  1. I hear ya. Sometimes I just want to say, "shut up and sing". Anyway, some people don't have a clue as to proper time and place. It's called discretion: knowing when and where. But since this is a free country we're allowed a lot of leeway. You mention etiquette. Somepeople can't leave rhetoric out of their lives long enough to have fun.
  2. You mention a dog park. That's a great idea and lends itself to a theme. I've been thinking about hiding a GC near a dog park that I frequent. I'm always looking for dog parks. Where's your's? Mine is here: N34°08.036' W118°42.158'
  3. Those are the coolest things I've ever seen!
  4. To follow up: The repair process with Magellan was a nightmare. I've returned it and now have the Garmin 60CSx. What a difference. In the first place it's half the size and weight which means it can actually fit in a pocket. The learning curve is so much easier. I'll admit right now that I'm a newbie. It took me several days to begin figuring out the XL. The second day I had the 60CSx I was hunting and finding a geo cache. Instead of frustration I'm having fun. Tech support for the Csx is in Kansas and they don't make you to spend the first 5 minutes of the call verifying your identity. I learned a lesson the hard way on this one. Please accept my apologies if my negativity towards Magellan offends any of you. The ending to this story is a happy one. Garmin rules. Magellan sucks.
  5. Hey, I'm new as well and thought it would be good to be as paperless as possible. My suggestion does involve a PDA. I can't live without mine. It's a Palm Treo 650 which is a cell phone and a Palm Pilot in one. Anyway, instead of downloading another program on the PDA I just use what it automatically came with it. I copy and paste the cache info into a Memo on the PDA and booya, there it is! Yes, I do have to do a hot synch but the Memo can be as long or short as I want which means I can paste and also delete as many cache info pages as I want. Have fun! TopangaHiker
  6. My sig item so far is a guitar pick. I like them because to the right person it could be useful, they're inexpensive and they don't take up much room. I'm new to the game. I've only gone on two hunts so far but I'm batting .1000
  7. Hi, TopangaHiker, here. I'm kind of new. I just got my first GPS: a Garmin 60CSx. I really like it and after only on day have found my first GC. Anyway, being a Realtor I came upon this idea: A program that could convert assessors parcel numbers (APN) into map coordinates and visa versa. I can't tell you how many times I've had the following conversation. Owner of some vacant land: I own some land and want to know what it's worth. TopangaHiker: Great! What's the address? OOSVL: Uh, I don't know. TH: Hmmm...well, can you tell me where it is? OOSVL: Well, I don't really know. TH: Do you have a survey? OOSVL: No. TH: Do you have an APN? OOSVL: Oh, sure, it's ... Anyway, 9 times out of ten it's landlocked or impossible to find. Seeing it on a county assessors map is one thing. Finding it is arduous. I plan on creating my first GC very soon. Thanks, TopangaHiker
  8. I'll admit that I'm a newbie but I purchased the XL along with 2 software programs and the car charger. I had it 6 days and then it crashed beyond the point of a reset so that it had to be sent back for repairs. Question: would I have been better off with the Garmin CSx?
