  1. The furthest I've driven (oneway) and gotten a DNF: 470 miles; from my home in northern California to outside of Portland, Oregon.
  2. Funny, my wife keeps telling me the same thing BTW, I'll be 26 on Thursday... and rumor has it I'll be unwrapping a new GPSr
  3. I'm another map lover. I drive my wife nuts with my maps. I guess she seems to think a 5 drawer file cabinet stuffed full of maps is a bit much... Or maybe it's the fact that I'm always bringing home even more maps. And when I'm not bringing them home my dad is dropping them off for me. In fact, last week he dropped off 60-some USGS topo maps (dating from 1954 to 1988) that were my grandfathers. I'll spend hours looking over maps, looking at where I've been, where I want to go.... Before I know it another day off has passed with me going nowhere because I've spent the whole time reading the map and not moving.
  4. Looks like I'll be reading more than just the funnies and Dave Berry this weekend.
  5. One day back in 2001 I was reading our local paper and came across this story about this cache. It peaked my interest and I checked out the website a few times. It wasn't until early 2003 that I gained access to a GPS (my mom and dad bought a used one) and singed up for an account. My wife and I used their GPS off and on for our first year. At Christmas my mom gave my dad a new GPS and he gave us the one we'd been using.
  6. A month?!?!?! We got 2 1/4 inches in 24 hours from that storm! We had well over 3" from that last one... and most of that fell between 5-8pm. Flash flood warnings were in effect all night.
  7. You might be better off posting this here
  8. I never really begged my parents. I just kept asking to borrow theirs until they decided to give it to me and buy a new one for themselves. Then, a few months later my brother gave us his GPS so my wife could have one while we cache (he never quite got into caching).
  9. Fantastic, just love this, thanks for the laugh I have to keep increasing the tank of gas price to reflect the times. $30? Try $48 the last time I filled up. I love having the 20 gal. tank in our jeep except when it comes time to fill up
  10. We've gotten 4 in one day and a grand total of 10 out of 185 total finds. The toughest FTF was this one. It took a few weeks of checking out maps to find a route in that didn't have a locked gate.
  11. Rocks are like chickens: Both are found on farms. Both can be shades of orange yellow and brown. Neither fly very well. Neither listen to NPR.
  12. I also liked it decause it was friendly and beauce it is one of the best analogy I've seen used.
  13. Those benefits are not related to getting more or higher-quality radio programming. Usually they are discounts for concert tickets, etc. Nor does GC.com offer higher-quality caches if your a premium member. A benefit is a benefit in my book, regardless of quality.
  14. I've found a few small caches, but none as small as this one that I placed. I'm not going to post the size here (too many of the locals read my post), but NR_Teacher's September 8th log says it all
  15. Here's an example of two cachers meeting out in the field. Note the cache name.
  16. We've done the hand on chin a few times. And the flashing of the gps. And we've even done the dance on a camping trip with some other cachers... of course that was after we'd already met and the beer had been flowing for a while.
  17. Most of my FTFs are pure luck, others have taken a lot of planning. Perhaps these logs will offer a little insight into my FTF mentality... how indepth I go into planning, or not planning... "mem" "In the Middle of Nowhere Somewhere in the Rocks" "Fishermudi" Who knows, maybe someday the FTF bug will bite you too. Never say never.
  18. A good rule of thumb: One waypoint (GC#), one smile. A new waypoint (new GC#), a new smile. Brian said just about the same thing here: Not sure what you mean by character. If it's simply a new theme and contents that does not constitute a new cache. If you change it from a traditionl to a multi, then that does change the character. In that case it would warrant a new page, rather than just allowing people to re-log.
  19. Be careful with this type of container, you don't want it to be mistaken for a pipe bomb. If you do use it for a cache, I'd recommend a more rural location and large, bold labeling that it's a geocache.
