  1. Exactly - most, if not all of this type of series here have two numbers per sub-cache for this reason....
  2. On the beach in pursuit of an Earthcache yesterday.....
  3. Garmin Oregon 650, it is good (when it is working well), but crashes too often for me to buy another.... my next GPS will be a Montana, or a Magellan....
  4. Something that irks me a lot - watchlist emails and notifications streaming in as lucky people around me are out caching on a nice Autumn day, while I'm at work.....
  5. Are the 'three different locations' individual caches you can log, or pre-existing signs (or physical containers that aren't actual caches) etc?? - if they are signs, I'd call it a multi. - if they are caches, I'd call it an unknown (puzzle?) - but I have seen them called multis before.... and - are the coords of the final GZ known to the finder from the start? - if so, I'd call it an unknown - if not, I'd call it a multi. Pretty confusing?? I've seen caches I thought should have been multis called unknowns, and vice versa, even seen unknowns/multis that should have been called trads.... just keep your directions very unambiguous....
  6. That one should be in the 'Found it, didn't find it' thread! What a gratuitous smiley grab......
  7. +1 I take written notes on a pad while caching, then log online as soon as we are home, might have to wait until after kids are fed/washed though....
  8. Viruses' ability to mutate and cross species is overstated in the lay media, it can happen, in a few viruses, but for the most part, most viruses are fairly species specific. Nothing 'SciFi' about microbiology - just 'Sci'...... (and it is spelt Pseudomonas)
  9. Ours have usually been published within 3 days, one went in under 24hr..... took longer if we had got something wrong, like one I did that I had entered exactly one degree off in latitude.....
  10. I know where I'm looking next time!
  11. Given there is lots of nice swag in the cache, for designated people, I'd probably run it as a private cache for your cubs, then list it on the site afterwards - otherwise the kids might end up with McDonalds toys to take home....
  12. I would say no it isn't rude. It's never rude to post NM, or then post a NA if there is no resolution. The CO gets plenty of notice to sort out problems, or at least indicate they are planning on sorting it out before a reviewer will archive a cache. If the NM is unanswered after a month, I post a NA.
  13. Don't take this the wrong way - have you bitten off more than you can chew at present?? With half a dozen finds, are you ready/prepared to hide this many in one go? I would suggest maybe hiding one cache, get it right, learn the methods involved (measuring distances/proximity etc), then go from there.... And maybe gather experience by finding a lot more caches in the process.... To be honest I can't remember seeing a great hide from someone with only a handful of finds (I'm sure they do exist though), it usually seems to be a mess of bad coordinates and inappropriate containers/locations..... Take your time mate....
  14. I've noted some swearing etc in some logs, and thought an easy way to maybe report such would be useful - like in every forum post.... I've used the 'contact us' part of the webage before, but it is pretty convoluted, and now doesn't really have an option for this? I can keep up with the avergae drunken sailor, but would prefer my son not see this sort of stuff just yet....
  15. Good on you - I give people 24hr before I grab a TB, if they logged the find more than a couple of days prior, I just grab it immediately.....
  16. Humbug.... Games have rules..... get over it. I bet you were one of those kids who would never go out willingly after your 3 strikes!
  17. Searching around on the side of a dirt road, in the rain, for a regular sized cache - checking under logs, around bushes, under fences, everywhere - then look up to see a green/camouflage painted letterbox! Right in front of us.....
  18. I found a cache yesterday with my son and a muggle friend. We were only looking for it as it was close to the start of a well maintained walking trail we wanted to do (and cache!). Past reports of the first cache weren't great, wet/soggy etc, it was in a nice spot though, so we searched. We found it, completely saturated, a couple of past NMs ignored it seemed. So we posted a Found It log, with the suggestion the cache be maintained, or removed/archived. I also posted a NA log. Within half an hour the CO posted an Owner Maint log, saying he will replace this and its sister cache, and all will be well..... Obviously the NM attribute is now gone too. Doesn't seem right - seems like a 'I'm planning to do maintenance log' rather than real maintenance. Annoyed me..... I think the caches should be disabled, a write note posted, then re-enabled once maint done.... maybe its just me?
  19. I mean, this is geocaching - turning up without a decent collection of pens, after you have made find 20, is a definite rookie mistake, like showing up to play baseball without your glove....
  20. Grab your spare..... After forgetting a pen once, we carry several, I always have one in my shirt (yes, I'm a geek), and there would normally be 3 or 4 in the backpack....
  21. I think the difference lays between 1. helping out a CO with bits and pieces, new ziplock bags, maybe a temporary logsheet; and 2. propping up a cache whose CO has long stopped caring, hasn't found a cache for 3 years, and has no intention of checking or maintaining any of their caches. IMO, #1 is fine, #2 should attract NM/NA logs only..... Throwdowns are different, and are bad in any circumstance.
  22. +1 Like I say to my wife when any comments about caching expenses come up - "I could decide to do yachting on weekends...." - only silence follows.....
  23. If a level 2 difficulty hide has 7+ DNFs, and those by cachers with a variety of experience, you better believe I'd post a NM. Two or three? Ok, it might still be there. More than 5, by cachers at different times? At least a NM is warranted then, IMHO. But you may cache your way, and I'll cache mine. Just don't bash me as a "cache cop" in public. I'm with TriciaG - if a cache gets a few DNFs, and it isn't a D5, a good/active CO will check it out and post a note. I've posted NMs/NAs without visits, generally only when it is clear that the cache is missing/wrecked and the CO is inactive - that way the process can be commenced to have the cache archived. Occasionally the NM/NA gets a CO moving to actually do something, even if it is only to archive a crap cache.
