I leave my MeriColor set on auto detail almost all the time. When frequent turns are made it automatically shifts into the MAX or Custom trackpoint type of mode; in a straight line it spreads out the points . I wouldn't be without a staff in even moderately rough terrain, let alone rocky, steep, or wet. I have both a wooden staff, as well as adjustable Leki poles. I really like the ability to come straight off the trail and clip into the powered suction mount for road use. I have an F-350 and haven't had a "fall-off" incident yet. I wondered why the software was SO difficult to find all of a sudden, and offering a rebate, too. I had an on-line store (who had the software in stock) tell me to wait about a month, at which time I could get the anticipated updated version. My first GPS (Meridian COlor) is arriving tomorrow. Any basic do or don'ts that aren't covered in the instructions? I won't be doing any SD type downloads for at least a week, or until I'm totally familiar with the basic operation of the unit. John C. Haley
