  1. Sounds interesting..... I'd like to see that too.
  2. I don't agree..... I think the FP system is a lot better than a 5* type one..... for an example look no further than ALs..... some of them, I'm sorry - suck. And what scores do they have? - 4+/5..... Making FPs a reasonably precious resource means they are given out only when worthy.... I admit that this can fall over a bit in major tourist areas and mint tins can end up with 100+ FPs, but this limitation is well known.....
  3. We always try to do this, unless the hide is a spur of the moment one....
  4. Yes, we've seen an uptick of late, maybe the past couple of years. We've even had some new hiders. Logs are a mix of reasonable write-ups and tftc....
  5. Every time something like this has happened with my Garmin, it has been a filter setting..... check the 'Quick Filter' settings - that was my issue just a few weeks back.....
  6. I've often thought about this one since my son showed me it years ago.... if you tried to have a challenge published that literally only a (theoretical) handful of people worldwide had any chance of finding, it would be knocked back.... yet you can place a trad on the deep sea floor....
  7. This one? https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GCG822_rainbow-hydrothermal-vents
  8. So this clearly isn't someone who 'might have been throwing away rubbish' or accidentally did anything, she is straight up a thief.... a cache maggot. Report her, with the footage, to HQ. If I was confident the footage was clear enough, I probably might not even confront her about it. Why bargain with a thief?
  9. There might be less thieves in the world if we did a bit more of it....
  10. We've been asking for this for years.... should be implemented any day now!
  11. We know our area well, and have everything corrected. If we know a cache might be close, then we need to use Cachly or the GPS to verify saturation, the main map would be easier. I don't like to bother the reviewer unnecessarily, they have enough to do. There are other issues with the site and hiding - you don't get to check your coordinates on the main map until after the cache is published, only the low-res, no satellite imagery junk the cache prep pages offer.
  12. I think it is obvious that the horse has bolted a long time ago on this one!
  13. If this is the active topic for this request, I'll upvote it here as well. As it stands, for hiders, the website is almost useless in choosing a spot in a area with a lot of caches, and you really need to use 3rd party apps, or a basic GPRs to get the needed functionality.
  14. If it was me then, I'd out her on our area's social media platforms..... let her explain herself.....
  15. +1.... can you identify them or have you just got footage of a person stealing it?
  16. Use br tags..... see image. You can toggle to html with the 'source' button in the editor.....
  17. Related to this is the CO who stuffs so much log paper into a (usually inappropriate) small container, with a massive ziplock bag you need to fold over 5 times to get back in. It's as if they think if they squeeze in half an exercise book they'll never need to maintain it, where all they are doing is ensuring it will be a tatty mess in a month, and as the container (commonly a non-waterproof mint-tin) is rubbish, it will rust away long before anyway....
  18. Generally you show up at the icon on the map, and read the description (you really need to read these ones!) - it will tell what you need to do in order to get coordinates for the final cache, or maybe to another stage where you may have to repeat the process. As the help centre says you are commonly finding numbers from signs etc to make up a coordinate to navigate to. Sometimes you are looking for a physical stage - ie a cache that holds the coordinates or a clue. They range from quick and easy to interesting, to long and tedious..... Look for lower difficulty ones that are being found, read others logs to see if there are any issues, stick to single stage ones to start (some don't tell you how many stages there are...).
  19. It sucks a bit how you can get truckloads of points doing ALs, but attending an event gets you zip.... I think an event should count ahead of an AL.....
  20. It was fun.... the first TTC's we've done for a few months, not really high (25-30'), out of (safe) ladder range for sure.....
  21. Capping the points from the <10FP caches would keep the challenge more interesting too....
  22. There was a similar one a few years ago with the same sort of scoring, but yes you can earn it from your couch. Perhaps earnt points from FPs should be capped at 500??
  23. True. I enjoy them, to be honest this would be the first time I've ever been asked to resubmit with a threat of log deletion. They are supposed to be a learning op, aimed at a junior high school level. The question we missed wasn't even geological, clearly needs research - find the name of some pioneer family who used to quarry rocks from the area.... it wouldn't be allowed now anyway.
  24. Exactly. I do the same. Some people just use it as a power-trip..... I think I'll just put it in my pay-no-mind basket. If he deletes it I'll ask him to explain to HQ.
  25. Stuff like this in response to EarthCache answers: Most of the questions? sounds like a pass to me!
