  1. Let alone all the topics out there now on bear attacks and personal safety and such, the average run-of-the-mill cacher might get a bit squeamish about leaving the house. Then one must consider risks of contacting SARS, West Nile Virus, and the ever present LYME Disease. Now, my friends, we face yet another attack on our health! MONKEY POX!!! May I suggest staying away from prairie dogs in the future. OH! THE HORROR!! OG Prophetically Challenged
  2. I think that's a neat idea, very inventive of the folks that decided to leave your bug there. I got a chuckle out of it. I understand your being upset, it being a "racing" bug and all, But that the way it goes sometimes. Good luck and happy caching! OG Prophetically Challenged
  3. I just saw the funniest Avatar. It's RainDog....second on the post. I think it deserves Honarable mention. I sure got a good chuckle! OG Prophetically Challenged
  4. A new premium member is now brething happily and thankfully! WTG Jeremy! You da man! Prophetically Challenged
  5. Here we go again........ I understand your gripe, but then again I don't understand not supporting the madness? OG Prophetically Challenged
  6. Ok guys maybe you can clear up an arguement around the house here. Today while on a cache alone I found a small ski pole. Now I would call it a "treking pole" but because it is emblazoned with the Scott logo, it must be a childs ski pole. Anyway, I noted it and went on, thinking that if it were still there when I returned it was mine. It was, so I packed it out thinking that my daughter could use it as a hiking stick. Now comes the battle....My hubby thinks that it's unsafe as a hiking stick because it has a metal tip. He says that it will be unsafe to use it for stability. I say relax, it's just a pole and won't cause an accident, it's just a stick! Maybe I should have started another useless thread, (I hope I'm not woefully off-topic) Or maybe this isn't worth commenting on? You decide. OG Prophetically Challenged
  7. Another very good question, timpula. I was wondering that too. We have here in Washington a site that gives trail conditions, ie: snow covering and accessibility. I've wondered if there were a site to report "sitings" such as Bear , coyote or cougar. I'm sure that it would be a state run site if there were such a thing? Anyone know? OG Prophetically Challenged
  8. Thank you Septic for bringing us back on subject. I know a lot of guys here enjoyed turning this into a "Gun-Talk" forum. I could care less if a Gloc or a 9mm is the best weapon against a grizzly. I would never feel comfortable carrying a gun on a geoching outing. Just say the word outloud.....Geocaching.....it's fun, the word actually makes you smile! Now before everyone gets all wadded up, I DO believe in our right to bear arms, more power to you! And as for for bear spray accedentally going off, I'd rather have that happen than have a 9mm accedentally going off. BTW sept1c, (totally off-topic) I graduated from PHS! How's the town holding up? 9. I use a Sport Trak Pro, also. I have never used a Garman so I can't compare. My unit seems to have everything I could want. I've learned to slow down when I get to the cache site and check my reception, ( I'm sure everyone does this whatever unit they have.) The most valuable advice I can give you is whatever unit you chose be sure to buy the protective case. Magellan's run about $15.00. I dropped mine once and broke the glass face and had to send it off for repairs to the tune of $72.00, and a full week without its assistance. Good luck and welcome, OG Prophetically Challenged
  10. Thanks for asking this question. I've been wondering myself. I was FTF this morning but I nock that up to pure luck, and that the fact that the cache was in a "week-end" type area if you know what I mean. It felt good as it was my first FTF. I snagged my first signature coin. Now I feel smug. OG Prophetically Challenged
  11. Just for the record......I DID go out alone this morning. I took my dog and my bear spray. I didn't need either one. It was a beautiful hike with a falls at the end of the trail, AND I was FTF!! I'm glad I ignored my fear and common sense, I plan on going out alone more often! OG Prophetically Challenged
  12. This is the BEAR SPRAY that I carry. OG Prophetically Challenged
  13. Now you guys have made me even more scared. I cache alone occasionally and I am a woman, (hear me roar?) When I do go alone I always take a dog and I have a can of bear spray handy in my pack. I've never seen anything out of the ordinary while out, but if I go alone I try to stay away from caches in town parks. I figure that wierdos tend to stay near populated areas. I was planning on trying to be FTF on a cache thats on a trail not close to any well populated areas. But after reading this, I might not go. I don't want to be a statistic, but then I don't want to be affraid of everything. It IS a hard decision for us gals. OG Prophetically Challenged
  14. I think you made some very good observations. I happen to live in a "cache-plenty" state. But I've found all the ones that are in my small town. I'm in no hurry to rush out every morning to the nearby towns to snag easy ones just to run my numbers up. There are no doubt cachers that will look down on those who have fewer than a ba-zillion finds, but that's not my problem. I'm having fun! Cheers to you! OG Prophetically Challenged
  15. Thanks Guys! Prophetically Challenged
  16. First of all, thanks to all of you that helped me to get my iPAQ up and running yesterday. Now I need help again. How do I get the cache pages sync-ed and in the mobile? I ran a pocket query and have the pages I want in easyGPS LOC format. What do I do now? OG Prophetically Challenged
  17. Well I finally broke down and called Compaq's tech help. It turns out the problem was the driver for the USB port. I checked that this morning and everything was fine! Oh well, it's working now! Thank you all for your advice. OG Prophetically Challenged
  18. How do I do a "hard restart"? Prophetically Challenged
  19. I do have an open com port and have tried doing it that way, too. I'll try a total uninstall again, then I'll plug it into the com port, (I was wondering if the hub was capable of running it.) Thanks Prophetically Challenged
  20. I'm plugging it into a USB hub that I'm sure works, (my digital camera works fine from this 6-port hub) When I run ActiveSync I click on "get connected", it searches for a sec then says NOT CONNECTED. I'm using the docking station and I don't think my pc is accknowedging its existance. I'll try your suggestion. Don't you just hate it when something that should be simple turns out to drive you bananas! Thx, OG Prophetically Challenged
  21. Ok, I uninstalled outlook. It still won't communicate with the PC. It searches for a connection but can't find it. Could it be some setting in the mobile itself? I'm getting pretty frustrated with it! Thanks, OG Prophetically Challenged
  22. We're going on a trip next week and I snagged my hubby's ipaq to try and save from printing and sifting through all the cache print-outs. The problem is ....I can't get it to communicate to my PC. The install software tells me to install Outlook 2002 first, then Microsoft ActiveSync, then the "install set-up". I've done all this but it won't recognize the mobile!. I've tried to do the troubleshooting to no avail. Can anyone out there help me Thx, OG Prophetically Challenged
  23. I concur with curley......do the Buxley search! It's a great site! OG Prophetically Challenged
  24. I'm not one of your long lost friends but welcome back anywho. Congrats on your recent activities, they look like a lot of fun! New to the neighborhood, OG Prophetically Challenged
  25. Very well put, EraSeek, while hunting for this one the first time, we ran into NO TRESPASSING signs. We obeyed them but afterward I spoke to a local that told me that the new NO Trespass signs were posted because someone had been riding their horse aimlessly through the forest and had got tangled up in some old barbwire, causing injuries to the horse. Of course the guy sued the property owner for not keeping up the old fence, prompting the owner to post the signs. After being reassured that the property owners really didn't want to keep their treasure to themselves, I walked by the signs to a real beauty of a cache! OG Prophetically Challenged
