning on the auto-routing recalculate function in case you miss a turn...by default it does not re-calculate. You're going to really like the PN-40, but it does take some tinkering to make it work the way you want it to. I highly recommend the map subscription, $29 gets you all the maps you can download, really a great value.
  12. Of course you wouldn't Barrie dear, you be law-abidin'. A man would have rocks in his head t' think you would do that. So how many GeoPassengers does your little yellow school bus hold by th' way? ... and has it been lifted and tricked out for serious off-road ramblin'? Lockers? GPS Navigation system? Ol' geezer, Harmon SD Rowdies & Sandy Creek Cowboys Note to Self: Self, remember ... Barrie = PUD cake. Well, when determining passengers ... it all kinda depends on yer uh ... girth. If I'm transporting high school football players in my yellow limo, then I can take 9 to 18. However, if I'm transportin' lil' ballerinas I can take 24+! So ... I don't know about you, Harmon, but have you seen many geocachers that fit the ballerina size girth visual? I can only think of a handful, personally. Uh oh ... HARMON! Are you trying to git me in TROUBLE AGAIN??? Aw geez! boysnbarrie Barrie & Harmon at the Ocotillo Campout (notice the improvements to the porta-potty in the backround) Barrie uses this one for 'The Squeeze'
  13. Hey..who is that muggle? You can almost see 2 cache spots in this picture.... Honk if you know who that famous Muggle is. By the way, the advise given by Triple Crown about not using the deer trail leading away from "Start Climbing ..." really makes sense. The dry, matted grass covering hillside deer trails is really slippery this season; you should have seen me dance! I took an unintended rest- break as I made my way into the Valley of the Fallen Appliances. Life is good. Honk! I saw that muggle on the moon when I went to get cheese with my pals Wallace and Gromit. It was 'A Grand Day Out'
  14. Thanks Bernard, yes i have seen this, but is it possible to add a rule to ALL caches rather than just individual ones? As doing this individually would be extremely time consuming as it is often the case that i will have over 300 - 400 caches loaded! I think you can set alerts with the Garmin POI loader in the advanced options.
  15. Absolutely AMAZING!!!!! Congratulations Jim & Denice!!! 14,000 kwows!!!
  16. Oh, the swagmanity! All the cachers screaming around here. I told you, I can't even talk to people whose travel bugs were in there. Ah! It's–it's–it's–it's ... o–ohhh! I–I can't talk, ladies and gentlemen. Honest, it's just laying there, a mass of smoking wreckage. I, listen, folks, I–I'm gonna have to stop for a minute because I've lost my voice. This is the worst thing I've ever witnessed..
  17. Well it's a few extra steps, but if it works reliably then that's what I'm doing from now on!
  18. Why to go Linda on 5,000 and 500 Congratulations to The Lost Clan!! 5000 finds is awesome, but 500 puzzles...that's really impressive!! WooooooHooooooooooo!!!! Congrats on getting your 5000th find on your 500th puzzle!!! Awesome!!! (and I'm glad you chose such a disgustingly fun cache to get there!)
  19. Congrats to Jahoadi & John on passing 13,000 finds!!!
  20. When I load GPX files onto my Oregon 300, I can see the file but often on the first re-boot after loading, the machine locks up and I have to pull the batteries. The unit then boots normally (actually a little faster than normal) but when I select geocaches it says 'No geocaches found.' The GPX file is still there, but the unit doesn't see it so I've been having to re-load it for the unit to display the caches. Also, sometimes I get a partial load where the close caches are there, but the distant ones are not, so I have to verify that the furthest cache in my GPX has loaded each time. Currently using 3.2 software but this problem has been intermittent through all upgrades. Any ideas?
  21. Whooo Hoo!!! a TON of caches!!! Congrats to G&H!!!
