  1. They're not. Short of a little of Jeremy's bandwidth, they haven't taken anything away from anybody. Of course, they haven't added anything to anyone, either. They're playing with themselves, if you'll excuse the expression. I see nothing wrong with somebody playing with themselves. I would find it crude if they logged their experience online . I'll leave it to someone else to post a link to a website that allows you to do just that.
  2. I've gone caching with ShowStop where, after the rest of us have put our stickers in the the log, we have to wait for him to sign his name with a pen. Then we have to wait while he makes sure the lid is on securely and he puts the cache back exactly the way we found it
  3. That's it. No Raspberry or Butter Pecan for you. From now on, you can only have vanilla.
  4. GEOTRANS - http://earth-info.nga.mil/GandG/geotrans/ The best example of my tax dollars being well spent
  5. I have a couple of FTFs that I got the way your little brother got at least a few of his --> solve a puzzle that nobody else can solve.
  6. The only ones who can see the page and therefore download the gpx/loc file for unapproved caches are the volunteer approvers and the cache owner. I could see these people wanting to be able to use the gpx/loc file for a number of legitimate reasons.
  7. I've seen puzzle caches where this was part of the puzzle That's what you think Good idea for a puzzle This has been part of some puzzles I agree, all caches should use the icon Puzzle Puzzle With minor differences, puzzle Yeah. I don't care if this is the first cache someone hid
  8. Sure. It starts off this way but soon people are trading down, logging multiple finds at events, hiding impossible to find micros, posting SBA logs that upset people, etc. etc. Ban it before this happens
  9. I've never heard anyone call you smarmy. Snarky, yes. Other words that the forums tend to translate to totally different words, yes. (Note the use of the smilie-shield.) I called Jeremy snarky and he corrected me. I apologize.
  10. It is a cultural thing? Maybe something about the British make them worry that they might upset somebody by posting a SBA log. Seems if I had forgotten to archive my event I would be happy to see a note to remind me. If I had a good reason to not archive I would leave a note for the reviewer why. I think the problem is with SBA logs on traditional caches where the cache just needs maintenance and not archiving or where someone may think you are the cache police (e.g. This cache is on Indian Reservation and the last person who look was stopped and asked if he had a permit to be on the reservation so it must have been placed without permission). I can't see any issues with using SBA on an event cache.
  11. Well I had to re-read the original thread to see if Jeremy was in fact rude. I'll summarize here; odragon proposes that event caches be automatically archived. Haggis Hunter agrees and suggest that after about 1 month events be automatically archived. welch responds "Why not just start posting some Needs Archived logs?" Haggis Hunter says "You're quite right we could, but last time I checked I wasn't the cache police, posting needs archiving logs may start to upset people. If we have something that is mandatory and happens automatically people will accept that is how it happens." Jeremy responds "Well golly. We don't want to start upsetting people, do we?" First mistake. Jeremy should've said "The current system of posting should be archived is sufficient. There is no need to automate the process. If there is a legitimate reason for a should be archive log you should worry about upsetting people" Haggis Hunter took Jeremy's remark as dismissive of his suggestion and respond that Jeremy thinks its ok to upset people. Jeremy responds by clarifying that he mean that if bothers you that the cache is still active you shouldn't worry about upsetting the owner. Haggis Hunter feels his suggestion has still been dismissed without a good reason. Those of us who follow the geocaching.com forum regularly know that Jeremy will not make any changes to the website without a good reason. But he didn't make that clear to Haggis Hunter. Jeremy then respond "Kissing your butt wasn't part of the service contract. I normally set my tone by how you set your tone, which started off as being combative and sarcastic. I figured if you could dish it you could take it. Sorry if I was mistaken (and here's a few kissy poos for you then)." Well if that isn't rude I don't know what is. I think Jeremy owes Haggis Hunter an apology.
  12. The earth spins on its axis. Where the axis intersects the surface of the earth are the true north and south poles. The magnetic north and south poles wander relative to the true north and south poles due to various reasons. The magnetic poles have no effect on latitude or longitude. The equator is defined by where a plane perpendicular to the axis and halfway between the north and south poles intersects the surface of the earth. WGS84 latitude is define as the angle a line perpendicular to the surface of the earth makes with the equator. Longitude is the angular measurement between a point on the surface of the earth and another point at the same latitude on the prime meridian. The prime meridian is a line on the surface of the earth from the true north pole to the true south pole that passes through a specific point in Greenwich. As the tectonic plates move, the Latitude and Longitude of a point fixed to a plate will change.
  13. Longitude is measured realative to Greenwich, England. Latitude is measured relative to the equator. As the tectonic plates move relative to one another and relative to the equator, Latitude and Longitude of a place fixed to a plate does change. Geocaches on the other hand, drift from their original position as finders rehide them. For most geocaches, this drift will be far bigger than the continental drift. Given the accuracy and precision of GPS you can expect at least 3 meter error in the posted coordinates, so continental drift won't affect hunting for caches. I can however vouch that finder drift has caused geocaches to move a significant distance.
  14. I think they should ban Butter Pecan. Traditionally ice cream is either chocolate or vanilla. Sometimes other flavors are interesting but 90% of them are lame.
  15. Jeremy should know better. Now they will lose their fear of geocachers and whenever they see one will expect a hand-out.
  16. I'm suprised we haven't heard from the 3-eyed cat yet The Amazing Stupid Rules Cache!!
  17. I don't think this is what emmnmnl is asking for. The problem they have is this. emmnmnl wants to submit a PQ that runs right away. Its Tuesday in Australia. Do they check the Tuesday box or the Monday Box. If its still Monday in Seattle and they check Tuesday they may have to wait awhile to get their PQ. If on the other hand it is already Tuesday in Seattle and they check Monday they will have to wait 6 days to get the PQ. I think a better suggestion is to have another box to check that says run today. When you submit the PQ it could set the day of week automatically.
  18. I personally get more satisfaction finding a cleverly hidden cache than an easy find. Caches do have a difficult ranking that will let seekers know if this cache is a particularly devious find. This recent post explains the rating scale a bit more. A hollow bolt or similar container would have a difficulty of at least 3. Easy caches get visited and found more often. That doesn't mean that the geocachers in your area don't want a challenge from time to time.
  19. Make the second one a Mystery/Puzzle cache instead of a Multicache.
  20. God post. I believe this is why I react to the numbers-are-bad comments. RK is God?
  21. Hotmail uses Sender Id Framework and Yahoo! is either using it or something similar in a effort to reduce Spam or at least identify who is sending spam. Could be the reason that they are throttling geocaching.com.
