  2. Hi Dan, If you look on the cache page there is a picture of where the cache is, and the hint says it's in a tree stump, well I found that tree stump in the picture, and I can assure you the cache is not in there. WoodSmoke GeocacheUK - very useful resources for the UK Geocaching community

  11. Bad news I'm afraid :-( quote:Pocket PC 2003 Freezing----------------------- Something Mike and myself have experienced a lot of is freezing of the iPAQ 2210 running Windows Mobile 2003. Xscale.de have posted a note (translated via Google) which suggests there are known issues with Pocket PC 2003 hanging, and there is a small fix available. Now I wouldn't recommend using this fix until this has been cleared by Microsoft or HP, but it sounds as though they may be onto something. The translated text is below... "Since few days is well-known the first "serious error" of the Windows mobile 2003 of operating system. The nose ensures for the fact that an internal database is extended after each soft RESET by 3 entries. These are always identical and do not only eat storage capacity, the system can after approximately 30 RESETS also up to 1-2 minutes hang or even completely freeze. Starting from 50 RESETS the establishment of contact becomes difficult ActiveSync to impossible. Sounds like I don't want to upgrade my iPaq for a while yet. 13. quote:Originally posted by TheCat:But the biggest thanks must go to Dave and Debbie The Bramblers. They have been working all hours from the inception of this event to make sure it went well. Even through the problems in the begining they carried on. Thanks guys you did great. I am sure that all that has been learned in this will aid us in the future as more public events are organised. Oh and one last thing We forgot to mention Kev he is a seasonal HCC Ranger who worked like a trooper on the set up days. Thanks Kev. 15. Hi All, It's 10:25 on Saturday and I am on station 1 of the public caching event. At 10:00 there was a mad rush of Geomuggles who are now off caching :-) More are still cominbg in and will keep us busy here all day I think. 17. Here is the latest info I can find on the upgrade. Text taken fro a forum here quote:Cornz has been doing a bit of digging around and mailed me this link to HP. It would appear that HP have now released the upgrade form for UK users of 39xx and 54xx iPAQ's who want to upgrade. The upgrade cost is $26 and will be dealt with Modus Media via Microsoft Fulfilment in Glasgow. ----------------- Looking at the form it is only the "FREE" upgrade. If you bought your PDA before May 23 this doesnt apply. $26.00 is quite a charge for a free upgrade. ----------------- According to the microsoft site this charge is just to cover shipping and handling. The HP site says that the upgrade for those purchasing their ipaq prior to May is 49 euro plus vat, handling and shipping, but it does not look as though it is available until september. ----------------- WoodSmoke GeocacheUK - very useful resources for the UK Geocaching community
  18. I have an idea........ ......I think we should start a new type of cache....... .......The Wandering Cache....... .....it could be great fun trying to find it. Each finder hides it somewhere different and logs the change on the web site :-) WoodSmoke GeocacheUK - very useful resources for the UK Geocaching community
  19. Hi Teasel, I have one pocket query emailed to me in .gpx format everyday which I then save to my PDA so I always have the latest. As you also know, I download four files auto from G:UK every night at 01:00. I would prefer to auto download the .gpx files as these would then be put straight into the directory rather than me having to save the email attachment. What is more important to me is the update times of the db on G:UK (we have discussed this before), but I understand the restriction that g.com have put on you. 24. We are at this precise moment on a campsite in the South of France (laptops and mobiles with GPRS are just wonderful). We also booked our holiday before taking up geocaching so no plans, but we are doing some caches. We have even placed a micro cache while we are here :-) For us I think it will always be, where first, caches second. WoodSmoke GeocacheUK - very useful resources for the UK Geocaching community
  25. Hi Erik, Thanx for the detailed reply :-) Btw, I wasnt't questioning your approval, just trying to understand this 'holiday cache' idea. I understand the reasons and advice that you give, but what about somewhere like Ibiza (don't go there myself) where there are no caches? It would be nice if 'normal' (not micro or virtual) caches could be placed in cache bare areas. What about the idea of putting in the description asking any finders to also do a quick maintenance job on it? This way we can start the seed in an otherwise bare country or area?
