  1. We've only found the odd 10/20c piece....but have spent a bomb on fuel, hiking gear, tents, etc etc And loved it.
  2. I can't work it out! I still can't work out why the system allows multiple 'Found It' logs, or why they don't seem to be able/willing to fix the glaring log-time-stamp problem..... Thanks for the help.....
  3. Actually, I think that may be it - this happened when I was entering logs for a trail of 16 finds, one I think I had to edit from Found to DNF, after an error in entering (got to used to selecting 'Found it').... Any thoughts now on fixing this? It is a little annoying.....
  4. No deleted finds, no lapses in membership.... weird....
  5. In the last couple of weeks, I've noted that my favourite points accrue every 10 finds, but on the 'eleventh' - ie 371, 381, 391 etc In the past it was always on every 10th, on 370, 380, 390 etc Is this a bug? I note my sons account is still accruing normally..... Cheers Lee
  6. +1 I wouldn't worry about the theoretical resolution of each of the formats, in practice none will ever be that accurate..... Also - converting to a higher resolution format won't improve the accuracy of the lower resolution value.
  7. 100% true - but the batteries are (relatively) cheap, and the convenience of in-unit charging, to me, outweighs the hassle of removing and externally charging them - the batteries in the 650 are a real nuisance to get out.....
  8. I 3D printed a little insert to sit under the Eneloops, to depress the button in the battery compartment, this allows the unit to charge the internal Eneloops, which it does very nicely (and quite slowly!)....
  9. When it is working perfectly (most of the time) it is a treasure..... Hopefully you won't be plagued with too many issues! Do yourself a favour and consider upgrading the battery pack - I changed out my supplied pack for a pair of Eneloop Pros - battery life has increased by 2-3x (conservative estimate).
  10. My 6 1/2 year old son has no trouble in using my (our!) Garmin Oregon 650 - I think you will find he'll be fine with any of them, just choose on cost/features......
  11. It will unless you seal it in very well, I've seen a few where the CO has used a bicycle cable lock through the handle to tether it to a tree, won't stop a determined thief - but nothing will.....
  12. I see your problem - too many handrails! Head out into some real caching areas, no handrails to cut your finger, just cliffs to fall off!
  13. As far as I know - you are purchasing the number as much as anything else, so you do need to buy the tags.... then you can use that number on whatever hand-crafted trackable you want. The benefit of a proper tag is, IMO that it stands out from the swag as a trackable (in theory anyway!)...
  14. What a refreshing step back in time, back in the days when you could use the word 'suicide' without having to list 25 different phone numbers for a counselling service....
  15. One just today: "Found it: Caching with xxxxxx ...... ..... I personally stayed behind to look after the car. ..... " This is from a cacher with 17,000 odd finds......
  16. I've seen some mysteries involving long strings of digits where the answer was given by simply multiplying or adding them together, the resulting answer being the lat-long....
  17. Maybe after 7000 finds they haven't worked out how to change the date on a log?? Or they just like souvenirs?
  18. I've seen one around here, where you need to bring your own 9V battery with you - would simplify maintenance. I'd be inclined to use larger cells - a group of C/D cells , to greatly increase battery life.....
  19. One of mine is the little calling cards some people drop into caches instead of signing the log, presumably to save time?? Just imagine if we all did that, how quickly the caches would fill up with rubbish....
  20. Very good.... I might use ideas like this with a little microcontroller I use here called a micromite.... I would probably attempt to encase as much as possible in resin or otherwise to water/moisture proof it....
  21. I looked at the Intro app 6 months ago, at that time you couldn't view photos with it - is this still the case? And - can I install the Intro app alongside the Classic app, and use either? Or will installing the intro app delete the classic app? Cheers Lee
  22. I can't believe the amount of crying I hear about what was spent on an app..... $11..... I think I have got more enjoyment out of that $11 than any other $11 I have spent. I am pretty sad to see this app disappear, as without doubt something will break it soon enough, and can't understand why resources weren't put into adding features to it, rather than raising a half cousin to take its place....
  23. 6 traditional caches which are large enough to hold swag and trackables.
  24. What irks me about these is you can just about guarantee that the CO geocached for a week, hid two caches and then promptly threw it in, so the geotrash caches are never maintained, usually damp and propped up on life support by 'helpful' cachers before having the plug pulled 5 years down the track.....
