Was it adjusted or corrected? I think it makes a difference. If, for example, you found a cache when it was rated 4.5, and then a change in conditions caused it be changed to a 3.0, then for your grid you should be able to claim it as 4.5. Just use a screenshot or whatever. But if was corrected, i.e. it was mis-rated 4.5 to begin with, then you actually found a 3.0 difficulty cache, and depending how honest you want to play the game, you should only count finding a 3.0 towards your grid. It doesn't matter if you drove 100 miles because you thought it would be a 4.5, if you actually found a 3.0, that's what you found. The goal in filling the grid is to find the 81 different difficluty/terrain combinations, not just 81 caches that have convienently covered the 81 different combinations, regardless of their actual difficulty. If all you want to do is fill the grid, I'm sure you can find some caches that are graded improperly that make it easier than it should be, especially in certain parts of the country.

Maybe I put this in the wrong forum? Or maybe there are no good apps for an Android tablet that work with cached offline maps? I guess I should find out before I buy one.

But that's not cheating, you found it by happenstance. I'd say "good for you" for that. I'm sure some CO would see a difference between luck and someone who's intentionally cheating.

If you had not wasted so much time with unnecessary letters, you could have invaded Sweden, Mongolia, Monaco, and the other 19 countries. I do have to admit that it's a good idea calling it "lift" rather than "elevator". This is a great history/geography lesson. I was not aware that there are only 23 countries total. Now I'm not nearly as impressed when somebody knows all of the capitals and leaders and Prime Ministers and things. I'm going to become one of those people. It's actually 24 -- we forgot Lower Slobovia.

No, they only count major league home runs... just like Geocaching.com only counts caches found that are logged on their website. If Joe Sixpack hits a home run in the beer league, the MLB won't know. And if I find a pill bottle in my medicine cabinet, Geocaching.com won't know. Your move.

I don't think you should consider ignoring even "bogus" finds. Barry Bonds and Mark McGwire aren't in the Hall of Fame because their home runs were consider bogus, yet they still count in baseball's statistics. Once you start ignoring some stats, the whole thing is virtually invalid. I know there is no right or wrong answer, but I am seeking opinions for what is the best app to use as far as initial navigation from cache-to-cache... I want to get a Android tablet and use an app that will allow me to "cache" the maps and use GPS offline, I will have a MiFi device so I can still pull up cache pages and log finds, etc., when necessary, but I want to limit data usage and not constantly be reloading map data all the time. I'm not so much concerned with after I get out of the car and getting to ground zero, but I mean as a secondary device in the car. I know that not all maps that work of phone-sized devices always work as great on tablets and vice-versa. Just wanted to some opinions as to what any of you that paperless cache with an Android tablet use.

Well, if there is a leaderboard "Most caches found by people who specifically sign up to be counted", you can choose whether or to sign up for it. But if the leaderboard is merely "Most caches found in Vermont", I'd say by logging your finds at Geocaching.com, you have tacitly signed up.

Well yes, you did opt out on that particular displaying of this leaderboard, but (and trying to tie this back into the original topic) that doesn't mean that you don't still have six cats, and when asking who has the most cats in this thread, or who has found the most caches in Vermont, or who owns the most 19th century bottles of wine in Germany, that there isn't still a factual leader, whether or not that leader is showing up on a leaderboard or not, is only a matter of how accurate people want that leaderboard to be. If you allow people to opt out, rather than just them to ignore it, it irrevocably taints the accuracy of the leaderboard. As I said way back in Post #134, does the fact that one cacher who doesn't want anyone knowing that he ranks fourth supercede the fact that the cacher that ranks eighth has the right to not think he is actually seventh because there is someone above him that doesn't want to be counted? We can erase jholly and her six cats from the cat leaderboard, but should we state that frinklabs has the most cats in this thread with five? That's inaccurate, and a leaderboard that let's people opt out is useless. You can look at it, but it is meaningless. jholly still has 6 cats, and flask still has how ever many caches she has in Vermont, whether it is on the leaderboard or not.

Do most folks actually use those things in your area? They are generally useless as any kind of selection criteria around here. Yeah, my suggestion was manily aimed at improving when viewing the map. Sorting with attributes, or GSAKing or other stuff like that isn't going to change the icons on the map. I generally don't even bother with the attributes, because who knows if they were applied properly or not. But, yes for sorting with a PQ, that could help too.

But even if you could opt out, you would still have 0 cats, just by not listing it all we would be doing would be making the leaderboard inaccurate. Let's say for instance there was a leaderboard that was "Most caches found in Vermont" and another leaderboard "Most caches found in Vermont among those who have not chosen to opt out" -- both leaderboards could very well exist. If I lived in Vermont and wanted to know where I stood in Vermont, I'd want to know where I stood on the first leaderboard. The second one would be rather arbitrary and meaningless. I wouldn't care to know where I stood only among those who haven't chosen to opt out, I'd want to know where I stood among everyone in the state. I'm mean, we're all in the top 5%. 95% of the people don't even geocache.

Right, but she said since they won't let her opt out, she was going to bascially make heads roll and make it miserable for everyone else. Ergo, if we don't let her opt of of this cat leaderboard, she'll have to go out and get seven cats to take the lead. Oh, this leaderboard is specifically only addressing cats accounted for in this thread. If I have to go research cats that have been addressed in other threads, well, that's a Pandora's Box I don't want to open. In fact, if it is any easier to think of (and implement) it this way, think of mystery/unknown as still being just one cache type, but with three different icons to choose from in the submission process: mystery (puzzle) - only puzzles mystery (challenge) - only challenges mystery (unknown) - catch-all for anything else
